Hel-lo, Power Grip.
It looks like she's haning to something sticking out of the wall.  But it has the same color as the suit.  Perhaps some sort of Power Grip-ish functionality on any wall with a wall-peircing attachment?

i sure hope you can hang from any ledge...

and love her new short hair... but i think this is on her past, like flashbacks...
I don't like the new hair.  Melee attacks could be... interesting, but they could also be limited to cutscenes.

I'm wondering why people are exactly thinking the girl above IS samus.

In the first info release (or a consecutive one) we were told that's NOT samus, but someone VERY important.

We also see Samus putting on her Power Suit in the first trailer and she has her Zero Suit hair.
Thought that referred to the woman in the lab coat at the end of the E3 trailer, not the one they keep showing us now. Can't see how it could be anyone BUT Samus with how much they're showcasing her in the few images we've gotten of the game up to this point.

And I said it before: I actually like this look for Samus, shorter hair and all.
ANKOKU
I would doubt it's the person in the labcoat because if that were the person in question, some fan's sure are messed up in the head to think someone other than Samus would be standing, in the Power Suit, right next to someone, in a lab coat, they believe to be Samus.
Short-haired Samus seems like she'll be limited to when we delve into her past because from what I read from IGN and Joystiq's hands-on previews, she has long hair and her Zero Suit for the demo they played.  Truth be told, I don't mind the short hair one bit.  It's different, more fitting of her time in the GF military.

i'm just glad scatter bombs are returning.

weirdest thing though is that you can't move while in first-person view ...
Considering the control scheme it makes sense.  There's no buttons available to move, though I guess they could have done something with the Dpad to have slight sidesteps.  It'll take getting used to I'm sure.

And scatter bombs were a big surprise to me.  Awesome.

Also, Joystiq mentioned that cramped areas have the camera go over-the-shoulder like in Resident Evil 4.  Sounds interesting.

they could have just used the nunchuk.

You'll quickly find that while there's no real lock-on system from third-person mode, the heroine very accurately auto-targets the nearest enemy.

That could get difficult if you're trying to hit something behind a lot of other closer enemies.

At any time, and anywhere, if you point the Wii remote at the screen, the action will change to the first-person and you'll be able to take direct control over Aran's beam as you might in the Prime games.

So that might happen if the camera in the Wiimote picks up a signal that bounced off a wall.  Not good.

In the demo, Aran doesn't really upgrade her weapons, but she will only utilize certain ones with permission of Malkovich.

I really hope it won't work that way when it's released.

Nintendo reps on hand said that the demo only represents the very beginning of the game -- by comparison, the first 45 minutes of Metroid Prime, at which time exploration has only just begun.

Some people are faster than you think.

haha. fusion is reborn.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
That could just be a feature in the demo, since they want to show off stuff. I doubt you'll have a lot of weapon options in the beginning.
Yeah, from what I've heard of the basic outline of the demo, it's reminding me a lot of Fusion in some places. Sounds like Adam is going to be giving some orders, at least at first, as to what you're supposed to be doing and where you should be headed after that battle with the purple tentacle boss from the trailer.

The Wiimote does not work that way.

If you've ever played Super Paper Mario you'll know that this isn't an issue at all.

They could but then how would you switch views?  I doubt they would design the game so that you have the nunchuk sitting in your lap and then pick it up for 1st person.  If it was held prime style, view toggle would have to be set to a button, maybe C or something.  However, for all the 3rd person pseudo-sidescrolling action the game is offering, I think I might prefer the digital pad to the analog stick.  I know in Galaxy when there's a sidescroll section I can't help but wish I could play the section like in I can with nsmbwii.  But, to each their own.  I think it'll simply take some getting used to and then we won't have much issues with it.

they could make a classic controller scheme, although i hate analogic aim...

The more controller options, the better.  I like the idea of using the wiimote without the nunchuck.  Holding the wiimote sideways allows me to hold it upside down and use my fingers on the dpad and 1 & 2 buttons instead of my thumbs.  This is how I used to hold the original NES controller and it gave me th undeniable edge to pwn everyone I knew at video games.  Four fingers is WAY better than two thumbs in terms of speed and accuracy.

i still don't know how ppl can play fighting games using the thumb...

So THAT'S why she crashed her ship in Fusion.

Asian AND a woman, you'd think the Space DMV would have known better.
