rocks, locks, and invisible blocks
I've been joking around for a while that Wii would be the version to solve 20%, but I think it's actually happening... As  if  t h e  c u r r e n t  y e a r  wasn't stupid enough already, here I am to finish it off with a bang: Potential TAS-only 20% on the Japanese stand alone Wii release of Metroid Prime.

The idea is something I've floated around for a while "haha wouldn't it be so stupid if you could skip Varia on Wii by abusing the fact that IS works without Boost, the Magmoor heat damage is cut so much compared to GC [on easy mode], and the puffers drop ultras?". Well the other day I went and tested it and managed a 1 tank VMR, which has poor RNG on the early drops, and was basically done controller savestate:

Once I finished this I had the realization that "oh, well this is pointless, you need to scan the elevator post to use it and I'm suck in lightshow". But then I remembered, way way way back when people used inbounds infinite speed to collect Sun as an alternative to Thardus Dash, on the rare occation, this would happen:

And now today I finally sat down and decided to test, does activing an elevator like this, activate the hologram without needing to scan the post... and the answer is yes:

So of course, I connected them all together and here we are.

It's possible to, at the very least, skip Varia collecting only one tank in a TAS. With optimal drops and optimizations, I see no reason I couldn't bring this down to 0 tanks. Every other major aspect in 21% Wii has already been solved in a TAS setting... So 20% should be confirmed TAS-possible as long as I can bring this to the point where no energy tanks are required.

I'm sorry.

Oh, and of course, I will make a full controller savestate demonstration of this if I solve it completely.

Edit: Okay so another thing I just realized I need to solve is Monitor Station without unmorphing. Due to the amount of drops in this room, I wouldn't be surprised if you could just go around the room and still make it to the door in time. There's also potential to use a glitch where you can spring ball on a wall for more height. I'll look into this room too.

Edit: And now that's solved:

So plasma Beam is a thing. I need to also make sure this works on Wii because I can't use Burning Trail without Varia
If you manage to pull this off, what exactly would make it TAS only?
2:15 in the VMR video looks like it would be pretty stupid to do non-TAS.. specially if you also need to do it as quickly as possible while also getting good RNG from drops...
rocks, locks, and invisible blocks
Yeah that's the main thing. The X-Ray segment is also borderline TAS only. And Plasma might be really awful as well once I make sure it's even doable.
I'm pretty sure the pirate counts as 'in air' doesn't it?

Well here I am, I finally made it to Magmoor in the full game demonstration. I guess in a day or so I'll probably be back with an "oh shit I did it!" or a "it's like 15 energy away from possible :/"
It's been a day or so

I guess it's not confirmed yet but I got past the only place in the last video where I took over 100 damage... so.

Edit:
loving low%
Whoaaaaa!!!

So there's only getting out of bounds in Magmoor Workstation SW with the flying pirate(s) left to be proven to work and 20% is solved on "easy" mode on Wii de Asobu, right?
rocks, locks, and invisible blocks
I believe so yeah. All the other non-heated rooms have been solved. I want to look into Phendrana's Edge again though, because I honestly don't remember exactly what I did to get on the branch, some sort of BSJ I think. (The video was on my old harddrive that died).
why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why kwhy k
Also this is really really cool

Might as well just swing by and mention this is still a thing.

I compared to Justin's 1:09 21% LOTAD just because I was curious and it turns out we collected Lifegiver at almost the same time RTA (not that that's a fair comparison because different routes). (Still think it's kinda funny though).

I'm at 6% now.

obligatory necropos. Every time I watch the vmr I am amazed.

Here's the first hybrid TAS and non-TAS completion of 21% on Wii. I took my 20% run, put the save on my Wii, collected Space Jump, and then finished the game. Someday I'll actually finish the LOTAD. But for now, yay this is the first 21% on Wii.

(As an update, the LOTAD is at HOTE during the Ice Beam wallcrawl)
