Right, I'm fighting a losing battle here, but before I get completely massacred, I'm gonna make some points:

1.  Spine Shark:  I figured "follow[ing] rules" included not breaking them.

2.  Yoshi:  I thought a user's posting persona counted in the whole forum.

Retrospectively, my "full of" comment was probably a little exaggerated.

Also,

I almost completely agree, in the END it's nearly the same, but to get there you need to (I'm being metaphorical here, bear with me) cut holes, buy the best-fitting 3rd party part and stack a lot of stuff on it to get it to Mac status. Using your car analogy again, it's like taking a Ford Focus and turning it into a Rolls. Yes it can be done, no it's not easy or practical.

That sort of thing IS NOT helping your case.  What if I want to play a game that mac doesn't support?  What if I like the windows interface?  A better analogy is turning a Bentley into a Rolls or something along those lines.
I'll probably regret getting involved in this crazy argument later, but here goes...

People, if someone you know is constantly, frustratingly annoying exactly 99.9% of the time (which basically translates as them spending exactly 23.976 hours of one day being annoying) then you should let that person know, in whatever way you feel works best, unless of course said method involves breaking any laws or rules, in which case do something else.

As for Mac and Windows, who the hell cares? They both work fine in my view...

Yeah, well I think you're more right than I thought you were last night.  All rules are not created equal.  Rules for spam seem to be *cough cough*not always seriously enforced in the social boards, which on some level is kind of okay.  You can use a couple words in "leet" from time to time.

But I still think that the most important thing is that it's almost all subjective.  That's just how the system works.  People who have made valuable contributions, or have a good track record, get a little slack, as far as I can tell, on any forum.

Indeed, which is why this is probably the best system available at the moment, flaws and all.

These are both true in my eyes, if you seem to be a fairly good person and you make a mistake or two, the mods will go a little easier on you, generally because they know you can be good.  However, if all you do is spam, make off-topic posts and generally act inappropriate when you get to the forum, you'll probably end up on probation and get banned the second you do something else wrong.  This is not always the case, Radu and Klefmung (formerly mangadood when on probation and such) turned out all right and they were both on probation for awhile.

Also, I asked in the Rules forum, and it's ok to use 'leet' for a short burst ('woot' or such) in most places, but Toozin said it will make him hate you.

It is very much subjective. I mean, yes, we have the rules and the punishments for breaking them listed, but the mods might decide that a harsher or lesser punishment is needed for a certain offense, depending on the situation and whatnot. Which, yes, means that one user in one situation might get a slightly different punishment than another user in another situation. No, we don't pick out users and say, "oh, I like him; let's let all his rule-breaking go" or "hmm, I think I'll punish this user, just because", but if we know that a user is constantly breaking rules, we'll deal a harsher punishment.
Now, is this fair? Decide for yourself, but that's the way it is, and it works pretty damn well, imo.
If it's effective, why change it, right?

Didn't even think of doing that, since it's such a long discussion atm, but sure.

To everyone: I'm close to locking this topic, so I would suggest not flaming or spamming here. Intelligent discussion, please.

I was on a forum for a while where they did that.  They'd basically single out people, who'd get flamed until they got pissed off and left.  Flickerbatting MOB RULE.

I think it's awesome that mods here aren't just the people who read a lot and never post.  They really get into discussions and don't just parade around shining the "ooh, you better be afraid" card in people's faces.
One thing that kind of bothers me is how mods and admins will continue to chat on a newly-locked thread about things other than why it was locked or related adminy topics.  Sometimes it's a discussion that other people might contribute to, but that's not an option, and while I suppose one could make a new topic, there's a) a rule against cloning locked topics and b) something lost when you don't have the original context right there.  It just seems kind of rude to have conversation that the rest of the forum can see but not join in on; that's what staff boards are for.

And on the topic of rules reading, I compulsively read them even for boards I only lurk on and have no intention of joining.  Which means yes, I did read m2k2's rules long before joining because I couldn't imagine what I'd have to say on a board dedicated to a pursuit in which I am completely unable to participate. :P

I dunno, Toozin gives plenty of reason for people to be afraid of him...
Only if you're blatantly retarded.

fwiw, I agree with that, although it's not a characteristic exclusive to this place, it annoys me wherever it happens.
will avoid that in the future.

same goes for here, just the "mob" (believe you actually meant "minority") is fair to you more of the time.

Yeah, I guess that is true...
