I've been preparing to go for a new any% run, and I've just found a pretty big timesaver.  It's always bothered me how before fighting Ridley you have to backtrack to get that second Super Missile.  I was messing around in the tall room before the save point with the horizontal row of crumble blocks.  I always thought it might be possible to get to the top from the bottom (without shinesparking of course), and after some very tricky bomb jumping, I've managed to do just that.  It's VERY hard... I've only been able to do it once in about 20 minutes of playing.  This means that for any% runs, the best way to take care of Ridley is to go into the fight with two Supers and 30 missiles, and hope for a very rare Super refill.  You must get a Super refill, or else you won't have enough missiles to kill it.  Then after the fight, do the crazy bomb jump up the crumble block room, and get the Super + missile without any backtracking at all, saving about 20 seconds!  It takes about 25 seconds to backtrack to the Super and missile, and about 5 seconds or so for the bomb jump (haven't timed it out exactly, but it looks to be about 5 seconds).  This also means you'll be finishing the game on one tank... but that shouldn't be hard at all.

I can't record anything until at the earliest Sunday (both GBP and capture card are in my dorm at school), but I'll try and have a video of this up asap... as long as I can replicate it  :?

I hope this hasn't been discovered already, or else I've just wasted my time with a big post.
Thread title:
Hmm, after looking at that room, I managed a different method of climbing up. I was about to record the bomb jump but I have no clue how to play around with it :?. But with the wonders of frame-by-frame, I managed to walljump up. Not sure if it's manageable without assistance though. I'm not trying to take away any discovery; the credit pretty much still belongs to you :P. Anyways, here it is: http://www.metroid2002.com/ekarderif/crumble.avi.
Woah... that actually looks like it might be easier than the bomb jump!  It would be much faster too, if you could get it in one try.  I'll have to try this method out.

<edit>  Managed to pull it off after no more than a minute of playing.  As I expected, it's much easier and faster than the bomb jump I did (still have not been able to replicate it).

<edit>  Well, there's a third way to do it now.  I was just able to actually jump off of a crumble block to make it to the door.  The timing has to be perfect though, so I'm not sure if this would be easier than the walljump or not.  This was what I was initially trying before the bomb jump, but was never able to jump off a crumble block so I assumed it was impossible... guess not.  :P
Nice to hear you plan to improve your MZM time... but... what does that mean for mario world *96 run?

*runs*
I had a feeling you might post something like that  Wink

SMW is still my top priority, and I won't be seriously playing MZM until I'm done with my SMW run.  I've been in a bit of a slump with SMW though... probably because of the perfection I'm demanding on myself.  I've finished 6 or 7 1:38:xx and 1:39:xx runs, all plagued by deaths towards the end.  After I die once I usually stop caring though, so those runs were probably better than they might sound.  I don't care what it takes though, I'll have a perfect run eventually (perfect meaning no deaths and no major mistakes).
lol no way
Holy shit, that is way cool dude... yeah, that walljump doesn't look THAT hard, I'd imagine a bombjump would be way harder.
everybody knows it's true
Very good. Now if nate would be kind enough to post that on the zero mission page, then we would be all good.

Speaking of that, why doesn't Nate do any runs???
red chamber dream
I figure Nate'll put it on the MZM page in a year or two. :P
And I thought he did at least a few runs, but I've never watched them if they're on the site.
lol no way
I don't think Nate ever did any MZM runs, even when it was new... he did do some mp1 runs though, way back when.
Time bomb set get out fast!
Nate was planning to go for the Super Metroid any% record before the emuraped runs started coming out.  After that he decided there was no point.

Nate likes his Prime better with the music off, I've found... 8)
it was more of a diplomatic move, so that you could mix in your own music. trh and i recommend the 'fantastic five': hilary duff, alizée, m2m, pyt and girls aloud.
Okay, I shall watch you slay the Omega Pirate while listening to the Omega Pirate battle sound track.

Aw, no Ayumi Hamasaki, even though afaik you don't listen to her, and the 'fantastic six' doesn't sound as good :P
i should steal this present rachel got for adam (roommate freshman year who introduced me to metroid) ... hamasaki ayumi's latest album.

I recommend that you two repeatedly commit seppuku until your taste in music becomes decent and dignified.

Not that I'm being close-minded or anything.

Best post ever.  Wish I'd thought of it.

Should've asked this earlier; I know 4 of the "fantastic five", but who the hell are/is pyt?  Damn you and your evil reality TV-created musicks.

The concept of battling oh... Thardus while listening to Hilary Duff makes my head explode. Excuse me while I locate the remaining chunks... :o

I think black Sabbath or Led Zepplin would be more fitting for boss fights.

Definitely Black Sabbith, at least. Maybe some Zepp should be reserved for when you're fighting Metroid Prime in Prime I. He's got that colour-changing, trippy feel.
