Wow. I just realized I never did watch all of cardboard's other any% run.

I'll have some impressions in a bit, after work.

Edit: very impressive improvement over his last run. There's only one major difference, in that the first gamma metroid of ruins 4 (right when you're entering the ruins) is taken care of on the way out instead of the way in to allow full use of the tunnel to minimize time not traveling. The biggest speed improvement along the route comes in ruins 2, using the double-bump-jump off the 2nd spiny to get on top of the building, rather than a single-bump-jump with a bomb sequence following. The rest of the traveling speed improvements are much shorter, but most of it comes from a much more frequent use of the corner-drop and more optimized spider throwing (most of which, unfortunately, is impossible in a real-time run).

Most of the time is saved by highly optimized metroid fights. For alphas and gammas, most of this is accomplished by using the trick of keeping the metroid above you, forcing a much shorter recoil length. It also allowed for luck manipulation, forcing the metroid in the direction of exit. The two "left-room" omegas in the final area were sped up by immediately luring them to the exit, during the time while you're waiting for the omega to go into its movement. I'll have to keep this trick in mind. Zetas saw little improvement except for the 2nd one, where the fight was brought into the tunnel quicker than before, and missiles were shot closer, allowing for less down-time waiting for the missiles to connect.

Considering his previous TAS was already impressive, it's hard to believe that this new run is over a full minute faster. Kudos, cardboard.
