it counts re-records really weird if you use read-only mode, sometimes it'll even lower the number if you compare a newer dtm to an older one. come to think of it though, I'm guessing you don't even use read-only, so it should be more accurate for you. (also newer revs might have even fixed the problems?)

though they're just a few frames off from perfection i think

Also I wouldn't get too optimistic, I would be willing to bet that there's at least 1-2 seconds that could be taken off the first room of my 2012 TAS with truly near-perfect movement. This game is incredibly complicated, so with the lack of TASers working on this game at the moment, I don't see that happening anytime soon though.

I thought like that too, though even if you optimize all the movement alltogether it wouldnt add up to an entire second, theres just a few very minor changes i would think of doing from my recording and it would probably just barely make a difference. I'm not saying you could cut off an entire second, but i would be rather surprised. Though there is really a LOT of room for movement changing, my TAS looks quite different from yours and ends up being almost the same endtime. This surely is gonna be interesting... Though i'll not touch that room again anytime soon.

yeah, please don't, I think everyone here would rather see a decent TAS finished than an optimal one that never makes progress.
honestly, i feel like tasing this game from start to finish and optimizing each room at a time probably won't get you anywhere. i think you'd be much better served to tas various sections of the game first like magmoor or phendrana or something else to get an idea of what those areas would even look like tased while also gaining experience outside of the first few rooms of the game. we've seen the frigate tased 20 times over and i feel like if you continue along the same approach as the previous tas attempts, this attempt will end the same way.

No, i'm not planning to stop this TAS till i finish it, it will be much more optimized than my old TAS, which ended at ice beam, i did not end it because it was bad, but because i was tired of TASing like that. (it was a lot of work, i used a shitty way of recording it and it was very far away from being optimized, this is gonna be way further optimized) It probably gonna require me to be very creative in doing some rooms which have never been TASed before, though that's actually one of the major points of doing this TAS, if you think about it. Also this at the end of the day will give me a savestate for every single room of the game, so even if it is so far off from perfection, it'll help me creating new strats for different rooms. So yeah, theres a number of reasons why this TAS should be done. Now, of course, this is not gonna be like the perfect TAS or something, but it's potentially gonna put us a lot closer to understand what a TAS will look like. (not gonna promise anything, but we'll see, also this is gonna be one hell of a watch.Well also, a TAS of this game should have happened a long time ago anyways >_>
To be fair, there really is a section i have no clue about how to TAS: IBBF, seriously, i do not know how the quickest way of doing that is gonna look like and i really hope it will turn out well, other things i can think of which probably will be changed in the future will be burning trail to get plasma quicker (not sure how the route will look like if you do it though) the wave beam part itspersonnal was showing earlier, especially because i think his OoB part could be improved,

Oh yeah, sadly i cannot compare my TAS to itspersonnals anymore, due to loading time differences. (the cutscene near the first map station does load longer on the new dolphin)

well damn, if i had known that, i wouldn't have needed to make that post in the first place!...

my point is that it'd be wise to reconsider your approach. tasing the entire game is extremely ambitious, i don't think you realize how much work you have cut out for yourself.

Yes, it's gonna be a shitton of work, but oh well... (Tasing the frigate alone is annoying as hell)

I'm actually not sure if i'm ahead or not, but we're both quite close together i think. It's hard to time anyways due to loading times.

So, the result of 11 hours of work for today is a halfway optimized 5 first rooms of the game. good progress......

I was messing around with my old TAS from 2012 to test a couple of things on the frigate, turns out I TASed up to Biotech Research Area 1 in the Frigate Escape and never uploaded it to the internet

It's ~60-65 frames faster than T3's WR video, and at this point in the Escape there are no loads, so none of that time-save came from Dolphin being terrible.

Okay so route idea:
first off, we find a way to make this possible

I find it hard to believe that there isn't some way to have perfect height and position when that room loads and collect the PB with Samus' head, and then clip out through the floor.
After that get's solved, we go:
Charge
Bombs
IBBF
X-Ray
Chozo
Varia
Nature
Boost
Wave
Sun
Lifegiver
Plasma
Elder
Spirit
Main Power Bombs
Phazon Suit
Newborn
Warrior
World
And finish.
(lifegiver might be faster to collect at the very end of the run, idk)

If early PB's can't be solved, it's technically possible to get X-Ray without PBs, but requires stupid wallcrawls and fighting the Live Grove ghosts. I really don't want to even time that.

Someone solve this early PB and I'll TAS the game.
Is there any way to directly hack your position directly on emulator when you're near the PB and just mess around with that?
He doesn't even know the address for the location of the power bomb.
I said "your position" as in, Samus's position, which I guess you can mess around to adjust close to the power bomb with trial & error at worst case scenario

The power bomb's position is 181.427887, -226.236923, 18.00422. So try messing with the Z value and try different settings I guess, see if there's one where you get the PB and fall back out of bounds.

Honestly I think you have a better shot at trying to get the Fiery Shores PB early. It might be feasible to get up the hole backwards with a really good bomb jump (+boost).

That's much more out of the way than this one, and wouldn't work very well with this route either. But that's something I'll have to look into.

Also having those coordinates doesn't help me much, I can't figure out addresses viewing in general for this game. It's out my league programming-know-how-wise.

if I recall correctly, TRH someone did this on console back in the day. TAS will easily be able to do it.

Also, if you actually really feel like TASing this game, I won't be stopping you! ;)
how precise does your positioning need to be for this? is there any remote chance this is possible on console?
