Thanks for the help, but I dont use zsnes at all.
Also I dont know how to use any features besides save states and slowdown and I definately dont want to learn  :P
I think I will manage with that. What a coincidence, I have just about to arrive to the point where I am trying Kidgokus advice to get to the snail missiles. Then let the fun begin  :)

Another thing: I thought I found the x-ray and gasped deep, but it was only some hidden passage I have never found even in the regular SM. Still no luck with that...

EDIT: Allright that entrance is pure gunship, kraid AND flickerbat. If I go there the way Kidgoku suggested, I get stuck when the block comes back. With gravity suit and snail it is also so very very tedious and I could not do it that way either. Crappiest thing in this hack I say. I would rather glitch a thousand crumble blocks with snails than try that BS for long. Those missiles can rot there for all I care.  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad  :x  :(

That happened to me at first, You get stuck cos you don't get enough speed, Try to run a little and jump. As your jumping, Turn to a ball and hold right.

Maybe i can draw on it where to stand,

*Spoilers*

You Just have to hook on then let go, As it will still crumble. Use save stats. Hook once, let go, Save stat, Go on the edge where you stand, Save stat. Look how long it cumbles, Depend how long, Save stat, So that when you jumping, It crubles at the right timing.

Try to jump a few seconds before you here it crumble.

I can do it everytime.
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
Personally, I use

Yeah, it took me a while, but got it. Very clever once again!

please, could you give me a hint? I really tried everything that came in my mind, but I still couldn't find anything...
Allright, the block you want to break is not "visible" (does not mean invisible)  :)
Thanks for the hint. I found it, wasn't really that hard compared to other hidden things...

Now i can finally visit lower norfair.
I have 10 e-tanks, is it possible to have more at this part?
Nope, if you have 10 e-tanks and 4 reserves, you are all set to go. Have fun!
THE MISSION WAS COMPLETE!

Good bye Impossible! Add me to the list :D
Waaaaaaa i want insanity
OMG i'm still looking for that bloody X-ray sorry if i'm being annoying but what are the hints so far. it is just a long topic and i cant be bothered reading all pages.
Instead of quoting it here again, I will just say it is in page 29 summed up by P.JMan. It would not hurt to read forth a little bit from there either, I think.

Good luck with that, I dont have time to search that one right now but I sincerely hope you or someone else finds it, sooner or later.
Hi all; i'm Foxhound3857, a user from GameFAQ's. Kejardon and Anima Zero will recognize me; =). I hope to become buddies with all of you and i'll help in any way that I can, be it advice or knowledge of the game.

On that note, I have begun SM: Impossible and will need assistance regularly. I've used countless Save States so far, but i'm still making progress in the game, slow though it may be. I know I shouldn't be using Save States, but i'm not quite the pro that Kej and Anima Zero are. Saturn may be crazy in the challenge department, but he's no fool; he did a great job. It feels like the first time I played the game; frustrating and confusing.

I finally escaped Norfair with Super Missiles, and am now backtracking to collect a few expansions before heading into the Wrecked Ship using the running wall-jump from the wrong side. I have...

3 Energy Tanks.
10 Missiles.
5 Super Missiles.

Spazer Beam.

Morph Ball.
Bombs.

Hi-Jump Boots.

I'm hoping to find the Charge Beam soon; I feel naked without it. I would also like the Wave Beam if I can find it, but it's okay if that's not an option right now.

Anyway, thanks for being patient with me and my lengthy introduction, and I hope to make the SM: Impossible Honor's list eventually. =)

Update: 100 Save States later, Phantoon is defeated. What a cheapass. I'm making my way to the spike hallway now.
EDIT: I am terribly sorry for the extremely long post.
EDIT 2: I revised a bit significantly.
EDIT 3: Tried to update it to v1.5 (I did do v1.5 up to 99% before I even made this post, it's just that I was thinking of items from previous versions Wink).

