I believe the ships are different in the 3 Prime games so it doesn't seem unreasonable that the suit is modified for each game. The one thing about the Other M suit that is different from the Prime suits is the color distinction (gold/copper and vibrant red) and how shiny (polished) it is.
Well there's a reason it's polished...

I don't quite remember Prime 2 or 3, but I thought at least the Varia Suit was the same in all the games. And yeah, her ship seems to change every time she uses it.

Look at the visor. That's the easiest noticed difference.
Ah yes, I vaguely remember the visor being a slightly different shape in almost every game.
Anywhere, everywhere
The shoulder balls are smaller in echoes and corruption, and there's green lines running down the legs, plus the visor change. In other m, the shoulders are smaller still, and most of the green lights from the primes are gone.

Actually, they're still there, just instead of neon lines or lights, they're green balls that... just sit there :/

isn't the other m suit designed to resemble the super one a bit? at least the colors gave me that impression.

it's no wonder that the model is completely different since the dev team was completely different.

Only in Metroid: Other M is polished armor a plot point.
The shoulders are a bit lower in Echoes and Corruption and the visor is different. but nevertheless, the same model basis
Samus looked best in Echoes.

Opium -- odd that you made the Echoes comment as I was thinking to say this earlier today... like you, I like Echoes a lot and will say in some respects it may be the best game. However, the thing that bothers me the most about the game (more so than the early dark and light beam) is how the developers goofed on her face... you know, how tenuous it is on most occasions. Her face looked better in MP1 and they fixed the problem in MP3.

In Other M, they did a great job with the face/faceplate. I would even go so far as to say that after Samus defeats the Zebesians and she walks back to the control center (in the Exam Center)... when you guide her down the steps in the control room and the cutscene takes over -- those few seconds of Samus walking and looking (not defeated) but weary -- she may look the best (think Prime) and the most "human" and at the same time looks like a formidable opponent to mess with.

OK -- this is my 2 cents

I never thought about her face that much.  I just think the suits (esp varia) look better in echoes.  It was an improvement over Prime in the sense that it was more detailed and the color/texture looked better.  MP3 tried to slim her down and make her suit look more feminine or form-fitting, and it just didn't work.
But, if you wanna talk about the face, I never understood why they gave her make-up?!  Does she sit in her ship saying: "I'll be out in a minute, just gotta put on my face."  I can't picture her applying foundation, mascara, lipstick, etc in preparation for space travel and combat.  That's beyond retarded.  She's a fairly young attractive specimen, she doesn't need it to look good anyways.
Who would she put it on for anyway? Anthony? Adam? It's not like there are many options based on what we've seen of her social life. And yeah, even after her personality from Other M I don't see Samus as one who'd put on make-up so that she would feel better about herself. (Not that I know anything about this, to be honest. Pure speculation on my part.)
Both of your comments are good -- however, as I said on page 10 of the Disappointed thread how I am older than you... trust me here, just like guys like to lift weights - regardless if anyone is around, women like to look good no matter what. I've been married longer than you have been on Earth so take my word for it. Ask your parents. Anyway, more to the point, it is a nice touch that the developers added even if it seems silly. Unless Nintendo was expecting a female audience to play - come to think of it, I would expect more female input. On the MP forum - what ever happened to the player DAT? She has some real skill.

As for not noticing her face in Echoes... I'm not looking for it but when I started playing the game in 2007, it was one of the first things I noticed; that is, how much clearer her face is in MP.
One shall stand, one shall ball.

Is it weird that I actually liked the more muted, metallic look of the Prime's suits? I get the impression that it is. I would actually agree that in general the Varia model looked better in Echoes, reducing the gargantuan shoulder pads was probably the best possible change, but the color always seemed odd to me. That and the weird notch at the top of the visor, wasn't there in Prime and I'm not sure why it is in Echoes but it always looked a bit goofy to me.

Prime 3, though, definitely bungled the whole thing. That thing was just... it was a thing.

I understand your comment about women wanting to look good, but in terms of makeup I think it is a product of our culture.  Samus was raised by chozo, isolated from other humans and their cultural influences.  Unless chozodian culture has instilled makeup as a norm, I don't think it makes sense that she would be programmed to put on her face every day.  In short - I don't think we can compare her to the earthly females that we all know.
...Are there any female chozo at all? I couldn't find a mention of any female chozo. Maybe thats why they can't reproduce...

Behold major Chozo boobage:

EDIT:  oops, nevermind.  That's a Torizo.  Forget I exist.

EDIT2:  actually if you think about it, the Chozo are a very advanced race compared to humans.  It's like comparing ants to humans.  Their advanced technology is like ancient shit to them, something they could take for granted even.  They have advanced to the point of existing on other planes.  It seems totally implausible that a race that advanced would adopt such an impractical custom as applying make-up.  Heck, if they thought that eyeliner was attractive, they would just alter their DNA to make themselves have it there as a physical trait, and they'd probably do that using thought.

True enough but she was pals(?) with Adam and who is the guy in the photo that they show maybe twice... Adam's brother? He has his arm around her - right? Plus she was in the army surrounded by guys. Maybe the whole purpose of her looks is because of Anthony (calling her Princess and that he wants to see her pretty face).

On a more serious note, it is interesting that Kohl was used in the Middle East beginning in the early Bronze Age.
I really goofed up on Opium's quote... I'll pay more attention.
I complained about it in another thread, but the whole fact that samus is all socialized in Other M as if she grew up with humans is just one of many stupid inconsistencies in their portrayal of her.
Well who knows, maybe the Chozo were social too. Besides, she was in the GF for a while, so maybe she became social then?
Perhaps, but I just find it hard to swallow that someone who was raised by aliens on an alien planet and was even infused with their DNA would have behavior that was indistinguishable from everyone else's.

it wouldn't surprise me if certain parts of her past were retconned to make other m's new stuff fit in.
