If he retconned the Chozo part of her background, he should be fired considering it's a HUGE part of her past.  My guess is he left that part open so people would buy other games to find out about her past or make a game devoted to her Chozo past.
Yeah, I think that's something that the fans would go insane over (more than we've seen with the reactions to Other M) if the developers decided to cut her time on Zebes being raised by the Chozo out of the Metroid backstory. It's arguably THE key moment in the Metroid lore as far as Samus is concerned. (Well, the raid by Ridley and then her time growing up on Zebes, I mean.)

As far as the makeup thing goes, yeah, as I said I was purely speculating on that part. It does make sense, it's just not something I have a lot of experience with so I wasn't entirely sure.
Just think if they made Samus look like a hag... no makeup, scraggly hair, etc... we would have difficulty explaining why they didn't make her look spiffy.

ANKOKU
No... we'd wonder who the hell was in Samus' power suit.

If the Chozo did use makeup, it would be the males that used it since male birds are the showy, colorful ones. Thus, Samus wouldn't have used it anyway.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I don't think THAT many fans would be angry at all if they cut out any part of Samus's history.  i think it's one of many 'nice to have's, but if we were offered a fantastic Metroid game, where samus was just plonked on a planet, with no real explanation as to why, and no back story, I think most people would still play it, and most probably wouldn't bat an eyelid over the 'missing' story.
After putting some things together, the story just hit a whole new side of creepy for me.  Just...ew man, ew.  I'm ignoring everything about the story except for the concepts that came out of it.  Just...wow.
Of course I made the hag comment purely in jest... I hope you guys are able to read what you wrote in this forum 20 years from now.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
I love how the title is "My ONLY complaint".

Also, I wonder what a chibi version of Metroid would be like (thinking of a game where Samus is young, raised by Chozo).

I'd buy that game...

Well, no, because that's more or less what happened with the original game and Prime, and look how those turned out. I'm talking about if, in a future game that includes story elements related to Samus' past, they completely retcon the fact that she spent any time with the Chozo at all. As in, they put something else in its place rather than simply ignore it like they did with Other M.

Yeah, that makes sense.  Best to avoid lengthy story, then. Wink
When you guys talk about the Chozo I think of the Rendezvous with Rama novels by Arthur Clarke - the builders are birdlike creatures of superior intellect, etc... I wonder if the guys at Retro read the books and incorporated some stuff into MP or even in the original game since the 1st novel was written in the early 70s.

I've read the first two of those, but I've never read that the humans figured out what built them.

Outside of the artwork, I believe this is 2 games Sakamoto has made where they ignore Samus' chozo past (Fusion and now Other M).

Honestly though, I'm beginning to hope for a retcon.  Maybe I'm seeing why they let it out the door.
Fusion didn't ignore Samus's chozo past completely. They mentioned it in the instruction manual IIRC and revealed that the Metroids were made by the Chozo.
Doesn't exactly say 'raised by bird people' though.

The gallery images from Zero Mission with Samus being raised by the Chozo were from Fusion originally, only in the Japanese version.

...twileks socialize like humans on star wars...
the same go for asaris on mass effect...

i would understand the lack of details, like gestures or attitude more like a chozo, but not a completely diferent person that can't even socialize with other humans anymore...

she stayed with chozo until 14~15 IIRC, then she was gone to serve on GF... from 14~15 to 25~30, it's a pretty good amount of time to fit in...
what about this approach... 2 new metroid games are made. One is released and at the end Samus dies (for real). The screen could show ...
if 100% success, the ... are followed by a teaser of genetic material being manipulated (or something) to let the players know that something big is coming. Game 2 is released a few months later (not years) and at the beginning some text can appear saying something to indicate a new millennium while Samus is being resurrected - and in her mind images flash by -- these images depict the true time-line from her past (some text could be inserted if necessary). this would clear the confusion, Metroid would have a clean slate and Samus could have her mojo back.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
what about starting over with a new main character? there should be more capable bounty hunters to deal with Metroids.

or maybe they could make Fusion Samus the main threat in a sequel and you have to bring her down since she's gone bonkers and wants to destroy the federation (from the fed's point of view). the only problem i see is a new person capable of using a power suit like samus but the universe is big so a way could be found around that.

The GF revives Ridley to kill Samus. But that doesn't go nearly as well as they would hope.

EDIT: And the funny thing is that that the Federation would probably do that, knowing how stupidly corrupt they are.
it just occurred to me that at the end of MP3 (with 100%) as Samus' ship warps out, a 2nd ship follows her. Is there any word that Retro is making another Prime, or even another game without the Prime in the title?

The theory is that that ship is Sylux's from Hunters, as it looks somewhat similar, but nothing has surfaced yet as to what that means sequel-wise. Retro is making Donkey Kong Country Returns right now.
There are way way too many youtube vids and discussions online over that damn ship.  Just google it.
Hm, GF resurrects Ridley and fuses him with Samus's DNA. 0.o