Okay, I just got back into this hack today and I have beaten Ridley and am now back at 99%. Saturn, that Power Bomb near the Charge Beam was quite clever indeed.

About the Space Jump, you could get it immediately after picking up the second super missile pack (in WS). I actually never considered using the PBs for any invincibility time, plus I used the right wall instead of left. :P

Right now I'm just really focused on getting that X-Ray Scope.
I need to take that sum up and put it right here so everyone can see my pure extrapolations. :P

First, let's narrow down the areas again!

Quote from Saturn:
it's not in Tourian.

It's not in Wrecked Ship.

It's not in Crateria.

it's not in Ceres Station of course. I didn't change it at all actually.

So now it is narrowed down to Brinstar, Maridia, and Norfair.

Quote from Saturn:
You won't be able to get it unless you defeat all bosses except Mother Brain.

Obviously, this implies Ridley's defeat. Also, it means that you would then be able to get the remaining powerups that allow you to "properly" search Brinstar, Maridia, and Norfair.

However, this is my big question. What constitutes being able to explore an area properly? Varia and Gravity may prevent Heat and Lava damage, but it is possible to survive without such items.

For example, I can obtain the missiles in the lava room two rooms east of the Brinstar-Norfair elevator (using 7 E-tanks and 3-4 R-tanks) by timing two power bomb correctly. All the items in LN can be picked up before fighting Ridley, and you can still beat him (just not in one full sweep, maybe). Also, the super missile tank in the acid room (right before the first super missile tank), can be acquired without either Varia or Gravity. I just used the spring ball in hopes of avoiding acid (Same amount of energy here, I think).

Basically, if it is within my powers to clear a room out of items before fighting Ridley (and get out alive and unstuck), it is not a place worth searching IMO.

However, the big exception, of course, is Maridia. The Gravity Suit's underwater mobility greatly changes the playing field. The possibility of using the Speed Booster screams at my mind. Maridia is perhaps the most likely place to find X-Ray simply because there is that much more to check compared to Brinstar and Norfair.

When it came down to checking rooms, the only rooms I deemed worthy in Norfair and Brinstar were these rooms:

Brinstar

1. Pink Brinstar E-Tank (Requiring Wave Beam) and the room with the blue gate. Technically, I would consider the right half of the gate room outside the e-tank worthy of searching.

2. The Tube Missiles. You could search this area, but I'm still curious about Ice Beam usage for the X-Ray.

Norfair

1. Original Wave Beam room (E-tank now). Doesn't open until Ridley is dead.

2. Where the Wave Beam is now. Same dice as the original room.

3. The Power Bomb after Crocomire. Same dice as the Wave Beam.

4. The room with the Varia Suit. Is there echo in here?

5. The area with the Gravity Suit. *CoughNeedWaveBeamCough*

As for Maridia, you have the Screw Attack room and the Ice Beam room to search. However, you also have every other room that makes use of the Gravity Suit, for the most part. Good rooms to check would be the room before Botwoon and the room where the original Evil Power Bomb #66 is located.

Quote from Saturn:
you get Ice as the latest item of all.

To me, this implies that the Ice Beam is the last "unique powerup" and therefore is not required to find the X-Ray.

Quote from Saturn:
X-Ray scope has its own unique index and won't disappear in any case from its location.

At least Space/Time Beam is out of the question. extra_smug

Quote from Saturn:
I said no "unknown tricks" are required to get it.
(Unknown != Special)

So then, time to make the most of the recorded tricks on this site! Or it could be something weird, like the missile reflector thingy before the Bomb Torizo in Redesign. <_< Therefore, this could (and most likely does) go beyond the recorded tricks!

Quote from Saturn:
Quote from Lance Uppercut:
Does power bomb or wave beam reveal the possible whereabouts of the x-ray?

At least I hope that it doesn't!

