I am going to be getting MPH soon now that I have a DS to play and I'd like to play online as soon as I can. I heard that you need a router to play online at home. I'm not really sure if the thing i have is a router or not though. I am at school right now so when I get home i'll find out for sure. But I also heard that you can connect your DS to the computer by USB. I also know you can go to a place like McDonalds or Tully's coffee to play but I don't feel like going allll the way over there just to play online. Please give me suggestions on what to do. I'll find out when i get home if the thing i have is a router.

And, um, what exactly is your question?
everybody knows it's true
USB connectors are 35$ at any cool store.

The USB Connector is just a slightly cheaper wireless access point that only works with nintendo devices (both DS and wii)
Waaaaaaa i want insanity
and you have to disable firewalls and virus protection while it is plugged in. (Which Sucks)

You have to do that for most any peer style networking (games like warcraft III and most RTS games), unlike client-server type apps.

Uh... no you don't.
in a way, opening any ports could be termed 'disabling a firewall'.

Still doesn't explain the virus one though.

You do in order to host the games, otherwise none of the other players will be able to join.

so nintendo would say that for no reason.

Oh, really. So why wasn't I able to host War3 games, age of empires games, starcraft games, etc. etc. while I was at university? That didnt have ANYTHING to do with firewalls and routers. [/sarcasm]

It is well-known that the style of networking these games use don't get along well with firewalls and nasty router configurations.

Well I can totally turn it around. I've hosted games with the dongle right now with the firewall up and stuff. Are they actually imaginary inviso games in my mind? MY LIFE IS A LIE!

Nah mate you're probably right just nintendo marked it out very clearly and i don't want to risk screwing up my computer.  grin new
Meh, it won't do anything to your computer, worst case scenario is that you just can't go online with the DS.

Though turning the anti-virus/firewall off can do stuff to your computer >_>. Well okay not really, but it makes it easier for other people to do stuff.
