People have asked me several times to make speed run videos.  The problem is, I don't know where to put them. They are going to be emulator files because I don't have a GBP. Anyone know a place?

I am already in the process of a 100% speed run. I'm up to PYR before BOX. I've also recorded some random speed tricks and a few glitches if anyone is interested.
Thread title:
what format are the movies in? it seems like hardly anyone knows how to use vba movies *coughincludingmecough*, so it'd be best if they were .mp4 or something like that.

you could put them up in SDA (speed demos archive), where radix's, zodi's, and red scarlet's vids are, but not here, because nate is having trouble with bandwidth.
Could someone tell me how I could convert them to mp4?
give them to nate. He'll convert them.

if you want, you can actually record movie and .avi files at the same time I think, but I don't prefer taht because a 20 minute vid for wmp ( the compression that is always used for me it seems by defalt even if I tell it to compress in Divx codec >_>) is over 100 mb O_O

so jsut give them to nate.

Nope, SDA and nate don't accept emu runs due to unavoidable slowdown.
damn >_> maybe you could put them up on angel fire w/ about 100 or so mirrors <_<

j/k

nate'll have to put them up then, but then they can only be downloaded once a week. :( or more, if they get a lot of attention.

Erm, yeah. Sorry. There's a topic about it somewhere.
so then sess is just special? damn, I wanted to see those vids, too >_<

and email and AIM take upwards of 30-60 minutes per segment of a typical video to send >_<

do any of the SSBM guys have any extra bandwidth to spare? I dunno if they are all on low-bandwidth sites, but other than that, I'm all out of ideas ;_;
Explain how to record and watch VMU's (Eruditious recommends doing this on V 1.06 and with a BIOS):

To record a VMU,  load up the rom you want to use, go to tools, record, start movie recording, name it what you want (like 100 part 1 or something), then start playing the game like you would normally until you get to where you want to stop, then go back to tools, and then stop movie recording(you could make hotkeys for these options).
Repeat for each segment, giving it a different name.

To watch a VMU,  make sure you have the same VBA version (1.06 recommended) and the BIOS if it was used.  Load the rom, go to tools, play,  start playing movie, then find where you have it at on your comp.  It should then play and stop where the player stopped (so you don't have to choose 'stop playing movie')  (Eruditious recommends using auto-frameskip when watching vids)

Hope that helped.

Plus VMU's are super small, so you could just distribute them yourself
gah, what the fuck? things go to hell while i work on my run.

w.dawgs, you will need to email me (nate@metroid2002.com) so that i can send you login information to use metroid2002.com as an ftp server. i'm going to go ahead and say you can't host full data (.avi, .mp4, etc) video from there, though, so try to limit it to vmus. be sure to upload a text file describing your environment, as well (which version of vba and whether or not a bios file was loaded when you recorded). would love to post some of your speed tricks in the fusion section.

and sess's technical demonstration, as he and many others have said time and time again, is not a speed run.

... yeah.

not a speed run.
Wouldn't the wording of it make low-percent and NBMB runs fair game as well?  Since they are not speed runs (and I know that some people speed run low-percent)...
no, because of the control advantage of using a keyboard, for starters.
Well, it just seemed you only talked about speed runs in the announcement forum post.

should be broadened to "anything going for any kind of record," as that was the intention.
The idea of Sess' run is just to look cool, not to compete for any kind of tangible record. Low percent and NBMB runs, however, are intended to aim for the best times and percentages the runner can get, though, so they're subject to the same stricter rules that conventional speed runs are.
well I figured out how to use vmus >_> just not how to use a bios file <_<

Do you have the GBA bios?
Ok. I think I sent them.  :?

Curse you VMVs!  :P
yikes, just noticed he failed to upload the .VM0 files. will need to do that in order for anyone to be able to watch them.
Oops. I didn't know that. I think I put the right ones up now. I have a bunch of old vmo files of the same thing in the same folder so I might have made a mistake.
Which VBA version?
I think it's 1.7.  The help file says 1.7.1 on it.

Did I send the right files this time?
awesome, yes, they play fine. need to talk to daveb about how i'm going to categorize/credit this stuff and should appear on the site shortly.

no wonder your time is so low.
