NOA's Other M Page with Overview and new images!

New Images:

Plotline:
Metroid fans know more about Samus’ suits and weapons than they do about what drives her. That’s about to change. The story begins immediately following the events of Super Metroid, when a baby Metroid gave its life to protect Samus. With voice acting and a rich story, players learn the engaging backstory of Samus as she weaves through an action-packed adventure aboard the Bottle Ship, a decommissioned space facility. As she hurtles into this new adventure, Samus will encounter her first mentor and Commanding Officer of the Galactic Federation, Adam Malkovich.

Controls:
Metroid: Other M takes the best elements of 1st-person and 3rd-person gaming to create a seamless blend between gameplay, story-telling and dynamic cinematography, that feels like a movie the player can control.Players hold the Wii Remote controller sideways while navigating and battling in 3rd-person. However, at any moment, players can switch immediately to Wii Remote pointer controls to examine and explore the environments in 1st-person perspective.

So from the images, we can see that the minimap is replaced by a circular radar map, and it looks like you might be able to go into first person even during cutscenes from the last image.  Also, firing from ledges, red visor when low on health.  Saying that it takes place immediately after Super Metroid only furthers my belief that we'll get to fight Mother Brain in glorious 3D.  Adam has to die in this game, he has to since the plot makes it sound like you will see him at various points as Samus explores this space facility.

June can't come fast enough.

You got your MGS in my Metroid.

Still, looks freaking awesome.

watching adam die sounds like the best thing ever. let's hope he's less annoying when alive though. ;)

It LOOKS pretty, but I have reservations about some of these revelations. It looks like IR control for the 1st person stuff, and swapping between horizontal and vertical was a bit of a pain in Super Paper Mario. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid and nitpicky though. I'll be getting it even if it turns out to be the shittiest game ever shat, because it's Metroid dammit.

i will love this game, now that the damn sidescroller rumour is off the way, this game will eb awesome!

Hmm.

Please note: screen captures are taken from a version of the game still in development and are provided at a higher resolution than what is available in game.

Nintendo you sneaky bastards you.

At least I can say, design wise, those space marines or whatever they happen to be look way better than the Halo rejects space marines from Echoes/Corruption.
We'll know exactly how much difference there is once we start getting reports from the gaming sites come tonight.

Also, looks like that first image is a holographic training room or something since that Space Pirate looks quite...holographic. :P

Obviously it's on an important mission to deliver retro glass bottles of Mountain Dew into deep space.

I actually liked SPM, for the record. But then, I wasn't trying to shoot shit in SPM either.

Looking at the radar in the corner, either there's some serious screen-warping going on, or this isn't restricted to a two-dimensional plane when you're in 3rd person. Which makes the horizontal controller thing totally baffling. It would make infinitely more sense to go nunchuck-style.

I'm getting more and more wary the more I look at this stuff.

Haha, I just realized, looking at the pics again, that the marines went from Halo rejects to Mass Effect rejects. I still maintain they look better though.

I'm assuming that, based on that first teaser we got last year, there's more than just that station. Unless it's like the BSL and has areas where the environment changes into fire and ice, I don't see how the whole thing could take place there.

But then again, even with this new info we still don't know that much about how it's going to all work in the end. I'm still waiting for a hands-on with the game, and as Toozin said, I'm getting it no matter what because it's Metroid.

And I don't remember having any problem with the control scheme for SPM, granted I've only played through the entire thing once when it came out, so my memory of it isn't that good right now. It does sound odd for what they're trying to do with Metroid though.

Heh, when you think about it, we still barely know more than we did last month. These screens seem to raise more questions than answers for me.

i thought the same thing, perhpas there will be a hub worlds of sorts and this is kind of chalenges, like the infinite tower in devil may cry 2 or the dungeon of ordeals in TP

I'm guessing, judging from the lack of health and missiles and the perfectly square shape of the room, that it's a "this is how you play" training segment. But it's impossible to say anything for sure right now.
Yeah, I noticed that throughout all of those images there's no E-Tanks and only 10 missiles maximum, so if that holds true this is possibly just the early segments of the game.

But yeah, a dozen or so images, a few paragraphs of text, and look at all of the speculation we're throwing around already. Tells you how desperate we are for more info, but that's always what Nintendo does with their first party games.

Hel-lo, Power Grip.  She also seems to run more like her Zero Mission self, too (and Fusion self, I suppose, but with such a different suit, I'mma let it sit this comparison out).

Good to know that IMMEDIATELY following Super Metroid, after witnessing a child-like metroid sacrifice it's own life for hers, the first thing Samus does is get a haircut.
Looking much better. I like the new Gfeds and the environments are pretty cool. I'm a little nervous about how those controls will work though... constantly switching from FPS to platformer seems... uh... odd.

Also I'm getting the sense that there won't be a lot of exploration. All I see is fighting.
