THIS PATCH IS NOW OBSOLETE.  A NEWER FIX YET HAS BEEN MADE AND SHOULD BE IN EP'S HACK LIST ON HIS SITE.

I finally decided to fix this thing once and for all because it's annoyed me how much trouble it gives everyone, myself included.  So here is a public bug-free version of SFI for anyone interested.  It has been thoroughly playtested, even going so far as to get 100% in 44 minutes just to see that no bugs pop up with 100% runs and speed runs.

Fixes include:
-Removing the enemies from the blue Kraid room that used to crash
-Changing the doors so that you bypass the Giant Metroid room.  Something causes the game to crash when going through the door on the left.  I think the reason was explained in another thread but I don't remember it.

As a general warning, DO NOT LOAD A SAVE FILE FROM YOUR SHIP.  If you do, you will be unable to continue your file.  This is an error from the first version of the patch and I didn't take the time to look into it because it's not a gamekiller if you choose to avoid the circumstances that cause it.  That and I have no clue why it does that...  Note that other save rooms should still save and load fine.

There you all go.  Enjoy SFI now without the random glitches.  Any additional bugs you find, I'll try to look into them but I didn't see anything in my playthroughs.
Thread title:
Just wanted to say thank you for doing this.  I've always enjoyed SFI and thought it an underrated hack.  It will be nice not having to remove the enemies from Kraid's room by hand via SMILE, and it's always, for me at least, been random whether I can get through the Metroid room.  Sometimes I've been able to, sometimes I haven't.

It's a great hack if you want a quick, not too difficult SM fix, but don't want to play Vanilla SM for the 10,000th time.

Ooo, were you able to fix the Norfair save stations, too?
There was a problem with the Norfair Save Stations as well?  I didn't know that.  I've never had a reason to save and load from those stations in the past and my playthroughs were single segment runs just for testing if you could go through all rooms without trouble.  I don't think anything that I did to fix this affected the save/load processes so probably not.

Where do I go after the noob tube is broken?
The PB tube, right?  Just keep pressing further into Maridia.  You'll find Draygon and Botwoon eventually.
I think I need HJ boots, unless I need to single wall UWWJ
Oh, you don't have Gravity?  Then you'll need to find it first.  Even if you OWUWWJ over the wall you need Speed Booster to continue.

You're going to have to find Gravity to continue.
Hint:
It's in a room where you got another upgrade.

By the way, did you find Ice Beam yet?
The same kind of hint I gave for Gravity applies to Ice Beam.  If you don't find it right away, don't forget to find it before Tourian of course. :P  I didn't have to remove the normal Metroids. :P

Pretty fun hack, except the bosses were sometimes too esay because of too much equipment. Or maybe I've just played too many hard hacks. :|
Meri Kurisumasu! ^_^
So, right, here is my problem. I never found Gravity suit, you are welcome to spoil. I am at the moment at Ridley, suitless, with GT already dead, took a damn while with only 4 energy tanks and no suits.

Help appreciated.

Well, since I'm kinda stuck in the room with Ridley, I take I have to kill him before I get to Gravity. Let's hope his reward is an energy tank or I'm ruined.

Don't worry, there IS a E-Tank in the room behind Ridley. As for the Gravity suit:
It's in the Wrecked Ship, in the long vertical shaft, it's on the right door in the middle of said shaft if I remember correctly. You had to beat Phantoon to activate the robot in that room.

Hope it helps^^.

88%

The long time is due to the fact that I beat everything else in the game, bosses and such, without ever getting the varia suit/beating kraid (thank goodness for Etanks aplenty). Then I had to back-track and x-ray scope til I found the way to kraid. All 12% that I missed were missle tanks.

Very enjoyable, don't know why I never tried this hack before.

Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
Well it took me all of 1 minute to get stuck. This is my first time playing SFI btw. Looking forward to it. Just felt the need to point this out.

Does anyone know if all 100% is available?  I'm up to 90%, and I've bombed, jumped and x-rayed just about everywhere.  I'm missing 5 missile expansions, 2 super missile expansions and 3 e-tanks assuming the item counts are all the same.

This is a fun hack.  I played it a long time ago but had mostly forgotten it.  It is a tad on the easy side, though, and I don't even like overly hard hacks.

Well good point.  :-D

I'm assuming 100% means 230, 50 and 50 and the counts aren't adjusted.  Some items are obviously VERY well hidden.

Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
Very fun hack. I find the gameplay much faster than most other hacks I've played as I'm not stuck nearly as often stratching my head. I'm finding so many items it's hard to beleive I've missed any so far, but we'll see in the end.
Every Bit Counts
I just entered Norfair (with Varia) from WS, and can't find out where to go. right takes me bakc to WS, left -> down takes me to a dead end, left -> up -> right takes me to a door, and left -> up -> left takes me to a room where I can't go up. help?

95%

missed 2 reserves and several missle expansions.
Actually, the final item count is 220 Missiles, 55 Supers and 55 Power Bombs.  For whatever reason, they changed it.  Actually to be quite honest, I only got 99% on my final run, missing one SM Tank, leaving me with 50 SMs, however in a previous run I'd gotten all 55 SMs, so I know 100% is possible, I just couldn't remember which one I'd missed.

For anyone wanting to get 100% and doesn't mind a bit of cheating, take a look inside the folders I included in the zip.  They are from the original patch and have maps detailing the locations of all the items and bosses.  I used them to help myself when testing for 100%.  Sometimes you'll look at a room on the map and be like, "There was a missile there and I didn't realize it?"

Fano:  I'm not sure exactly where you are in Norfair.  Could you take a screen for me of the left -> up -> left room you can't go up in?

Kriole:
Gravity Suit is hidden in the room where Grapple was.

DMantra:  About the picture, never noticed that.  By now I know that there's nothing there so I didn't bother to test it.  I had no reason to go around changing room layouts, so I never looked for possible tile errors.
Every Bit Counts
first 2 are left -> up -> left. third is left -> up -> right. fourth is left -> down.

You're going to facepalm hugely.  You can walk through the wall on the right in the second shot and continue upwards. laugh new
