When the doors don't open up right away in Prime, it's because the next room isn't done loading yet. I guess Other M was being courteous by actually saying 'now loading'.

I think I've noticed that the doors open faster in the trilogy version, probably due to the wii being more powerful than the cube.  MP3 on the other hand, is an abomination in load-time hell.

Time bomb set get out fast!
Yeah, Other M is the first Metroid game where none of the doors are opened by weapons fire. (Return of Samus is disqualified for having no doors at all.) IMO, that was a good move. The door-shooting gimmick got old long ago; now you've just gotta wonder what sane builder would design those things, and the attempts to justify it in Prime's scan data got stupider each game. In a game with the Speed Booster, automatic doors are a no-brainer; it's a pity that Super didn't have them.

Hmm... was the NES Metroid the only one where all the doors were shoot-type? Super Metroid had automatic doors on Ceres, Fusion had those barriers that raised after Navigation Room chats, I think ZM had a couple on the Mother Ship...

Lots of doors require a missile or super missile or powerbomb or seeker missiles to open. But that only needs to be done once in each case.

it really says now loading in the doors on other M? never saw that...

i love my HDD ^^

PS: the doors on the prime games open instantly now too ^^ just checked and at most, i needed to wait more or less 1 second
It only says that when it needs a little extra time, which is rare.
Not as rare as you'd think if you get through a room fast enough. I've seen the "now loading" message pop up pretty often.
I like turtles.

It had a couple of missile doors, but there were no regular ones.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I even had some occasional freezing in rooms, while it said 'loading'.
I like to go fast!
I get the "now loading" quite frequently when I'm running thur doors. Although it takes a couple of tries to get the game to read right when I turn on the Wii. So it could just be that, (no pun intented) my Wii needs to be cleaned.
No, I've gotten that too.  Sometimes it just pauses while it loads.

lol no way
I would rather stand in front of a closed door... though not for speedrunning, I guess. Probably speedbooster made that necessary, but it fits the game's presentation anyway. I noticed if you run against certain objects which Samus will slide past without you changing the direction on the dpad, she'll slow down a bit but it'll still add to the booster charge. Sometimes I'll be running at a door and it won't open, so I'll get a moment of charge in already, it'll freeze for a split second with "Now loading..." - and then it'll open and unfreeze.
Still, I prefer to feel like the door's malfunctioning and still be in control of Samus, to a blur and "now loading". I was always so proud the metroid games never had loading screens...

Then you were fooling yourself, my friend. That's what the elevators have always been.

Turtle and Tahngarthor: I wasn't counting things you just break open one time. Those are barriers, not doors. What distinguishes Return of Samus is that there's never a real door underneath.
Elevators are still better than sitting on a blank/frozen screen and seeing "now loading" somewhere on it.

I definitely agree, I'd rather have a 10 second elevator ride than a 10 second blank screen.  I think this game might run on Retro's engine, but is tweaked in some places.  3 rooms are almost always loaded at once (the room you're in, and the 2 closest rooms you're near).  Other M doesn't have a shoot to open mechanic, it's just a 'get near it, it opens' and while that works, it does cause some problems.

One thing I've noticed in terms of loading, is that once you speedboost the game puts emphasis on the doors only in the direction you're running.
I've only received "Now Loadings" once when speed boosting towards a door.

I actually got a now loading by going to the lower part of the one room with the spark pirates. With the drain.

EDIT: No door.

i don't think that thing is a pirate...

at least, the artwork seems completely diferent...
I just ran into a ton of Now Loading spots when I was finishing up my speedrun (from the start of Sector 1 where you're following the Deleter all the way to the end escape sequence) so it doesn't seem to matter where you are if you're moving too fast. Sometimes I was in the middle of the room, sometimes at the door, once in mid speed boost, etc. It didn't seem to care. Although I also had a time where it said Now Loading and let me keep moving, which was surprising.

So it's either my disc was having trouble, or else the game simply can't load fast enough to keep up with a speedy playthrough.

best thing you do, is buy a HDD and get USB loader, if wonderful for speed runners, moreso on prime...
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Prime Hunter: That's exactly what I was on about experiencing.  Random loading screens, completely unrelated to doors.  Doors were just more common loading screens.

I definitely don't think that would be allowed for records.

Probably.  I'm sitting here trying to figure out two things: what kinds of advantages could one give themself other than faster loading times, and how the verifier would know it was there.
If I was a verifier on the Escape Run, I'd know within in the first 10 seconds of the clock.

well, i am not sure on metroid other M, but i am sure that the time you wait until the door is open counts as game time, it's a bit unfair to leave something like that to luck...
