Which is the better Zelda game?
Ocarina Of Time (17)
Majora's Mask (10)
red chamber dream
I don't think a poll was really necessary for this, but which game do you like better?

I'm expecting most people to say OoT, but I believe that MM was just too underrated. I usually think of MM as slightly better, but sometimes I think they're about the same. I'm a huge fan of Zelda, so here goes:

Something about the dark feel of Majora's Mask drew me into it, and the idea of rewinding time and doing things over to me was a lot of fun, not repetitive at all. The cutscenes and character designs just made the whole game feel dreary, which I loved. Transformations into new bodies was an excellent concept, as were the masks. Much more involved sidequests than OoT. Such a great game.

Ocarina Of Time on the other hand, holds more memories for me, and the original gameplay and graphics were amazing at the time (they still are). The weapons system is the best that I've ever seen.  Not much else to say, but the new 3D transition of the series was done so well, it's hard to decide between OoT and MM.

OoT! MM just gives me a wierd feeling, I don't like wierd feelings.
Ok, so I haven't actually finished MM, but I'd have to say I like Ocarina better. One reason is due to the fact that I kinda view MM like the Zelda version of Fusion: It's still a Zelda game, but it really doesn't play like one.

Ocarina was also the first Zelda game I really got into. I had played the NES version before, but only in brief segments. Ocarina was the first one I actually completed, so I have a lot of memories attatched to it.

However, it should be noted that I only got really into the Zelda series about a few years ago, a little before we found out about Wind Waker. I had heard of MM, but I never played it until I got the Collector's Disc of the classic games a earlier this year. So far I've only gotten to the Water Temple, and I'd have to say it just doesn't appeal to me the same way that OoT and WW do.

I'll go back and finish it eventually, just to say that I did.

Majoras mask, without a doubt.  It gave me a weird feeling, i love weird feelings.

Majoras Mask had more atmosphere than every other zelda game combined, and thats why i love it.  I argued this point not too long ago on another board, i could dig that up...
Ocarina of Time, though I don't like any of the third person Zeldas really.

They're all third person. :P </anal>

Anyway, I'll say it again; I suck royally at choosing favorites.

Last time I checked, all of the Zelda games are third-person, but I know you meant 3D.

A "weird feeling"...those are the words I was looking for. That's why I love MM.
When I say thrid person, I always mean rotating cameras and the like. The 2D ones are side-scroller, not third person. Screw you and your normal logic; my 1337 h4x0r 5k1llz pwn all!!!

I usually edge towards MM on this topic, because it's the underdog. But it's a really hard choice for me. MM wins on atmosphere by far, but OoT is easier to replay because it's not so sidequest based. MM's dungeons are on the whole better, but there's only 4 of them compared to OoT's 8 (or 9 if you count Ganon's castle. 10 if you want to get really anal and count Ice Cavern, but only idiots do that. So let's stick with 8). I guess I'll cop out and say I like both equally for different reasons. Yeah.
Ocarina of Time has a more original (as in like the older ones) feel to it IMO. Several dungeons, the hyrule setting. All of it was great.

MM was great as well, but a was very disappointent in the lack of dungeons. Those are mostly what I like about the Zelda games. I liked the mini games and side quests and there were a ton in this game, but the trading sequence was only about 4 items. And they weren't very hard to trade either.

So, OOT for me.

The number of dungeons doesn't bother me. It's the quality that counts. And MM was defintely more creative and original.

Funny how what's now a series staple originated in a game almost everybody forgets.

Zelda 2?

(I haven't actually acquired a copy, so I have an "excuse".)
Hmmm. I haven't played 1 or 2. I should find the ro..

Actually, Link's Awakening. Which also gave us the Owl, the Hookshot, the Occarina, and some other stuff I'm probably not remembering.
That one? I loved that game. It's one of my favorites. I thought the yoshi doll was awesome.
To me no Zelda game is a Zelda game without.... Zelda. And as far as I know, there's no Zelda in WW. So... maybe it's a good game. But it aint no Zelda to me. The same thing goes for, for example, Final Fantasy X-2... to some people it may be a good game (I personally loathe it), but... it aint no FF (no summons, no story and, most important of all, it's a "sequel" - that is a big no-no in FF).
Additionally... Ganondorf is the man I love to hate in Zelda. And... he isn't in WW either. Another reason to vote for OoT for me. To me, Ocarina is just one of the best games ever made. It's up there with Super Metroid, Metal Gear Solid 1, Final Fantasy VI and some others.

