Maybe I'm wrong on this, but isn't K-2L somewhere near Zebes? (Ok, at least according to the Super Metroid Comic if I recall.) It makes sense to me that it would be: How else could the Chozo have arrived so quickly, or even cared about the raid if it wasn't anywhere near them?
But, besides that, the only other planets that are anywhere near each other are Zebes and Tallon IV. (Officially anyway) Also, shouldn't Ceres (The station in Super) be somewhere near Zebes as well since Ridley was able to get in and out so fast with the larva?
Or am I just making very big guesses at all of this?
Hmm... thinking about the Asteroids made me remember something: Doesn't Samus's ship drift into one at the beginning of Fusion? Where exactly is that belt then? (The same one perhaps?)
The only problem with that is, if it was the same one, wouldn't that put SR388 somewhere near Zebes/Tallon IV as well? But, from what we know, they aren't anywhere near each other, right? (Hmm... another problem with the storyline, great...)
SR388's system could have an asteroid belt in it, as well. It's not like they're rare, or anything. Hell, our system has one, and I don't see Ceres in it.
It doesn't help that the games themselves don't really tell us anything about the systems, but the whole belt thing was mainly an observation.
I really don't think they are anywhere near each other (Zebes/SR388) since in Prime it would've had SR388 included with the system hologram. Speaking of which, you think there's any chance a game might include one of the extra planets in it?
Probably not, but some of the descriptions are interesting for a game design in my opinion.

For this reason I always figured that Ceres Station was in this solar system's asteroid belt, and was very surprised that anyone would think otherwise -- it's a logical place for a research station if we assume that Earth would continue to be the center of human civilization. But I lack the extensive Metroid background of most posters here, hence my lurking thus far.

what the crap? thats something quite unexpected , becuase I never would have figured nintendo to name things in real life about things that most of us would have never knew about...
Lots of games (particularily RPGs) have tons of allusions and references to stuff. Most often, Mythology (frequently Norse), and a few other things, such as Ceres. Just to add some cool nuances to the games. I actually knew about Ceres beforehand, but it's still neat.

yeah, today, i figured out during my Ancient Civ class that zelda: TWW , part of the story is a rip from the epic of gilgimesh, or someting...
