I hate to say it, but the modding here is full of double standards.  TRH censor bypassed once, ffs, and Yoshi was the only one to (publicly) take him up on it.  Stuff like this really shouldn't happen.

I honestly didn't think anyone would care, or even notice. But I was proven wrong. And I regret what I did. In all honesty, I've thought a lot about how to improve the forums standards, both in higher quality posts and the rules. Which creates a dilemma, because I want the rules to be less picky with stuff, censorship amongst them, and still raise the bar.

It wasn't so much that I cared (I swear all the time), but that if a normal person had done that in the hostile way you did, they would probably have recieved a pretty severe warning, and possibly even a probation (though I can't really judge that).

For uncensoring 'no shit, sherlock'? Nah..

I take it that posting this would have been more acceptable.

They're two different things. You directly flamed him, and I don't care if you're kidding or not: some people take things like that seriously. It's difficult to judge who would be offended by that, so I don't let stuff like that go.

As for TRH's situation, that would merit a warning, imo.
izo, can you show me where a mod has posted simply "____ is a prick [or other derogatory term]" and gotten off scot free?
Armor Guardian
Izo called you a prick and got off scott-free. Although I doubt that counts because Izo's not a mod. >.>

What the fuck? Let's try to make posts that make sense and/or are actually true, capiche?

Lol, no, he did not say "Nate is a prick." "Oh, you prick" has a very different connotation, showing how facetious Izo was being.

Yeah, I don't even have to click that link to remember.  That was funny, not disrespectful.

Sarcastic or not, he still refered to Nate as a prick. >.>

Also, I suggest we get back on-topic. You should know that my usual tactic is to come up with increasingly facetious arguements until everybody gets annoyed and drops the subject.

No, see, you don't get it. It's not necessarily about what the user says; it's how they say it and what the context is. Izo's was clearly jocular. Yours was not.
Now, let's drop the subject, as that's all that needs to be said.

Also: facetious? This topic isn't facetious at all.

I never referred to this topic as facetious.

Well, your argument isn't either. >_>

Right, I've made this point poorly, but look at this:

Quote from Toozin:
Okay, I don't mind bypassing the censor to write legitimate words like Dickens, but if I ever see this little trick misused by anyone, they're gone within one heartbeat.

I got the impression from that that it was a pretty serious offence.

Also, Nate, I'd think that that Penny Arcade Yoshi posted was saying pretty much exactly what Artee said.  Obviously he was a bit more subtle, but tbh they're almost the same thing in my eyes.

Also, it doesn't help that USBCD was starting to get on a lot of people's nerves with his blatant Mac supremacist act.

However, this is not my forum, and in the end it's all up to you.

In the words of my 66-yr old Java teacher: "Macs are like Rolls-Royces: you just buy one for bragging rights, but in the end, it's the exact same car". :p I don't mind people commenting on their Macs every once in a while, but it can get annoying when abused.

Artee posted the link to "Aromatic" in this thread.  It's so great...though I only realized after it was used to say "Spine Shark is an asshole." (sig that and I will kick you)

Considering all the forums I've been on, only one had less of a "double standard" going on.  As certain members of this forum prove, there's a limit to how subtle sarcasm can reasonably be made.  The only way to tell what they mean, is by the example the member has made. If they're a mod, it's beyond obvious that they know and follow rules.  If it's Artee...that's much, much harder.

See, that's what I was getting near, and I completely lost faith with the whole "mods never break rules thing" when TRH censor bypassed (I never had much faith in it beforehand either, tbh).

What "mods never break rules thing"?
First of all, I'm a little pissed off, aren't forums supposed to be for expressing yourself and having discussions?

Second, sorry everyone if I don't like paint, I'll try not to be that weird about my computer preference, except…

Quote from DominicanZero:

I almost completely agree, in the END it's nearly the same, but to get there you need to (I'm being metaphorical here, bear with me) cut holes, buy the best-fitting 3rd party part and stack a lot of stuff on it to get it to Mac status.  Using your car analogy again, it's like taking a Ford Focus and turning it into a Rolls.  Yes it can be done, no it's not easy or practical.

Also, I said a few times that I'd like USB or USBCD36, but not anything in between.

Finally, if you have a bone to pick with me on my computer preference and how I'm expressing it, either IM me and we can duke it out there or just sit back and let the mods do their jobs.

I didn't say mods never break rules.  They're mods for a reason though, and nobody yells at Yoshi for posting the contents of his exploding head, for example.

Um... did I start something here?

Meh, look. When I posted that, I just felt that at that post, USB had crossed the line from being the resident militant Mac user to just being a snob. And I don't see her (it's her, right?) doing that here, really. Paint is okay and all and can do more than you'd think, but it's not that great. I don't think USB is a snob most of the time.

Mainly, my philosphy is, if you can't tell someone they're being annoying, then it gets a little silly, and tensions start to mount. But I tend to stress telling someone they're BEING annoying, rather than that they ARE annoying, unless they're just plain non-stop annoying. Hard part is, we've got 3 or 4 people here looking after the posts and we don't have all the same answers for the borderline questions that come up every so often when there's enough posts. Plus, sometimes I'm just like tired, or distracted or something. Maybe not an excuse, but...

You just couldn't look to the left and see that my gender is in my profile, could you Rolling Eyes

I think the last thing we left off with before this turned into one huge argument was Tickmeoff trying to create a desktop pattern, why don't we all try to forget this and help him, ok?