Zelda IS in Wind Waker. How far did you play?
found it. here we go.

Why i prefer MM over OOT.  (Mostly about why i love timed games)

I guess i should have stated that better then.
I'll juse majoras mask as an example, as the game has one of the best atmospheres of any game I've ever played, likewise, I was playing through the game all last week, so that its still fresh on the brain. (I get tales today though! w00t!)

The 3 day time limit is made obvious throughout the whole game, earlier during the 3 days, people just ignore the moon hanging in the sky, the music in town is cheerful and happy, people just carry on with their normal lives. However, as time goes on, the town music changes to become a little bit more frantic, and people start worrying about the moon thats about to hit them, Theres an argument in the mayors office about making people evacuate the town, certain people realize that nothing good is going to happen.
Then, on the night of the final day, the town is basicly barren except for a few select people, they're incredibly worried about the moon thats about to fall straight down on the town, the music is incredibly depressing and omninous, and it seems as though all has failed. Of course, the issue is that all *HAS* failed if you haven't beat the game yet, so you have no choice but to repeat time, and hope to get things right next time.

I didn't mind having to "talk to everyone over again" because I rarely do so, you have to choose what your doing those 3 days and stick to it, you can't save everyone. I liked that, kept the atmosphere higher, if you wanted to help someone, you had the chance, but not everyone can be helped. Sure, the fact that you had to go and repeat a boss battle to save the land every single 3 days was a little taxing, but luckily the warp makes it much more manageable, and i really enjoyed all the boss fights with the exception of the damn fish.

The people in majoras mask change what they say depending on what day it is, they have certain actions depending on certain times, and were generally just far more *alive* than they were in any other zelda game. The reason for this is because of the forced time system the game had, it allowed the atmosphere of the game to keep getting thicker and thicker as the crisis was about to befall the town. Windwaker failed to have that atmosphere, so did OOT, because nothing seemed that rushed, that important, sure, ganon may rule the world. but you can happily go and wait another few years before you have to fix it. In Majoras Mask, if you sat around and don't get things done, the world is doomed. How do you know its doomed? You can see the signs all around you, the music, the people, the gigantic moon staring down at you that stretches all the way across the horizon. It slowly gets closer, closer.... and then if you don't reset everything, you see it hit the town, and wipe out everyone.

Even in Pikmin, the 30 day limit (far more than enough in my mind, i tend to beat the game before day 20) was just a slight sense of urgency, however, the 15 minute daily limit forced you to worry about what you can possibly do with your pikmin and get done before the time is gone. When its approaching night-time, right before the 10 second counter shows up, you start getting worried about getting all of your pikmin back to the ship in time. Part of the reason your so worried about the little guys is because of the cuteness miyamoto shoved into them, and you don't want to lose a single one. If there was no time limit, you wouldn't have to do the mad dash back to the onions at the end of every day, and your emotional attachment to the little devils wouldn't be nearly as strong.

Having control over every single element of a game tends to remove some of the atmosphere, In Most RPG's, despite everything you do, you still end up failing the mission before you accomplish it, however, the sense of urgency and demise just isn't there because you know that, regardless of the meteor thats about to hit the planet, or the fact that theres some sort of god on the loose that wants to destroy everything... you have as long as you want to go and catch butterflies to try and get that final weapon. Stuff like that, while keeping the gameplay better, does completely destroy the *omg were all gonna die* atmosphere, hell, most people in the game won't even notice that theres some gigantic being right outside their hometown, and just carry on like nothing has happened.
It's difficult to choose but I'm leaning more towards OoT.
Majora was really cool because it was so different, and there was so much to do it made your head spin. But it only had four dungeons. Only four?! Ocarina I like a bit more because it has a more classic feel. MM was really, really strange at times. :)
I loved transforming into a Deku Shrub, Goron, Zora, and the Fierce Deity! :)

So, therefore, I liked Majora's Mask the most!! :D  :D

OoT just seemed so much more epic to me... Finishing all MM's sidequests seemed more like a chore. While I did enjoy the masks and transforming, I also liked the young Link/old Link thing.
I just did not get the same feeling from MM as I did from OoT, I wasn't disappointed as such, but it was not what I expected.
