I wouldn't know how to do that since it's not a rom. I guess you would have to run it in a Windows emulator to TAS it. I'm not personally interested in TAS...

Me either but it will be enough to have a simple framerate-adjustment-feature for them.
( I would recommend then to make this feature unlockable for "speed-fans" who manage to beat the game below a certain time, not bad idea, huh?  Wink)

I'm just not interested in including game-breaking cheats by default. I'm not that interested in this subject in general. The whole point of hacks and TAS etc is to do things the designer didn't intend. Adding that stuff by default makes it part of the base game design, and therefor no longer a hack or a TAS by definition. Adding pointless gimmicks is a big waste of my precious development time.

Let us see what other people think.
(personal opinion: I totally agree with your statement.)

An additional note tough:
I think TASers dont care what is by definition or not. In first place they want to have the opportunity/time to plan every action with a very high precision. If SM would natively provide such an opportunity for that, then I think they would use it as their "platform" to create kind of art of speedrunning.
Here are surely some TASers, so correct me if I am wrong.
At 0:19 and 4:08...  Hmm.  At first when I seen (Samus?  Eh? ) running in that suit - I was thinking it was some sort of 'shout-out' to Halo.  Then I seen the artwork at 4:08...  Now I'm thinking there is (of course) a bit of a story here.  Or, that (situation) would have something to do with it.

Thanks for the update/vid.  I don't think I would call it a teaser...  More like a floater.  Since it'll float us along until the next...  Very Happy  *snicker* floater.

VR - since this is a metroid game, I'm sure it will tell us at the end how long it took us.  Is it possible for it to give it to us in hundredths of a second ?
Almost happy

I agree with VR. Even though I would very much so be able to make a TAS of this game, I would never anyone to waste tons of time just to make it possible for me to do so (besides, a lot more than just making a slow down function would have to be done).
Ready to internet!

Yes, I can see it now, sort of: Metroid SR-388: THE ULTIMATE SPEED RUN GAME With Time Trial Mode!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

First thing I thought of was a Galactic Federation troop, which would be awesome to play as through a beating the game reward thingy. Almost as awesome as playing as a Metroid.

It is because you far dont see the game but only many experimental engine-setting-tests.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Don't panic VR, I wasn't hoping to anger you or anything, but just enquiring as to whether you had plans for it.  You don't, and that's fine. Very Happy  I presume that you will have a completion time at the end, however, as running seems to be an integral part of all Metroid games?  I suppose with runs, there are always things like FRAPS, anyway.

Also, I'd like to add that I like the look of the slower moving Shinespark, as I always felt that they travel too fast, and you don't get to fully appreciate the SMASH when you start to trounce the scenery! aiwebs_011

Aren't you going to ask if there are some interested potential coders in here that want to help, von?  Maybe you need to have tryouts...
Yo.
Coders? In the company of TASers and Super Metroid hackers? aiwebs_012 Durgawarsleyvamrewhu?

Ah, you'd think it would be easy, but I doubt anyone qualified enough will be able to step up to the task.  I'd love to be proved wrong, though.

Worst case scenario, it's released as the ultimate replacement for SMILE, a complete Metroid kit.

Really don't see that happening, as part of the love for super metroid isn't *just* that that game kicks ass but *also* that it's the "real deal".

Well obviously it wouldn't be hacking. What I mean is a complete kit for games with all upgrades and all enemies from all the 2D games (obviously in that case full rips of SM gfx would be added etc). Some people just want to use SMILE to make cool levels and do not care about the hacking aspect.

That sounds absolutely awesome. I once tried SMILE, but figured that rom hacking really is serious business, and that the effort I would have to put into learning it (in order to create a decent metroid game) wouldn't pay off for me.

I'm totally looking forward to this!

A slower shinespark is especially important if it is not going to be fully linear.

Shocked This...wow...It's come a LONG way from the old vids of the engine being tested.  Incredible...simply incredible.  I don't think I've even heard of a fan game with this much work put into it.  Simply amazing work (I feel a bit like a broken record, butI don't care).  Can't wait to see the final product (even if the worst case happens, it at least means I can play around with the engine grin new).
Hated by all
Von Richter, that video two pages back shows awesome. Now all I need to be really turned on is an enhanced vision preview.

I'm going to suffer a systematic burnout if I see anymore. Don't force me to do this when it comes out:

Maybe add a place when you have to spark through a tunnel full of explosive blocks, or else sparking out a la Star Wars.

Rewards, huh? Been wondering, can we get achievements for this game (like any of the Source Engine games)?  Very Happy

laugh new That'd be pretty amusing, but like the Source Engine games ultimately useless.  Still cool though.

That's actually what I thought when I saw that, "Wait...being able to play as a GF trooper?!"  then I realized there might be cut scenes in the beginning of the game.  Either way that video was enough awesome to last me for a good while.  At least until a demo or the full game is released.

Using gamemaker for this game sounds not very promising. I dont know how efficient it works but there are already complaints about performance with comparingly simple situations. I recommend everyone how wants to work on this to take a look at the XNA-framework, it is probably much more suitable for a modern looking game.

(btw. dont count with me as coder since I have tons of work for my own highly loved projects besides important real-life issues, I think it will not be too difficult to find someone capable to code comparingly trivial things, I suppose you are nowhere going at high-end A.I. etc.)

I agree with the above posted, that sounds awesome because I can't hack crap right now. I would rather just, as you said, make cool levels.
Same here: I remember trying (and failing miserably when I think back to them) to create my own Metroid worlds in the past on paper. I'd love the chance to be able to make a real Metroid world and be able to play it.

I thought I was the only one who did that  Shocked

I would pass time by making maps of a Metroid IV (which then became V, after Fusion was released) on lined paper. I would make a list of beams and power ups, the Pirate Homeworld was one location I thought it would be cool to have a Metroid game take place. MAYBE this pack will make my childhood dream come true without any hacking or programming (since I stink at programming, or at least at Visual Basic, which stinks).

Heh, I always used MS paint.  But yeah, even if it is only released as a SMILE type thing, that'd be fine in my book, because first I could then have tons of fun just playing with the engine, and second map making is a fun way to spend time while waiting for files to compile, un-zip, etc.
