Even though the majority of people consider the Game Boy Advance to be a portable Snes, i wonder if Nintendo actually based the controls of the DS on the Snes. Because if you look carefully, the Snes has the d-pad, the a, b, x and y buttons, as well as the two shoulder buttons. Nintendo ditched the x and y buttons and replaced them with the yellow c-buttons. Then, Nintendo took back the x and y buttons, and converted the c-buttons into an analog stick to make a Game Cube controller. The gba has the d-pad the l and r buttons as well as the a and b buttons. When they made the DS, they added the x an y buttons. My guess is that when they make the gbe, they're probably going to add analog sticks.
Thats how i think that Nintendo partially created the DS controls(either that or it just occured to me as a coincidence!!)
