Commonly referred to as "Late Brinstar". I tested it when all the route things were happening, and it came out to almost no difference, I think it was ~2 seconds slower (?). Basically, do whatever you feel comfortable with, if you're already grabbing long beam early definitely do this route.

Okay thanks. I think i´ll use that route in future normal mode runs. And yeah i always grap longbeam early.

This route is also much easier. I really hate those bomb jumps and i am slow bomb jumper so this route will save my time i think. Hardmode runs this route not seems very useful because there is very limited amount energy and missiles. Normal mode this route working very well.
Dropping these here.

How consistent is the second video? I might consider trying that instead, it looks a lot cooler than the SBJ and seems a bit faster too... although in a speedrun, i'd be really low on health so a damage boost might not be a good idea :S

also I made these three videos for 100% route comparisons, for newer players:

Read the info and let me know if there's anything important missing! Thanks!

(also, exactly how much slower is early ice beam? I forgot...)

It's fairly consistent, right up there with the diagonal ball jump bomb jump... so not the easiest thing, but very doable with a little practice. The only really important part is timing the jump towards the Super: you wanna jump just when the red thing reaches the edge of that rocky looking platform.

Also, yeah, this does take a little bit of health. If you do the setup exactly as shown in the video, that's 24 damage. You can avoid the lava dragon damage with a jump (8 damage), but that changes the setup a little bit, since getting hit by that is actually used to manipulate the bug to come up a little bit higher, which is important.

Is anyone try routing hardmode runs? Its might be interesting see some runs on 100% hard mode too. I think HBJ route save a lot more time on hardmode because acid worm take a lot more time on hard than normal mode. Though you need some missiles against Kraid and probably long beam early is useful on hardmode. What ever i personally cannot make that fucking HBJ. But this look there is some guys who are really consistent with this. Its might cool see some hard mode runs too.

I'll probably do a few random hard mode 100% runs for fun, though not too seriously.

The main turnoff from it are the forced refills and detours in chozodia, because you only have 1 PB at a time, and you can't get any PB drops anywhere in chozodia outside of refills, so that would just be freaking dumb and annoying.

Yeah, HBJ would save more time in hard mode. You'll probably have 16 missiles at max against kraid which is reeeeeally iffy, and probably not enough to reliably 2-round him, but it's still enough to kill him pretty quickly

Optimal way to refill at item stations. Part of the refill duration is buffered inside the text box, so, this saves a textbox's worth of time (something like 80-90 frames). Pretty tough to do, but you don't really lose time trying... unless you fail breaking the orb.

Also, for 100% this'd mean mainly Ice Beam, Space Jump and Gravity Suit refills.

:( not useful for AWS YOLO route... :(

(unless I get unlucky with super drops before tourian... LONG BEAM REFILL FTW)
