I've been attempting a 1% nonspeed run, and I'm kinda... stuck at Nightmare. About my 330th attempt or something (I'm like 400 now, maybe more... gurgle) I noticed something interesting.

Normally, when you hit Nightmare's damage zones, you get hurt no matter what. If you're space jumping, and have the charge beam fully charged, and hit his ball or his face (depending on what phase he's in), it'll do the charge attack damage, and you'll still get hurt (unless you hit his face and it deals the final blow... maybe).
There is one exception to this rule.
If you have a full charge and are space jumping (so you can't do this when he's in gravity mode), you can go right through his arms without taking any damage whatsoever.
This really helps for his last stage of not-yet-Core-X-ness, where you gotta evade him.

Unfortunately, I do not have any method for recording this trick. Maybe someone else could try? In the meantime, I'll try to locate an emulator, or something.
Thread title:
I'll get recording right now :P. Just have to get to Nightmare...

Awesome, Ekard.
One thing to note while using this is that you need to be careful when Nightmare's charging up his lasers. If you're in his arms when he fires them, they tend to smack you.

/me cries from amazement and punches self for not noticing before.
lol. i agree, this is a tough one for people who have 'been through' nightmare.

great discovery. i'll add it to the fusion section asap.
Update!
I just lost against Nightmare again, and in the process discovered that this actually works in gravity mode too! Apparently, as long as you're spin jumping, it works, whether or not you're space jumping.
Could we get a movie of this, Ekard?
hmm, i posted this before and you told me it was already known, nate.

It's commonly known that the hand doesn't affect you, and I think that's what he thought you said. Can you link to the topic you said it in?

Pseudo screw attack rocks.

It was my 1% runs topic. the third page somewhere i posted it cuz nightmare was being real hard and i found that out.

but then again, its really not that big of a deal.

Interesting. We seem to have each independantly discovered the same thing within a month of each other.
Nate, if/when you add the trick to the Fusion section of the site, make sure to credit I aM A mAnO as having discovered it. Your choice if you also want to credit me or not.
hah.. if you're going to you might as well credit both of us since he is the one who made it into its own topic and whatnot, without him saying anything no one would really care anyway. so yay, we both did it. hooray.  8)
I think a fight to the death would be a much more worthwhile and entertaining way of deciding who gets to be on the credits line.

I'm with Bladegash on this one. Where's that popcorn at?
This wasn't known? I've known about since my second or third run but since I thought the public knew this I didn't bother posting anything about it or record it.

Well I think I did it in my 1% run that I sent to Nate so it's recorded anyway.
hey, welcome to the forum ... you sent me a 1% run? when was this and by what means?
1% run? Is it a single segment?
I mailed it to you about yesterday. But today I saw that you don't accept runs done in an emulator anymore so it's kinda wasted.
sorry ... did you see our reasons why?
Yeah I know, and I totally understand why. But I didn't make it to get on a list though, it was mainly to show my friend, but I noticed that you didn't have any completed, segmented 1% runs, so I just thoght of submitting it.

It did have the "Psuedo screw attack trough Nightmare's legs/arms"-trick though. And another sweet spot for Nettoris first form (not Sess's): If you stand on the very very right of the high platform (as in only half a foot touching the platform) then you'll be far away enough for the left flower not to shoot and the right to miss, which mean you can just stand there shooting.
in what format is the run? i don't think your email made it to me. it sounds like i could use parts of your run to make videos for the fusion section, so that it wouldn't totally go to waste here. :)
It was in VM0/VMV

I'm gonna try sending it again.
ok. depending on how many segments, it may not work through email. you can still send it to me, though; i'll make it possible.

edit: just got it. i'll be sure to add the pseudo screw attack through nightmare's arms and the second secret spot in the next round of fusion updates.

Thats my secret spot! :P I think I mentioned it in a post on the best times topic, but I ain't sure. let's see......ah yes.

The only trouble will be eye doors, and how many times yukaza decides to crawl around. As long as that goes well, I can do the three bosses almost perfect. I've mastered yukaza's jumpy stage, and with nettori I have my own little magic spot, that is much easier to get to, but kills him just as fast, because it doesn't seem that charged shots from sess' magic spot do any more damage, even though they are close range.

well, I wasn't very specific, but thats what I'm talking about.......but you said what it was exactly first, so you get 1 million dollers and the credit on the fusion tricks page!!1!!

I knew that since before I cam to m2k2. Can you guess where I learned it?

GameFAQs.
Seriously, I did.
