I really don't see how anyone can complain about losing ranks and post count when they're completely pointless.

The only thing in this discussion I'd ever like to have would be custom ranks for all users, but that doesn't really matter either.

And besides, you can equate this to DRM only if you equate nate to a money-grubbing corporate overlord. Which he ain't. :/

Custom ranks for all users would take too much effort by the administration. And I'd be against the idea, anyway, as one of the upsides to being a mod is having one. Just something we get.

Like I said, that's not ever going to happen, and what you think does not matter. I don't want to see a bunch of people posting here about what they think should happen, as those decisions are solely up to the Forum Administration, mainly nate.

It's easy to just add a field to your user settings where you can change your own custom rank. Atleast, with the invision forums, but I reckon it's possible with phpbb too.

BTW, you still haven't given us a straight answer as to why you did it. If you do have a good reason, chances are, most of us will stop debating it, but if it was just meant to solve a tiny problem (that could be solved in a better way), we'll probably keep talking about it.

Opera. I thought that might be the problem and checked with Firefox and IE as well… the text is too far to the left in Firefox (all the way to the left instead of just lined up with the spoiler box) and is in the correct location in IE. It might just be some screwed-up settings I have, though.

works fine for me in ie 6 and firefox 1.5.0.1 both, though the text is aligned slightly differently in ie (further to the left, the opposite of what you report).

Ark makes the best point in argument against everyone having their own custom ranks... It would be just another thing that the mods/admins would have to look after, as many people would abuse the privelage. Who knows if the censor would catch any words put into the custom rank field.

Look at the mods/admions here. Nate has changed his custom rank a few times, Ark, Radix, Toozin, and Tim have kept theirs the same, and Yoshi and TRH have changed theirs no more than three times since I've been here.

Whereas if we gave the custom ranks to everyone, we'd have people that change it every day. It's the same reason Eon Sol (The founder of my profile site, DarkStarlings) refuses to give the option of changing your display name. Take a look at MySpace. I know people on their whose display name changes every hour. It causes a whole shit load of confusion.

Custom ranks would be just like if every member here had the ability to change their username. It'd be hell.

I don't know if it's been noted by anyone else yet, but when you click on the icon that takes you to the last post made in a topic (by the authors name on the relevent board), it doesn't do that, and sort of sets you up about half-way up the page. And it's getting rather annoying now tbh. :| I can live with the auto-refresh for the width mod, but not going straight to the last post (in an almost full page at least) is annoying. Just thought I'd bring it to your attention.

I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.1 (I generally don't use IE anymore) if that helps at all.

Funnily enough, just after posting this, I was taken about 5 posts UP from my post right afterwards, instead of straight to this post! Laughing

I have the same problem...on a pretty damned slow computer running FF 1.5.0.1...what it shows is that all the text shows up for a second or so, then disappears, causing the page to cinch way up, then as the text comes back, it doesn't go back down to where it was before. Hopefully that makes some sense...

A pair of problems. One, it seems SAL has a custom rank. Two, when Nate did as I requested and got rid of the space where our ranks used to be. The BANNED title moved next to the avatar. However, it seems Kun's is unaffected... *Shrug* Perhaps the removal of BANNED members avatars & sigs?
