Thanks! I'm another big step closer to being completely done with this category (like fusion any%) and it makes me very happy ^_^

I redid my last segment of any%. 26:27 any%.

There are still a few seconds to shave off by improving everything in general. I'll do that at some point if anyone gets close maybe.

OK, so I just tried something and my romnof MZM counts item acquisitions as game time, so im gonna run on Japanese from now on. Also new and last english pb, 40:54

The version of the game doesn't matter for game time*. Anyway, if you are using the same route as in the record and have 40:54 then you probably aren't doing the rooms quickly. This might be because you don't platform as quickly people with better times do, you don't use the same strategies, or because you make more mistakes. It could be anything really, but those are the main reasons. My advice is to play more or watch videos. That might help you get better at spotting mistakes or slow movement that you make that you otherwise wouldn't notice. I hope that doesn't sound rude to you, but there isn't a lot of other advice I can give you other than to practice =x.

*I just tested this to be sure with bombs and a set of missiles. The Japanese version gained one frame collecting the missiles, and it lost one collecting bombs compared to the USA version. That's barely a difference at all though, so it's probably due to small inaccuracies in my test. There are differences in real time when you have to scroll through text, but that doesn't count towards game time. How exactly did you try timing this?
What'd you say?
Lerd, the best advice we can really give is:

practice.
Okay I'm sorry for being a bit rough here, but you're just looking for excuses, you REALLY need to re-evaluate something if you think your execution "isnt far off of that of the pros". If I stop my 100% PB right before Power Bombs and just go beat the game instead (input files ftw) I can get a time of about ~38 minutes. This isn't about routes or versions, I'd guess your movement is just not up to par. Watch runs of people who actually know what they're doing and compare it with yourself. At a minimum, learn and memorize strategies for rooms that are hard, but you really should do so for about 90% of rooms in the game if you want a really good time. PRACTICE individual rooms until you can do them without slowing down and handle multiple enemy configurations.

Also, these things take time and (gasp) practice. Almost all of the top times have been running this game for at least a year, plenty of them have been running it for several years.

The past month I had a significantly slower any% time (by my standard) that was around mid-29, for any%. I wanted to improve it a lot since my PB was a year ago, so I sat down, watched a few runs and also sam stream (since he had the record) and took many strats. If you saw my streams in the past month or two, I sat down on console and just repeated several rooms over and over and over again until I was able to do them more consistently and it became instinct. After finally getting a run to the end, I was able to improve my time by over a minute and get sub-28 (and i'm still not happy with that; the midgame sucked). So ultimately it just comes down to practice individual rooms and watch runs; there really is no other way.

Also please try not to post 4 times in a row; there's an edit button :) it causes a lot of clutter, especially when each post is a 1-2 liner.

And I'd rather you don't pretend I'm a god at this game or anything; I'm merely someone who put in 2 years of practice+experience into this game and, as a result, got good times in this game. There are people at my level and/or better than me.

I know you're not a god Kirby, its just you're the one who got me into the game and I dont want world record for the game I just want to get on the level of maybe sub 35, but as for Dragonfangs,  I think I should be apologizing to you, after all I made you write that big paragraph, I have seen alot of a difference execution wise, and the only runners I frequently watch for this game are DragonFangs, and Korby, you guys might have seen me in the chat as Machineamoeba58 but then again, I'll take all your advice into account and probably go grind practice for 4 or 5 hours, and thanks Sam for doing that study, you didnt have to. But all in all sub 40 here I come! Also sorry Dragonfangs for blatantly lying about my execution, I'm sorry, it's just I'm really bad and that was how I tried to feel better about myself, but in the end now I just feel bad for lying, im really sorry, please dont be mad at me or offended.
Hi guys!

I improved my any% single segment time by 21 seconds today, there is my picture :

So it's 28:32. I'm so happy with this time, it took me a while and a lot of resets (and a broken gba, shame, but hey, this game can be soooo annoying!) but i got what i would consider a very very good run for my skill level! i know where i could save about 10 seconds, but it looks like i lose a lot of time between cocoon and kraid elevator because my best IGT at the kraid elevator is 12:19, where spidey's is around 11:55. And i don't have a clue where i lose so much time i must say...

Anyway, beware Sam, i'm coming :p

Managed to beat my old PB, not by much igt but a crap load irl. Died a few times, got some safety items, and lots of safety saves. Still insanely unhappy with it, but progress is progress. Managed to shave off about 30 mins igt, I had a horrible time with mecha-ridley first run. Also, emulator sucks. When I can get a gameboy player, I will smash this.

Remember that it won't mean that much to me if you don't record it =P.
My personal best for any% normal single segment is 34:45.  This is run on an emulator (no save states used).  Let me know if video is required for proof and I'll be sure to record next time.
Video proof isn't required at all. It's preferred though, and it's easy to record with an emulator anyway =P.
I use one attached to a hacked PSP, so there is no recording on it :(. I could change to running them on my laptop though I suppose.

Still relearning the game, but this was a pretty good run:

29:14 single segment any%
osnap eagle's back :O
miniscule improvements to both my times: 28:12 in any% and 52:55 in 100%
33:29 any% single segment, will be improved soon
Before I got tired of this game, I did get 40:01.
52:42 in 100%. This run was actually full of mistakes. I'll beat it soon.
