Just forget talking about Echoes with t-bob. It's pointless and frustrating. He sucks at it, therefore he thinks the game sucks.
I'm pretty much the only one who has ever explained my dislike of Echoes, though... I find it boring and full of bad design decisions. Not sure where being bad comes in.
I mean you could make that argument with literally anyone else.
I'd also like to come up with my personal list ordered by the amount of fun I had and still have with the games. The two games that will be missing are 'Pinball' (haven't played it, yet) an 'Metroid II RoS' which I borrowed once as a child but couldn't finish it.
#1 Metroid Prime: It is still ranked as my favourite game of all time, so obvioulsy it is also on top of this list. Great atmosphere, music, areas and it doesn't get boring no matter how often you pick it up. SBs are enhancing this experience.
#2 Super Metroid: You may take it for granted having it at such a high position - for me it was not. Not owning a Super Nintendo and refusing to play it on a emulator the first time through it was not until 2007 when it came out as a Virtual Console title, that I played this masterpiece. And the lack of a hint system as it was introduced in MZM and MF (which I both loved till this point) let me consider this game as the best 2D-Metroid.
#3 Metroid Fusion: Yes, the linearity may be an argument against this game, but I can't help myself saying that I simply love to play through it again and again (if you exclude the adam conversations). But even aside from my fun running through this game, I'd still regard it as very good. It had some cool areas, the atmosphere was tense and I like the overall physics plus I appreciated the story.
#4 Metroid Zero Mission: I'd like to rank it just as high as Fusion, because I like this game nearly to the same extent. It was a brilliant remake and wandering around in Kraid's and Ridley's Hideout with this music in the background was such a cool experience. Furthermore I was pretty happy about that last segment - the defeat of the chozo boss and regaining the new suit with new abilities was one of the most satisfying Metroid-moments for me.
#5 Metroid Prime 3 Corruption: I have to admit that I was more impressed right after my first playthrough than I am now after some time has passed. The story and the ending were just lame and AU really started to annoy me, but it definitely had its moments. Bryyo (ice) and Skytown rocked and had a very special feel in this game, Metroid lab was overwhelming - all with perfect new controls (springball <3).
#6 Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Yes, it is ranked as the 6th title, but it is still a great game. After finishing it twice right after the release though I kind of developed a dislike towards this game. Whereass I could pick up Prime 1 again and again I felt sort of unconfortable with attempting another echoes-run. I don't know why exactly, maybe because of its colour scheme, the dark world and the sky temple keys...some time has passed and I finished Prime 2 about three more times and my attitude towards this game has relaxed. I especially loved the beginning which was pretty intense and argon felt very organic for me.
#7 Metroid Other M: No, it's not a good Metroid game. Linearity with no optional paths, no exploration whatsoever till the ending, obvious gamedesign flaws and some very anti-climatic segments. BUT: It still motivated me enough to start my third playthrough right after release which is something not every Metroid game could pull of. So credits for that. I don't like the direction this game introduced, but the overall gameplay mechanics were still solid enough.
#8 Metroid: This is a tough positioning...I can't refuse that it was an extreme challenging, rewarding and puristic experience to play through it the first time. But I don't feel any urge whatsoever to pick it up again and since replayability is an important factor in the Metroid franchise for me I won't place it higher.
#9 Metroid Prime Hunters: This was also sort of a tough decision. We don't have to talk about the single player experience though. Despite having some cool areas, nice graphics and controls I was bored after some time due to the repetitive gameplay-scheme and never touched the single player mode again after my first playthrough. It still has a right to exist because of the cool multiplayer mode with online battles. I think I spent about 100 hours with the multiplayer allone, so I still had a lot of fun - just not in a way I would normally have with a Metroid game.

I am lacking the imagination to figure out how Prime cannot get boring. Can you please explain your personal view how you keep having fun with it?
No matter what the game is, if you play it too much in a short stretch of time chances are you're going to get bored after a little. Or at least you'll get to the point where you don't feel like playing it again for a little bit. It tends to happen a lot with me. I usually take a good amount of time off and come back to it later and can play the heck out of it again no problem. (Kinda like how I haven't played StarCraft 2 in about a month ever since I got into Metroid again while preparing for Other M.)
There are a few exceptions, but for the most part this holds true for me for even the Metroid series unless I'm either in a speedrunning mood or we've just found something new in one of them.

Well, of course every game would get boring if it was the only game I'd be playing for a long time period. But that's not the case for me with prime. I can easily play through it 2-3 times in a row and having done that I I feel satisfied and have a break, putting it back in the shelf and picking it up again, when I feel the urge to do so which can happen quite often. The thing is for me, that everytime when I put the prime disc back into the Cube or the Wii I so much enjoy playing it again with no trace of boredom whatsoever. Of course this happens to a lots of games if you put long enough breaks inbetween your playthroughs, but with Prime it is different. Usually my breaks don't have to be that long to pick it up again and considering how often I've already beaten this game it still should get boring...but it simply didn't.
I'd even say that knowing this game by heart is an important fun-factor for further playthrough and sessions. You simply know what you'll get and I am looking forward to dive into the world which I have visited before. Speedrunning and sequence breaks also really add to that experience - it is still fun and challenging for me to pull of some tricks or running against my personal time which really spices things up years after years. I simply love it!
Btw this is a phenomenon that involves only another 1 or 2 games for me - another example would be Resident Evil 4.