To me, that implies the X-Ray is offscreen. Take note, you probably wouldn't be able to hear the block crumble (provided X-Ray is hidden in one) when using the power bomb, and you need to be careful when shooting with the wave beam (sometimes all the sound channels are being used before the crumble sounds has its chance to be heard, I think).

Quote from Saturn:
Quote from Lance Uppercut:
have you altered some blocks so they do not react to bombing like they normally would? Say, uncovering a super missile block or something?

No, I didn't alter any Super Missile blocks, but maybe another kind...

I will just say, no, there aren't any altered speed-blocks in the hack that wouldn't show up if you bomb them.

That doesn't mean that there aren't any altered speed-blocks. For example, speed-blocks that reappear immediately after being broken down (like the two speed-blocks right above Crocomire's chamber).

Ugh, all this deep thinking hurts.
EDIT: Over 8 hours of rest and a 20 oz. Mountain Dew. WOO!!!
Hi, welcome to forums. My name is Lance Uppercut and I am probably the biggest fan of this hack (and Saturn, of course  :) )

If you ever "run against a wall" in this hack, feel free to ask anything but I suggest using the Impossible thread for that. Also, if you have time and patience, you might want to consider reading that thread a little bit, but beware of the spoilers, especially at the latest pages because they dont have that much spoiler tags.

There is no shame using save states in this hack. There is no player who would complete this one single-segmented.

( Also, I suggest picking up another super missile pack before going into Maridia. It is in the place of the gravity suit in the original game.  Wink  )
Rothlenar:
Excellent thinking! You listed pretty much everything exclusively (sp). :)

Maybe some day I'll get motivated enough to get back into playing his hack.
How can I go hunt items after I get the Speed Booster? I still can't get back into the main areas of Crateria and Brinstar without the Wave Beam, so I need to find that before going to Lower Norfair.

I hope that there are some ET's on the way to Draygon because 3 won't cut it for this battle.
You can get back to green Brinstarwith just speed booster.  Explore around a bit.

And three etanks is enough for Draygon if you go crazy on savestates (but I think there is a fourth one somewhere).  Good luck.
Still, i'd like the Wave Beam before Lower Norfair.

Either way, i'm having trouble in the Morph Ball maze before the Meridia elevator; there doesn't seem to be a way out.

Edit: Nevermind. That was clever, hiding the path in the ceiling.

Meridia now.
Update: After my huge detour to get what few power-ups were available with my new Power Bombs, i'm finally back at the Meridia tube entrance with...

3 Energy Tanks.
30 Missiles.
10 Supers.
5 Powers.

Charge Beam.
Spazer.

Morph Ball.
Bombs.

Hi-Jump.

Nice job Saturn; the Charge Beam was well-earned indeed. Still wish I had Ice or Wave to go with it.

Time to explore Meridia proper now. I wish more ET's were available, but oh well.
You can have up to 6 E-Tanks and 1 Reserve Tank by the time you face off with Draygon if you're determined :P.  It's not required though as I beat the boss with only 3 E-Tanks myself on my 1st playthrough.  Just be ready to savestate often during the Draygon fight.  He's nasty.
Ok, I have revised my huge post again. I tried doing a few things others might not have thought of.

For one thing, what if the X-Ray scope is hidden in a Crumble Grapple Block (just like WS's E-tank)? Then again, that is not possible since we should be able to access every grappling block before Ridley. HOWEVER, just because you can grapple a crumble grapple block doesn't mean that it is possible to reach that same space without the Gravity Suit.

I tried to do some item comparing between Impossible and Vanilla (original SM).

Please correct me on incorrect values.

In the original SM:
Brinstar has 31 items.
Crateria has 13 items.
Maridia has 18 items.
Norfair has 30 items.
Wrecked Ship has 8 items.

In SM Impossible:
Brinstar has 31 items, maybe.
Crateria has 12 items, for sure.
Maridia has 18 items, maybe.
Norfair has 30 items, maybe.
Wrecked Ship has 8 items, for sure.

