There really is no way to time it properly, but yeah, people have come up with this idea before. It's almost certainly faster or around the same time I think? It's hard to really know <_<
Of course you could time it. Time the difference it takes to do a mostly optimised run getting Plasma early & not from Burning Trail to a certain mutual point.
Out of curiosity, I've seen it mentioned that you can trigger floaty jump in the frigate by lonloading a reoom while you;re still in it's water box. Can you do the same in Twin Fire Tunnels? Or does the lava not extend to the right places to unload the level? (or is it not deep enough?)
Not sure this is the right place to post a question like that...
Also I personally, can not answer that. But, I can say that it's very likely that floaty jump could be activated somewhere in Magmoor by doing something similar to that
Even though it's a waste of time because the times will never be comparable to the real game because of loading, it would still be fun to watch the full TAS run...
EDIT: Wow I was really behind at reading these posts... Sorry, this was directed toward the argument about a full TAS MP1 run being stupid because of load times in Dolphin.
of course it'd be fun to watch that TAS, who cares about the ending time >_> it will be completely different to a human-made-run anyways, its probably gonna be like a 0:43 or something, so who cares, just do it without loading times. my god.
Honestly I don't get how it's dumb. TAS is just for the fun of watching a 100% optimized run anyways, so how is it dumb that loading is instant?
Because it affects INGAME strats. It's not like "oh the loading screens are shorter? That doesn't matter". It's "oh, the door that I normally need to hit a loading trigger for will just open instantly. No need to hit the trigger then, right". Things that would be objectively slower become FASTER than the optimized room strats with Dolphins current loads. At that point the game isn't really even Metroid Prime anymore, every room would be done completely different

In addition, OoB strats would be completely different between accurate-load times and instant-load times. Have fun getting a room to load around you if it loads instantly before you get there!
if loading times are a part of gameplay then why are the crashes that happen when playing on a gc also not a part of gameplay? shouldn't that mean that runners should have to play on a gc in order for the game to run properly?
for the record i'm not siding with anyone here, but i'd like to know what people think about this.
Well, I don't want to get into the whole console versus emulation thing here That's even worse an argument than what we have going already but for the most part, if the game is being played on a official system like a Wii, then it's considered "proper" or "fair", I guess.
i think things are being found pretty often when you're doing TAS'es which could also potentially help optimizing current strats. Okay; of course the gameplay would be different; but not like "completely different" but it would suck if nobody would ever do a tas of this game, just because its not "fair enough, or whatever", seriously i mean, wouldnt it be like really interisting to finally see a full game tas of this game?... even though, its not 100% accurate to the original game? i'm still sure a LOT would be the same without loading times throughout the run and that'd be something really interisting to look into, entertaiment wise and actually having use from it for other speedrunners eventually. like my old crappy TAS had too, i mean runners (myself included) are now copying some strats from it, which have not been used before

Strats are found by the person making the TAS, they don't just show up because someone makes one. If you want to get new strats then look though the game on console and find them like that? That's what I had done in the old TAS WIP that I worked on. Unless the strats require TAS-like inputs to do then it's not a issuie. And if they do require TAS-like inputs, then they can't be too useful for non-TAS players.
Hey, I'm trying to pick TASing this game back up, but I ran into a controller problem, can anyone help me fix this, okay so I need to figure out a way to make it so I can use the "L" Button as a strafe and locking on too enemies and scans as well, but whenever I set it up in the "GCPad" I can't have two functions on the same button or else it won't perform both. I'm sure you all know that on standard console the L button does both functions locking on and that + Strafing feature. Is this possible to have the same thing in dolphin, thanks everyone
Also about everyone complaining about loading zones, seriously almost all the rooms in the game you will hit the loading trigger before you reach the door anyways, I believe their is like one room where you press start to load the menu to load the room quicker in chozo ruins, other than that like wtf people

That wasn't even the point <_< The point is that the time it takes doors to load will be completely different. I dont want to repeat myself for the 100th time; to be blunt, if you don't understand why a TAS is dumb with current dolphin, then you aren't near qualified to work on it.
Also, reread this -

Finally, stop posting freaking walls of text like this:

if he wants to make a tas then let him. sure no one will take it seriously but if he wants to work on one that's his prerogative. i don't see why we need to have this argument every single time someone wants to make one. also who knows, the run itself might not have any use but he might discover new strats or something while working on it that could be useful. if it at least generates some interest in the game or has people watching then that's better than nothing.
