How very interesting. I must try this.
Arg... these rules are hard to make up. If we can agree on something good, I will most likely start on a morph ball run and record it.
I was thinking about the rules, for boss fights, you could say that, unless it was possible to defeat the boss without exiting morph ball form, you could come out of the morph ball, but not move as Samus.  So if you needed to blow away the thing in the shell with the X-Parasite or whatever it's called, you could come out of your morph ball to shoot it, but not run around as Samus.  You could even say that you had to be ducked as Samus, although that's a little irrelevant.

*first post  "woo!"*
Welcome KirbyCubed! I rethought the rules and came up with this:

Count the number of upgrades and health/ammo expansions
Count the number of spaces you visited (the highlighted squares on the map)
Dont worry about time, but dont make it too long either

Heres what I came up for bosses, which is the best thing I can think of:

Beat the boss while in morph ball the whole time gets you 50 points (The amount of points could be changed depending on how it works)
Beat the boss while only being out of morph ball for less than 30 seconds gets you get 40 points
60 seconds gets you 30 points
90 seconds gets you 20 points
2 minutes gets you 10
over 2 minutes: no points

Add everything together when you beat the game and the higher the score, the better. Please tell me if you know a better way.
That might work.  Although, I'm not sure if this is what you meant in the first part or not, if it were impossible to beat the boss without being out of the morph ball, then something would have to be arranged.

How about:
If the boss was possible to beat while in morph ball mode:

1. Beat the boss while in morph ball the whole time gets you 50 points
2. Beat the boss while only being out of morph ball for less than 30 seconds gets you get 40 points
3. Between 30 and 60 seconds gets you 30 points
4. Between 60 and 90 seconds gets you 20 points
5. Between 90 and 120 seconds gets you 10
6. Over 120 seconds gets you no points

Or if the boss was impossible to beat without being out of your morph ball:

1. Beat the boss while out of morph ball between 0 and 30 seconds gets you 50 points
2. Between 30 and 60 seconds gets you 40 points
3. Between 60 and 90 seconds gets you 30 points
4. Between 90 and 120 seconds gets you 15 points
5. Over 120 seconds gets you no points

Or you could just time up the entire time you were out of your morph ball for for the entire playthrough, and you'd be going for the lowest time possible.  Either way would work, but the latter would be easier for rules because you would have to come up with out of boss fight rules as well, if you decided to go by points.
Actually, if you wanted to go with the point system, you could just have it that for every one or two seconds you were out of your morph ball, you could have one point deducted.  And you could earn them some way... That'd be a challenge to figure out...  Hmmm...  Maybe every minute you were in the morph ball could be a point...

KirbyCubed, please do not double post. Just edit your previous post in the topic if you have something else to add.
Okay, I don't get it. You pretty much posted the same thing as me and what do you mean by "if the boss was impossible to beat without being out of your morph ball:"? Isnt that like the same thing? And every minute being in the morph ball would definately not work because I could just sit there racking up minutes in the morph ball. I think we need more people's opinions.
Going the other direction makes most sense to me -- count the time OUT of morphball, lowest time "wins".  Don't really need points, just seconds.

Why didn't I think of this before? I will start on a run probably next weekend. The movie will have to be timed once its done, though.
Will the time before you get the morph ball count?
I thought about that, and I thought we souldn't because this is your skills in the morph ball, not exactly your speed running skills so I say no.
Forgive the bump.

But since Fusion was the only game I managed to get onto my emulator at school, I've been looking for challenges on it.  Long story short, I did a 100% speed run and a 1% run at school.  So I needed something new to try.

Then I saw this.  And I decided to start.  I'm taking VMV & VMO movies of my Morph Ball run, and I'll post 'em as they come in.  I'm doing this in segments (Of course) and each segment ends at the death of a boss, and starts at the absorbtion of the Core-X.

I've got "To Arachnus" segment done.  And then it gets tricky, because you get the Morph Ball and the run actually begins.  Crap.  :?