Of course, for SMI I had everything except X-Ray. What I was hypothesizing was that Brinstar, Maridia, and Norfair would have the same item count in both Vanilla and Impossible. So, I hoped that one of those three areas would be missing an item when I had 99% in Impossible. Of course, Saturn might have been thinking of this pre-emptively and didn't put X-Ray in Crateria.

Saturn really put a lot of work into this (as almost every other hack creator has). This is a lovely puzzle.

I'm determined. if I can have even ONE more item for a nasty boss such as Draygon, then show me where it is. I want to WIN, not frustrate myself with millions of save states. I've already used hundreds of them, and i'd better make that damn Honor's list when all is said and done.

Saturn, you should make a third Honor's list to anyone who can complete this hack WITHOUT save states.

Alrighty :P.  Locations of 3 more E-Tanks and a reserve tank...

1. To the right of Crocomire's lair.  No, you don't need Grapple Beam.  Just need Power Bombs to remove the blocks in front of the tank, then need to utilize a bit of strategy to get to it.  Acid is nasty though so be quick with your jumping while in it to keep energy loss down.

2. Where the X-Ray Scope used to be.  If you're good at IBJ'ing, then it is indeed possible to get to before getting the Grapple Beam.  Going to be running over some spikes though so be quick about it.  Once in the old X-Ray Scope room though, grabbing the E-Tank is easy.

3. In Maridia.  Need to be good at underwater walljumping though in the room before the "turtle" room.  Once you get up that shaft though, it shouldn't be too hard to locate the E-Tank as well as a few other expansions to boot.

As for the reserve, it's in Norfair in its usual place.
Thanks Zero. I'm sure I can get one of those tanks and the reserve, and i'll try my luck with a second tank, the one behind Crocomire. The only one i'm sure I can get is where the X-Ray used to be.

Walljumping in Meridia annoys me, so i'll let that one go.

I'm stuck in the first room in Meridia though. I'm very close to the top, right next to the Plasma Beam, but I can't reach the platform to the door.

Edit: Got two of the E-Tanks, a Reserve, and another Missile pack to boot. I think I can handle it now. Thanks.
Stuck again. I'm in the metallic Meridia room leading up to Botwoon. I can't take either sand path because they drop me off in the Evir rooms and the expansions aren't worth it. I can't go up for obvious reasons. I don't know where to go.
Thanks for your detailed analyzes of the items, Rothlenar. Very interesting thoughts that might open new ideas about X-Ray again. :)
Only thing that I should note is, v1.5 has a relatively major item location change to 1.4. I read that you sometimes wrote that you got items in locations where they don't exist anymore in 1.5. If you still use 1.4, I strongly recommend you and everybody else a update to the latest version.

Quote from Foxhound3857:

I guess this won't ever happen as long as someone can pull off a hotarubi. This hack is just too hard to be beatable without savestates.
The other problem is, nobody can proof that he never used savestates.

Also good luck for Draygon!
I have tried both Draygon and Ridley without save states and so far no luck with those.... they both require some unique luck and reflexes to succeed. Draygon requires very good reflexes and Ridley requires some luck and skill to make him execute the same attack patterns a few times in a row. The rest of the LN is no childs play either.

About that x-ray thinking.... I have already covered most of those areas and thoughts and still no luck. I think I will wait for the big bulb to light above my head, that is the only way to go here. Unfortunately I have no time to search that x-ray nor perform any speedruns, so this all is pretty much up to you (everyone else here :P ). I have some great ideas still left but I wont be bothered writing them here, they really are not such a big deal after all, I think. I was even wrong about the PB expansion trick in Red Brinstar.

...anyone else drunk tonight? :D grin new

EDIT: Oh, and Foxhound3857, you can get up the big Maridia snail room, just use the snails with climbing and go kick Botwoons arse and continue!
