This might be already discovered or completely useless, but you can charge a spark in the room before Imago Cocoon and run through the save room, charge in the next room (there is something with the floor around the 4th or 5th block after the door that stops your speed boost), and quickly jump up to the exit of the Ridley before Kraid shaft, launch a missile, and climb in and ballspark (I don't think there's enough time to do a normal shinespark) all the way up the shaft. The ball launcher's probably quicker, but this might be useful for 100%.

I have a VMU recorded on the european version of the game.

...I do this all the time in my Ridley escapes for Kraid first any%. The thing that stops you is the ceiling, I believe. You can't be speed boosting when you hit it. The way I do it is:

Shoot up into that hallway with all the vine things, run just a little bit down the slope on the left, just so you barely not get hit by the upside down hopping thing, run right and shoot your way through the save room, charge just before you hit that back wall (right when the speed boost kicks in), wall jump at least twice and shoot the missile block out, climg in, unmorph, spin jump left into the wall, shoot and spark straight up.

That thing that comes out of the pipe won't reach you until you're on the other side of that wall you bomb through at the top and are already falling down. You miss Hi-Jump, but I don't feel it saves enough time to make up for the coolness of this trick. XD

You can also spark up through the roof on the left side of the shaft, I've never tried it, though. I don't think you spark up very far. After that, you can choose to get Hi-Jump and then go back down into the shooter.

It's probably better on 100% returning from the second visit to Ridley, as skipping the Hi-Jump slows down the Mother Ship escape.

Edit: Stop! Look! Listen!

Not very much at all. Maybe like 5 seconds. Not nearly as much as it would waste to simply GET hi-jump and get back on track.

I get Hi-Jump before Imago Cocoon. It's actually useful to me, as I can't beat Mother Brain without the Varia, and can't get the Varia without the Hi-Jump because I can't really do the DBJ consistently. I also can't skip acid worm at all because it either requires the HBJ ( :x ) or Mr. Aran's 2-bomb propel, neither of which I can do at all consistently.

Of course, all of this is dependent on my not using savestates, but I don't use them much any more.
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
Don't AJ and I do that in our videos (the upward spark).

In 100% or what? I don't remember the routes, but I'm pretty sure most of the speedrunners do any% normal with Ridley first.

100%.

I haven't actually watched any runs except transience's two recent ones. I ought to watch some others actually. If I can put up with waiting 17 hours for them to download, of course.
twenty eight fifty
my videos and 100% videos are completely different - I doubt we do anything besides the first room and the last room the same. you should check them out.
lol no way
In 100% I think we charge up right from the room before the hanging larva, then we run through the save room, charge in the tall vertical room, and then spark in the regular (not hidden off to the right) vertical room, about in the center. Basically put yourself on the block directly to the right of the little... thing that sticks down, and spark up.
Well, if you do the slower version, which I see no reason to do, (the one in the secret shaft), how are you gonna get out of there?
If you mean the "Ridley before Kraid" shaft, then there are pit blocks somewhere at the top. Done it myself.
