why is everyone so crazy bout Kraid? okay, he was one of the bosses in Metroid1 and in SM he was really huuuge, but i think Ridley's way cooler, and i prefer focussing on one character really, instead of doing two just good (or even worse).
apart from ZM where both has to be in it, it is also not very *cough* realistic (in a "metroid" sense of the word ;)) that the pirates developed both further!?
I voted no. Don't get me wrong, Kraid's a good boss. He just isn't the timeless classic that is Ridley (that, and if they don't put Kraid in any more games, the can't Fusion him). The fact is, Metroid bosses are by definition cool, but Kraid's getting a bit old and boring now. He needs to move aside and make way for new, innovative bosses.
Considering that Ridley's the one who's been in every single Metroid game but one, and Kraid's only been in two, I find it hard to understand why it's Kraid and not Ridley who's becoming old and boring.
Meh. Maybe Ridley's getting a bit boring too. The point is, nearly every Metroid boss I've faced (I've completed Fusion and Prime, and done about half of Super and Classic), has had some imagination put into their design. They do different things, you need to beat them in different ways. Kraid, however, will forever be the huge fat dinosaur you have to climb up platforms than shoot in the face. Where's the imagination in that? To a degree, that's true for Ridley as well, despite the fact that Meta Ridley was new and inventive. I should rephrase what I said before. Kraid's not getting old and boring. To me he's always been boring. I appologise, but I don't think Kraid has anything going for him apart from the "whoa, that's big!" factor, and that only works once for me. To be honest, the only reason I'm letting Ridley off the hook is he looks cool and he's at least hard to beat. Usually.
Maybe Ridley and Kraid's status as Metroid legends is enough to forgive them for being boring fights. Maybe I just really don't like Kraid, and I'm letting that get in the way of my better judgement. I'm just giving my opinion, that's all.
Consider, if you will, what kraid would look like in a 3D game. You you really think he would sit there, shoot pieces of himself at you, and wait for you to shoot him in the face? I'm sure there would be some sort of challenge. After all, we're not dealing with a 2D plane anymore. I'm sure he would at least spin around.
By the way, how many times has kraid been big? In the original he was as big as ridley.
Kraid in ZM was actually not just *misslemisslemisslemisslemisslemissle*. I'm impressed. Of course, it wasn't much, but I still got confused and spent 8/9ths of my first attempt on him trying to figure out how to open his mouth. I definetly think this points to the viability of another 2D Kraid.
2D Ridely, on the other hand.... someone give him the same shot they gave him in 3D. You know, the interesting shot.
The problem with Kraid is that he's a major fatass, which makes him more or less immobile. Yeah, he's important as the 3rd in command of the Space Pirates, but you don't see the pirates recreating him when Samus rips him a new one.
Imagine if he'd been in Prime, that just wouldn't have worked at all. Even so, I do like Kraid and it would have been cool if they'd thrown him into Fusion. He just seems to be too ingrained in 2D for a 3D translation to work and he's not as interesting as Ridley; not enough to warrant a recreation in every 2D Metroid game.
Though, I'd be interested to know who's commanding the Space Pirates in the Fusion and post-Fusion Metroid era, perhaps there is a recreated Kraid somewhere behind the scenes.

i just kinda shot him in the face and he opened his mouth, then i shot him in the mouth a couple times and he died.. same exact thing i did for super, shot him in the eyes, he opened his mouth, few missiles in the mouth and hes dead.
I don't remember shooting in the eyes in SM. I just remember him opening it randomly just because. Besides, A: Things get interesting when he starts pwning platforms and B: I had the same problem here that I did with the missle doors in the NES Metroid, I hit it once and it didn't seem to work. I spent my whole first 3/4 of a try trying to get him to expose himself. I even shot his stomach a zillion times because it made a flash.
Nintendo could recycle dandruff! More Kraidey-ness, I say. I think he could be brought into 3D and it'd work.
Kraid works pretty much the same in ZM only he's on the left and can be wasted just about as quickly with normal missiles as he was Supers in SM. I employed the exact same tactics I used in Super (opening his mouth with charge shots or missiles to the eyes) the first time and from then on just fed him a nice fat missile buffet at the beginning of the fight.
I vote no because I want new bosses! ridley is cool and works very well in 3D so he can stay. But for the rest the bosses i liked best in MP were OP and thardus. I want more new bosses like those two!
