NBMB?

Has anyone ever attempted to beat the game without defeating Ridley or Kraid? I'm trying now and this is the route I've come up with, but I'm not sure if it can be faster:

Maru Mari
Lower Brinstar Missile Tank
Enter Norfair
5 Missile Tank Cluster
Brinstar Ice Beam
Bombs
Tourian

Kill 3 Zeebetites
Reload
Kill 2 Zeebetites
Break Jar, 8 Shots on Mother Brain
Reload
Break Jar, Kill Mother Brain
Escape

Any faster ideas?

Also, I've heard you can enter Tourian using the Rio without bombs and just taking damage, but I've never been able to pull it off.

That definately looks like the fastest route possible.

Oh, and the Rio freeze thing isn't TOO difficult... in fact, I found that the hardest thing was getting it into the room. But it must be a bitch to nail it in a speed run.

NBMB is about collecting as many items as you can without fighting bosses, which is either every item except the Energy Tank after Ridley, and the Energy Tank in Kraid's room, unless you are allowed to collect it then leave.

So you have to collect everything else for it to be a true NBMB.

how do you get past the yellow door in touran? my brother and i (when we were young) thought we were badass to freeze the rio and get into touran early but when we got to the yellow door we couldn't open it. this is on the console, and long ago...we never really tried again and gave up on it. figured you had to defeat kraid and ridley.

I think the damage to the door is erased if you leave rooms. Maybe that was it? Or did you try to kill the metroids before realizing you could freeze them, at which point you had less than 10?

i really don't remember, all i remember is i couldn't get past the door, possibly a glitch, possibly i didn't have enough missles i don't remember it well i was probably 7 or 8 (11 years ago at least)...but if you guys say you can get past, i'm sure next time i 'cheat' my way into tourian i could get in. though it probably would have been cool getting in back then.

i'm still trying to recreate the 'beat the game with 2 items' trick, i just can't get the door jumping to work well on my GBA, though i had an interesting glitch where i went into that room (in norfair where you need bombs) to the left where you door jump but the graphics didn't change over from the shaft so i was experiencing the lava and everything while the room looked like the shaft. Samus was on the screen and everything, wish there was a way to record video off of the GBA, it would have been something interesting. (I was using the metroid port on Zero Mission).

If you have a GameBoyPlayer you can play it on Gamecube and record it with a VCR. That's how most runners do it. I was gonna record a both boss two item run, but Kraid and the rinkas both suck, so I dunno how far I can go. Farthest I've gotten was the last zebetite (I saved a pw in the beginning of Kraid's area).