So I'm actually starting the Morph Ball run after Arachnus.  I expect the run to get easier after I actually get the "Jumpball" upgrade, as I'll be able to move from platform to platform without having to demorph.  If anybody has a method of using Bombs to actually climb in height, I'd love to see it to make the portion between Bombs and "Jumpball" have more ball time.  Say those last two words out loud in front of your mother...
Rolling Eyes

Here are the requirements I've placed upon myself for this run:

1.)  Of course, stay in Morph Ball as often as possible.  If there's a way to get past an obstacle in Morph Ball form, do so.

2.)  If you can kill it with either kind of bombs, then kill it with bombs.

3.)  I plan on collecting all items, so this will be a 100% Morph Ball run.

4.)  This isn't going to be a speed run, AT ALL.

5.)  Boss fights (Excluding Nettori, because we can kill him with repeated Power Bombs) are going to fought in normal mode.  Attempt to stay in Morph Ball mode as often as possible during a boss fight?  Screw that.

And that's all I got.  Like I said, I'll be posting the videos as I complete each segment.  And it'll be in VMV and VMO format, site hosting the video segments for download will be my favorite, QuickDump.

This is all, folks.  Have fun laughing at what little Fusion skillz I have once I give you the videos for watch.  That is all.

P.S.--For those of you that want to try a Morph Ball run, I have one piece of advice.  When you're getting off an elevator, walk off the elevator, then morph.  I must've gone up and down this one elevator, like, five times because I tried to morph while standing on the elevator.  Stupid DeathNoble...

spin jump off the elevators and morph?
...  Crap.  Didn't think of that.  But yes, it would be a better solution...

I'm also going to edit that post to add something else to it:  6.)  Standing and jum;ping to collect free-flying X to restore helath is permitted.  Because there were a few times when I needed some health bad and so I demorphed and jumped to grab the X.
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
Man, that just sounds lame. If you don't absolutely need to do it, then you shouldn't be able to do it! Maybe there's a few portions in the game where you need to collect free floating missle X, but...
:?  Not like I grabbed it for fun.  I actually needed the health.  I had just gotten the Missile expansion in the lava on the far left side of sector SRX.  So I was sorta hurting afterwards.  Anyways, I'm redoing that section of my run, as it sucked.  I do still plan on getting the Missile in the lava, but maybe this time I won't grab any health.  I'll just go until I get to the boss door and let the red X fill me up.  Anyways, here's the first part.

DEATHNOBLE EDIT:  Removed the vids on the account of they weren't working.  I know what the problem is.  I will restart the run from scratch and upload working vids once I have them.  Stay tuned.

Why can't you bomb jump? Sure it'd be hard to time, but it can't be all that bad, can it?
Haven't even gotten to the Bombs section of the run yet.  I'm still working on the "To Fake Chozo" segment.  I keep accidently running after jumping.  You really have to train yourself not to do things...  Like walk.
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
Yeah, not walking takes a lot of practice, huh?
Edit-bump.

Hey!  It does!  Those little platforms in the fake Chozo's room?  Alright, imagine jumping onto one of those, but to get onto the one above you, you have to get to the end of the platform to jump and even grab the ledge of the upper platform.  Do you have any idea how hard it is to morph into a ball just for maybe two Samus widths?  This run has a few stupid parts, like that for instance.  It's pure  Evil or Very Mad !

I know this is a bit late, but I guess the thing with the reasoning of unmorphing because you really had to grab health is like saying you really needed to put the varia on in a suitless run because you were dying...except you can't, so you die.  The morph ball restriction should be treated as if you don't have the ability to unmorph, except in those instances where the game requires actions which aren't possible morphed, like missile blocks.

However, if it were "scored" by number of seconds spent unmorphed, then that would just be a built-in penalty for doing it.
Alright, by popular demand, there will be no standing to nab floating X.  I will simply wait until I get a recharge room.

But on a note, if it's a red X, I'm after it.  No matter what.  'Cuz those things are...  Well, ya'll know what red X do.

Double Edit:  Good, the problems with the vids are now fixed.  Good news folks, these vids work.  Yay.

Or you could just not suck until you get the Jumpball.

Or I could have not started Morph Balling everywhere until after I got the Spring Ball like originally discussed in this topic, but I chose to start right after Arachnus because I thought it would be more interesting to viewers.

Or you could not be wrong about Fusion stuff, like Ice/Diffusion Missile strengths.  http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3441&start=50 Rolling Eyes
