I know this is about metroid but Halo had it's own book with it's story and all, is there anything online like a website that has kinda like a metroid story? Not the goofy little comics ( I love them cause they are funny so goofy is not used as an insult ) I have read most of them.

The only thing I know of for Metroid is the manga, and even that seems to be debatable these days by most people. I'd always thought it was canon, or at least most of it, but then after Other M came out I saw tons of people claim it wasn't. Funny, because I don't remember many people having too many problems with it beforehand, and it feels like some only have issues now because it helped confirm Samus' personality was already headed down the path it has taken thanks to Other M's portrayal of her.

Either way, I still consider it to be important, but I also don't have much of a problem with Other M in general so that's probably a good part why I feel that way.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
As far as I understand it, Metroid was released with a very basic story, and all of the releases since have been given a story to help it fit somewhere in the Metroid universe.  I don't believe the creators have one solid story that they try to mke everything fit exactly - this is mostly the fans' work.  A lot of discussion is held on the subject, as a lot of fans seem unable to accept that they're making games, and make an effort to fit them into this universe.  The fans seem to want everything to fit perfectly into the Metroid universe (with a Metal Gear like back story), and seem to want everything to fit perfectly, even though giving the Metroid story a proper beginning, middle, and end would effectively close the series, with seems counterproductive.

Play the games as individual games, and enjoy them on their own merits.

There are a couple of problems with the manga.

First is that Zero Mission blatantly contradicts it more than once, and I'm inclined to count the games as canon before supplemental material.  Which brings me to the second problem: why is the manga only available in Japan if it's such an essential part of the story?  It's just so arrogant to think that international fans don't want to enjoy these things too.

It's rather like Squeenix making the "Final Mixes" of the KH games, which added a lot of important story elements, only available in Japan; then referencing events from those exclusive re-releases in games that do hit stateside?  Do they just assume that we're going to import, or something?  Not that they're wrong, but they shouldn't be able to just assume that sort of thing.

Oh, absolutely. I'll agree with you almost every time on this, although I can't think of any exceptions off the top of my head right now.

And yeah, I know the games come before the story/universe, but that doesn't mean there aren't those of us that care about such things. I know everything won't fit in perfectly, and the games contradict each other at times, but I still enjoy what they have for the story regardless of this. It's what happens when you add on to an established universe with each new game.
One shall stand, one shall ball.

You aren't terribly familiar with Japan are you? Razz

There's probably a reason you're saying that, so I'm going to say... no?

Conformity, dude. Let's just leave it at that.

And why the hell do you need a whole booklet to overview the whole Metroid story when you can just read those intros in the first few pages of almost every manual in a Metroid game (save for Fusion, which has that extra "Brief History Lesson" in the back)? The Metroid series isn't all that plot-heavy (well, most of it, anyway).

the only external source of Metroid story we have atm is the japan-only manga. luckily, there isn't much extra stuff since books and shit expanding universes in other series can get convoluted and hard to follow.

it would be good if a book detailing the whole timeline in one go and with summaries of every game's playable events and how each game's end plays out was made just to have everything clearly defined and get rid of some plotholes. they could even add extra stuff to explain stuff that is either unexplained or barely touched upon.
regarding the end, the book could have an open end to leave room for future games.
I think Echoes or the pre-order disc for Echoes came with a pamphlet that laid out the timeline, but didn't really go into detail about it.

There's also the Metroid Prime Trilogy Artbook which gives us some Metroid history, including the whole K-2L incident.

i'd put those as part of the manuals since the info they have could be easily inside one.
