no, nothing quite as simple as that. I was researching for a history project when a spyware notice came up. next thing I know, my computer warned me about it making a complete copy of my system, then it died.

edit: nevermind, I found the emulator. and I am back in business! Woot!
Every Bit Counts
You can get Snes9x v9 here. There is a v1.51, but most TASes use v1.43 v9 because of issues with desyncing. All smv's should work whit this version unless otherwise stated.

Edit: Woops. Didn't see Cardweavers edit.

Still looking for a goddamn rom that works..
Every Bit Counts
I wish I could post a link to one for you, but thats against the rules. Google is your best friend. Also, you can cange endings. Like if it has and ending of .swc, you can change it to .smc.

yeah, I know the rules. I remember the day when roms were abundant and uhh.. legal, or semi-legal to the point where they weren't removed from my old key resources. effin' nintendo rights and shit. I got a wii, what more do they want? the vc is pretty nice tho  :P

edit: voila! *plays furiously for missed time*
good to see you got it to work dmantra. as a side note, I loved your one room hack.

Cpadolf, what emulator did you make your botwoon smv with? It desyncs right before you become a morphball, then you jump around and fire plasma at him. I assume those jumps/shots are springball/bombs, but I'd love to see it work.

Also, in news of the hack I'm working on (probably the last you'll hear of it until its release):
Because whenever I try to mess with door data or the # of PLMs/enemies, the hack will be more similar to gravy, while still being completely different. A few rooms will seem familiar, at least at first glance, but most if not all of the items in each room will be moved around either within the room or somewhere else. Also, if anyone is willing to help me, I'd love to have my next hack have the ability to somersault from midair, like in redesign. I'm also accepting name suggestions, it has to be oddly tempting like gravy, but not too random. Please PM, don't post the suggestions, that way, there will be a larger variation between ideas.

Another thing, I just realized SMILE will patch ipses. One less thing I have to redownload.

One final statement that doesn't deal with gravy: I get about a month off from college for the holidays, so you can probably expect my next hack to be ready late december or early january.

Ok, on to Gravy things...

Because I got my computer back online much earlier than expected, I may just make a hard(er) version of Gravy. A good deal of Gravy would stay the same, but key rooms, and certain enemies/bosses will be harder, as well as many of the known SBs being denied.
Almost happy
Ok since it desynced for some people I took my time to upload the botwoon TAS to youtube.

One negative thing about it is that I need to take damage several times to save a lot of time and to make 2 round even remotely possible, making it look really sloppy even though it is not very sloppy.

The screwed up graphics in the item bar is because the savefile I loaded was from the original SM where Space/Time beam had been used to do the reset glitch.
very nice. I guess I'll just have to make him harder next time (maybe as the springball's guardian?  laugh new)

In all seriousness, in any future non-gravy hacks, all bosses/mini bosses will be necessary for 100%, and will not be the same as any I've made before, except maybe Kraid. I hear he's a bitch to edit.
Every Bit Counts
He destroyed my hack. :(
Whoa! another delayed raction, but Kriole, did you say something about sparking through lava without losing speed? Is it because you started the spark in the room before? thats the only way I can think of that would work.
if that does indeed work, it'll save a lot of time/pain in the WS.

Speaking of damage and speedbooster (semi-on topic) why is it that when you are suitless in a heated room, sometimes actual speedbooster effect won't work. I'll be traveling at the right speed (full speed), but no echoes and it wont break speed blocks. Also, stutter walk boosting can lead to interesting things. The speedbooster worked for a bit, then my echoes lagged, and were an entire screen behind me (I was going up the Speedbooster tunnel, and the echoes were one hill behind me, thus they were a level below me as well. looked weird, almost like I was being followed) I only say this because I was testing changes for that tunnel for the hard version of Gravy, and this problem pretty much makes that room immune to the changes I want to make.

looking for power bombs. last thing i got was speed booster.
PBs are in:
the exact same place they were in the original, but you have to go up through crateria and then down to red brinstar.

Also:
Most grey doors in Gravy are either enemies killed or bosses killed based, the ones in Red brinstar don't involve bosses.

Good job making it that far already. Did you like mini kraid?  grin new

Hah.. hahah.. haahhhhaaaahaha. Took him out first try. Only had 7 supers and about 35 missles. afterwards i was just charge shooting and pellet shooting. He got me down to 13 health and on my way to death I thought, how many fucking shots does it take? But I did it. I lol'd in my chair.

I actually had 1 hit point left when I was finished with him... =/

SMV update: close to another 30k frames. I seriously advice people who are following this run to keep a savestate close to the end of every update. I keep one on state F10 since I never use it. Using Gravy v1.1, if you don't have it, go back a few pages where I have uploaded it. (Page 10.)

why oh why the shit did i savestate at gauntlet. my last savestate was just before the speed booster so it's not too long a trail back but damn.

Oh nos! Why does this one desync for me? There is no emoticon strong enough for my sadness. Well, I'm off to download every variation of snesx9 available.

Yeah, Dmantra.... maybe you should wait a bit (after WS) before tackling the gauntlet. Actually, anywhere where the way you came in gets blocked is always a potential danger so keep a savestate before and after the door that blocks.

edit: cursed pagebreak.

Yeah this was a mistake I rarely make. I usually have 2-3 savestates always handy in 'comfort zone' areas. I try not to savestate alot.

god I'm such a dumbass. The One of the reasons it desynced was because I was using 1.2, even after Kriole clearly stated:

However, for some reason it still desyncs before you even leave the gunship room. Can you tell me exactly what version of snes9x you used to record this?

Snes9x 1.43 v9 'improvement' I think it said. Check Lance's post on page 10 for the right version :]
It seems you used the same bad checksum rom as I did when patching this. No problems here extra_smug
Though if the other WIPs have worked for Cardweaver (have they?), why not this one....

Nice work, I am glad you did not have to abuse pause screen more than that. There were some places I had to comment, but I cannot remember them right away, I will have to check this one again later.

Commenting will be a waste of time, since I already realize there are some improvements to be made. If I lack life after this run and my SM:I testrun, I might redo this run or start a any% normal SM. I dunno.

Since when was commenting a waste of time? What if I wanted to praise some particular spot or point out some things that might be useful later in other hacks or something like that? You don´t have to be so hard on yourself, it really does not matter if there are spots that can be improved. You are forgetting that I am not a TASer, I cannot spot every little mistake or possible timesaver available, nor do I have interest in pointing them out.

I was talking about commenting in it's negative matter, places where to improve and such, that is, in my opinion, a waste of time since I usually ignore it. You are very welcome to praise, I won't say no to that ;]. And it is true, I do not care that very much for frame-time-savers. Time is just a number, entertainment is something much more 'divine' that that. I choose entertainment over time.

Hmm.. talking about entertainment. Isn't it time someone created a SM superplay? Not aiming for speed and only doing very shiny tricks. I'd very much love to watch that.
I can't watch the WIP 4 with 1.1 I downloaded from page 10, I'm using the same emulator Lance linked to there too. The screen stays black after the beginning and you see the input, just not the game.
You have the wrong rom, this hack will keep the screen black after game selection if you do not have the right kind of rom. It is also quite picky about it, so be patient when trying alternatives. If I remember correctly, your best shot would be (JU) [!]

Do you mean TAS-style or regular play? I have been planning that, but I am not sure about doing it just yet. Maybe there should be some kind of list where we gather all the nice quirks SM has to offer.
