Hello! I really love all the Metroid runs you offer, but have problems with my 3ivx MP4 decoder. After 30 days of use, I have to buy something. Is there a free MP4 decoder available on the internet? I do not use QuickTime since I hate that player second most next to RealPlayer.

I'm sorry if this is asked here before.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, the only decent freeP4 player/decoder is precisely Quicktime. I don't like it either, but not because of grudges, but because it consumes too many memory resources at system startup, but I've been forced to use it to watch the runs correctly.

funny how rapidly things go to hell when people are primarily concerned with making money.
I quite honestly just dislike MP4s and wish that you would stick to the much more accessible AVI files.
I know that on a technical standpoint, MP4's are the way to go, but quite honestly, they just don't run on my computer in a decent matter, and because i also have no sort of emulation device on my comp either, the ways for me to view the runs seem to be getting slim.

3vix dissapears after 30 days? shoot.  I can't use quicktime at ALL for mp4's, it goes by at 1 frame a second.  3vix through windows media classic,  takes the normal 30 frames a second and speeds it up to roughly 100 frames.. though that is vastly entertaining, its also not how i would want to watch them.

Of course, I've bitched about this quite a bit already.
How can a codec expire!
And if it does i'm sure there's a way around it.  I've been using my 30 day free trial of Paint Shop Pro for over 1000 days.
I have RealPlayer Quicktime and WMP. I only use RP and QT for their own filetypes. For everything else I use Windows Media.
I use Quicktime for everything, and I got no problems.  Then again, I am using a Mac. Wink

yeah, was just thinking about this earlier. but it's like, what can i do, you know, besides recommending everyone who enjoys this site buy a mac so the videos can kick ass.

i guess the videos wouldn't be the only things that would be better, though.
I use Zoomplayer for all types of media. It has a bar which increases / decreases speed to get rid of those annoying increases in fps, which makes the video play twice as fast.

I do agree that the video's could be done better in divx / xvid, because most people don't have problems with that.

Well, for now I just have to watch the video's without sound 8'(

I just found out on something that will make quite a few people happy here... ;)

Do a Google search on the Real Alternative Codec. I downloaded the full Kazaa Lite Codec Pack that included this jewel. If you download the full pack, it comes with codecs that allow you to play literally any media format on wmplayer.exe and mplayer2.exe (both can be called from the Run... prompt by inputting their file names). Download them, you'll thank me. ;)
Thanks. I downloaded it and installed it (complete except for WMP because I already have it), but when I open the mp4, it's still played by the 3ivx codec. Do I have to uninstall it and connect it to the QT alternative?

Yes. The codec pack needs you to uninstall all related programs and codecs, so it associates itself with all related media types.
Hmmm... I can't do that, it will take me AGES to get all codecs working again (have ptoblems all the time with them).

However, I found a way to use 3ivx as long as you want. Once it expires, uninstall it (via it's uninstallation program or by using WinXP's 'software list.' Then go to Start > execute (translation from Dutch Windows, could have a different name in English version) and typ REGEDIT. Browse to MY COMPUTER (also translated) > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software. Delete the 3ivx folder here.

Now install 3ivx again, and you'll have another 30 days.

Note: don't do anything else in REGEDIT if you don't know EXACTLY what you're doing there, you can really ruin your Windows installation.

On an English computer, "execute" is "Run". Everything else is exactly the same.

Heheh. Playing with regedit is like playing with fire. I know it's dangerous, and I know it's not worth it, but it's so much FUN! Twisted Evil

I once found a "time untill services shut down" entry. I wonder what will happen if you change that.

That's why I've been adament in sticking with .mpg's on my site.

I can compress them (with sound) at just under 90k per sec and still get pretty decent quality playback.

And it'll play on practically ANY PC or MAC without a care in the world at full speed.

DivX/XviD may have better compression, but at the end of the day, accessability is what I'm most concerned about. And the filesizes are MORE than managable in .mpg format also...
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)

Aha, me too, but I had to clean my comp and the counter reset after 1100 days or so. :/

Shocked Cool! How do you do it?
MegaMika

Zoomplayer will play the .mp4's from this site if you go into options, settings, and uncheck "Use the Internal Audio Processing DSP Filter" and check "Use Custom Audio Device" and select your sound card.  When you start a file for the first time, it will play fast again (at least with the 3ivx decoder Rolling Eyes ), but simply pause and wait for the program to catch up and play again, and the video will be playing normal speed with sound!
