This might be good for a first attempt, I dunno. I don't know Photoshop.
I do know, however, what lightsabers are "supposed" to look like. The moving purple on seems quite off to me, the way the motion is done. Also, the lightsaber is bent. It's not pointed in the same direction as the handle; it's more horizontal.
The purple sabre's light trail is a bit off, it should be a tad more uniform if she's swinging it at the other guy, it looks like the top of the sabre moves seperately from the rest of it. If you're swinging diagonally the trsil would curve, if swinging downwards the trail would be a fairly straight line the bottom wouldn't seperate from the rest of the trail it looks like she tips the sabre forward a bit, then steps slightly forward, which doesn't make sense to me.
I don't think there should be that much of a trail, period. And the trails seem way too dark to me.
The darkness was sort of touched upon by GM, but he was talking more about the opacity I guess. But you are right, I was more going for pointing out how the trail should look if you are to have that much of one.
Well, i have a better way. Check this site. And this video as a sample of what it can do. I know, it's not that good. But my skillz have grown since that.
Hey, wait. You didn't think that I did those movies on the website? If that's the case, then: NO! I didn't do them! I just googled for "Make your own star wars movies", and found that site. But the video i posted a link to, i did that.
Oh, okay, yeah, I did think you made those vids, judging by the "But my skillz have grown since that." part of your post. But still, it's a good find, and the videos are awesome.
OK, Here we go. I ajusted the see-throughie-ness, the purple saber, (got rid of the trail,) and lessend the lens flare. It DOES look a little better, don't it?
Animation is quite fun. At least the result. I'm using this instead (same site, easier way), and i'm using the polygonal lasso all the time. On the end of the saber, i'm not doing a sharp edge, i try to smooth it up a bit.
Right now i'm working on a movie with a two-year old baby (my cousin). He's so cute, swinging the sword around! ^_^
