I don't think her performance was terrible, but I do think the way the character was written wasn't very good. but yeah it's at least cool to look at, it's very well put together, and I think it shows that a metroid film is a viable concept.
one thing specifically I didn't like was the repeated use of shots of her face inside the suit. it struck me as distinctly un-metroid like, and I think it could have been done just as effectively with just body language (except when the suit was powered down).
I'm also interested to see if there's going to be any reaction from nintendo. there will undoubtedly be people who take this to mean that nintendo (or someone) has plans for a full-length movie, even when it says there's no affiliation or anything with nintendo.
The in-helmet shots are basically straight lifted from the Iron Man movies. I'm not against the idea for a Metroid film in concept but I don't think it was used deftly here. It might help to have someone playing Samus that can actually sell a facial expression though.
i have no interest in a metroid movie ... most games, especially metroid, just wouldn't work as movies
i actually like the helmet shots though, and her performance. she's not amazing or anything, but i thought it was a good take on what the character might sound like in a movie made these days. also i have a soft spot for jessica chobot, she's great
gamma's right though, the writing is the weak part, but how the fuck would you even write a movie where there's only one character, only she talks, and just solves puzzles and fights aliens the whole time ...
you'd almost have to give it something like corruption's story, and that's not what anyone would want
