New here, and need help with boss!

Hi all, I'm new here, and new to this game, and this is my first post :D

I'm asking for help against the Psychotic Zombie Dragon of DOOM. I can't seem to beat it.

I shoot it, it gets pissed off at me, and then its meat-grinder tail makes mince meat out of Samus. Whenever I see tail, I know it's game-over screen for me.

Can anyone give me some tips?

Anyway, check the site for the Ridley cheesing strat if you are.

I think so, unless there are more dragons with tails of armor-dicing +3 in the game.

I can't watch the stuff on the site for some odd reason...I have quicktime...

Can you give me any other advice?

lol enough edits. Doh. Didn't see your post about not being able to see movies. Tried reinstalling QT? Anyway, the easiest way to beat Ridly is to stay under him. He jumps up and down as you might have seen. Stay under him and you won't take any damage. Fire a missile each time he jumps up. The tail-swiping is activated due to too much damage too fast practically. If you want to play it safe, fire a missile between 2 jumps or so. Or go find more E. Tanks.

Right. Can't watch those for some reason. Dunno what I'm missing.

In the meantime, can you guys describe in words what I can do?

EDIT: I posted before your 3rd edit. Well, I run out of missiles pretty quickly. I usually die within like 3 hits as well, sometimes he tail-swipes even when I'm not shooting.

Start over, and collect more energy/missile tanks. And play it on easy, if it's your first game, and you're having a hard time. Gamefaqs.com has good maps to find missiles and stuff. Be sure to pick up 3 or 4 super missile tanks, since they help alot. You can shoot the little fireballs Ridley fires for more ammo.

People have trouble against Ridley on normal runs? Make sure you've gotten all super missle tanks possible.

I have 25 missiles, 0 super missiles, and 99 energy.

Plus, I've shot the little fireballs Ridley shoots out. None of them give any ammo/energy balls. The big ones that are slower sometimes give me stuff I need.

When you get the unknown item, roll into a ball. Get in his hands. He revives you. And have you gotten the energy tank yet?

Ahh yes, there''s a hidden energy thing there! The wall is hollow. Ok, now I have 199 energy. It helps a bit, but once it has me trapped against a wall I still die quickly.

I believe by then you already have the Charge Beam. Use the trick of staying below his foot claws at all times, and after you spend all your missiles, start firing charged beam attacks. After a while, he'll fall.

Actually I don't...someone told me that you get crappy endings if you get too many items, hence so far far I have collected like no energy tanks and only a handful of missiles.

I was exploring Norfair I believe and I was just experimenting with jumping off walls and mashing the bombs to propel me upwards, and then I suddenly fell down this shaft and soon fought a boss with spores. Then I went down into Ridley and couldn't get back out.

You don't get crappy endings if you have a lot of items. In fact, you get a very good ending by getting all of them. The endings are, for the most part, based on time not item collection.

Oh, I'm wrong; under 15% there isn't a time limit. Silly me. Embarassed

Still, I think it's a little unfair to call all the endings besides the <15% ones "crappy".

Well right now my immediate concern is just the zombie dragon. Any tips on beating it with my loadout? I can't get out of Ridley to find more stuff anyways.

There's another E. Tank about 3 rooms to the east of the save point outside the boss fight. Or restart.

Get all the items possibe. First metroid game eh? 199 energy? That stinks go back and get more.

The "cheesey strat" is when you stay under the lower claws (the lowest claws) and shoot at him, the claws will touch you, but not do any damage and will "overlap" you. :D

So I can just stay under her claws forever and Ridley can't do jack diddley to me?

Seems mighty odd for such a powerful boss. Most of the time in video games touching bosses=bad. How do people beat it without cheesing it then? Or does everybody just cheese her to death?

Anyways yeah so what you are all saying is that I shouldn't be at this boss at such an early time?

Your first time through this game should NOT have been a low percent run... you even Sequence Broke to avoid Super Missiles? o_o;

Anyway, I've never 'cheesed' Ridley, as I've always been prone to doing speed runs, and cheese =/= speed.

If you want to kill him fast, here's some tips:

- Right at the bignning, when he shoots his initial fireballs at him, pound missiles into him. It should do some good damage, iirc.

- Unleash everything on him. When he starts swinging his tail, move to a side of the platform where he can't hit you. When he looks like he starts Pogo-ing, roll into a ball and go under it. You'll be safe.

- If you can't kill him with the ammo you have (And I think you can't. =\), go for the cheese and wait for him to shoot out four fireballs vertically. They drop missile and energy, so restock and attack.

If all else fails, restart? You're dangerously low on Enrgy Tanks and missiles for that point in the game.
