heh yeah.  i think there needs to be centralized sw documentation somewhere...
Quote from UchihaSasuke:
yeah. the wiki isn't very helpful outside the SW list and even that is outdated.
Sounds to me...

people need to start updating/working on the wiki more, simple as that really. Or, maybe, make wiki pages for it on SDA's wiki. To centralize it more, with SDA's heightened profile and all.
Thread title:
Specifically, we could consider creating a Metroid Prime 1 page on SDA's Strategy Wiki. As you can see here Games listed on SDA Strategy Wiki there isn't even an entry yet for Metroid Prime 1.
i would be thrilled if someone ported all of the content from the prime 2 and prime 3 wikis to the sda knowledge base so i would have two less installations of that crap to support after i nix the server m2k2 and sda are on right now.

Hmmm... well... I suppose I could make an effort of that. What's the deadline on the SDA / Taiga integration?
don't know yet but if it doesn't happen by the end of this month then i will want it to happen by the end of next month. i don't want to rush it but the server m2k2 and sda are on is having a lot of trouble and i feel like i need to not put it off if at all possible either.
Well, if you feel like the Taiga integration is the proper course to remedy those issues then indeed it is something you shouldn't be putting off indefinitely. But, I'm the first to acknowledge the enormity of such an endeavour. Anyhow, I'll have a look on M2K2's own Wiki and see what kind of work that would be.

would probably take the least time to just manually copy and paste each page source. there aren't that many of them afaik.

Done some preliminary work on it:

http://speeddemosarchive.com/kb/Metroid_Prime_2:_Echoes
http://speeddemosarchive.com/kb/Metroid_Prime_3:_Corruption

Let me know what you guys think.

I plan to do just that, nate. But, with some manual formatting/editing/referencing of course. Referencing to other sections of the page if, for example, a technique mentions a different technique, etcetera, etcetera. Just so it's easier to use and all.
yeah, great. mostly when i said that i meant as opposed to ... other methods, like an automatic move, which wouldn't save much time if any, since i have no idea how to go about doing it and the problems that you mentioned would still need to be taken care of without further time investment in automating those changes.
Additionally, automated methods do not always work out so well to begin with. Depending on the donor source of information. It'll take some manual labour like this, but, I don't mind. Consider it a gift or some such, from the guy that cares about Metroid but stinks at playing it. Wink
well it's just saving me time which results in more nice stuff for everyone in the communities. what goes around comes around as they say.
always move fast
when i'm done with my run i can move info to the prime 1 wiki/add my own stuff.  if necessary i could also do echoes, but i'm sure my knowledge there doesn't expand beyond what's already in the wiki so i doubt i'd be able to add anything.
awesome. prime 1 doesn't have a lot of wiki attention atm. thanks, sparky.
Well, to be honest... I think you could have a lot to contribute, 'sparky. Especially because you have such an intimate knowledge of the game.
i don't think the prime 2 wiki was updated much after the main site section came out but i could be wrong. so it's possible it's really out of date. the question is whether it's worth it to anyone to bring it up to date.

incidentally i'm not opposed to replacing the main metroid 2002 site with the wiki but it would be a lot of work.
As far as I can tell the MP2 Wiki over here is massively out of date. But, getting that up to date isn't really a big issue. For one, there's MilesSMB, who, thanks to his endless running of MP2 has probably developed a better understanding of the game than anyone else.

yeah just looked at the echoes wiki and it's pretty old.  i could bring it up to date with my old 100% run, with some other things that i know about.  i'm not well versed in most things after that though (beyond obvious ones like no-sw grapple skip and stuff), but if nobody really gets around to it before then i guess i can start it off.
Would be nice, if you did, to indeed follow suit with the layout I've been doing for MP1. Again, more ease of use for the viewer.
always move fast
it would probably be best to split the categories into separate pages (techiques page, early items page, etc).  i do like the idea of combining things like you have instead of separate pages for every single thing, but if you just have one page it gets way too long.

also, when linking to videos is there some prefered method or is youtube or whatever fine?
Well, reason I decided to go with 1 page per game is this - having multiple pages per game will:

- Flood SDA's Strategy Wiki. The rest of the Strat Wiki is mostly 1 page per game. In some cases even a whole series on 1 page.
- Make the information less manageable. Although that, I'll admit, is debatable.
what do you think of /Metroid_Prime/urmom or whatever?
and yeah youtube is fine. ideally it would be hosted here but i'm not going to say zomg let's download everything.

I think my mom would disapprove. WinkWinkWink

Anyhow, to make that work would involve make Categories out of each of the Metroid Prime games. Which I suppose would work fine as well.
that would be a way to have things on multiple pages but also not flood the kb. like this for anri's stuff:

it's just that if this is going to 'replace' the respective sections at m2k2, then i don't think it's reasonable to confine everything to one page, unless there is very little detail about anything.

/metroid_prime/stuff/stuff/ is what i meant.  is having too many pages detrimental to the wiki as a whole for some reason i'm not aware of?  or did kharay think i meant /metroid_prime_speed_tricks/ & /metroid_prime_early_items/ and stuff?
