Hi guys, this is CapCom from the MDb. Had a question for you all regarding the SFX for the suit used in the Japanese and European versions of Metroid Prime. I located a few voice FX that do not appear to be used in the game. They are included on this zip file:

http://www.metroid-database.com/music/mp/Metroid%20Prime%20SFX%20Pack.zip

I was wondering if anyone could verify which ones were used in the game.

-Thanks!

getting there...
I doubt the list is comprehensive, but I found a good starting point for you. http://www.metroid2002.com/version_differences_suit_voice.php Most of the people that visit this site gravitate towards version NTSC-00, which doesn't have the voices. So, it might take a bit to find the expertise you are looking for.
how sure are you that every area was announced in the japanese version? i don't remember that at all. i don't have my japanese copy here with me though so i can't verify that right now.

i actually kind of like samus's narration. maybe i'm just biased though because it confirms how i've always pronounces zebes. :P it's likely how retro was instructed by nintendo to reconcile ゼーベス with the romanization "zebes," which was already in use at the time and perhaps more commonly than "zebeth."

i believe you are correct that "heat level critical" and "danger" are unused. perhaps this is because they got too annoying playing all the time.

the file labeled "ice beam malfunction" actually says charge beam malfunction. are these internal names of the files? if so then they probably changed the sound without changing the filename when they removed the ice beam from the intro (search the forum for metroid prime demo disc for more on this).
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
i remember all big areas being announced in the new play control mp1 jp release (tallon overworld, impact crater, phazon mines, frigate orpheon, but stuff like "lava caves", "ice valley" instead of their magmoor and phendarana western names)

I was going by what was on the M2K2 list, but the list said nothing about the warning SFX. I was asking here because folks on M2K2 seem to know a bit more about Prime minutiae.

Anyway, thanks for the info. I guess if the warning isn't used... I thought those might have been used when Samus is in the lava and about to die.
Anywhere, everywhere
I know that "heat level critical" plays in the wii version in magmoor without varia.
Thanks for linking to that .zip. I like having all these SFX. Is nice.
lol no way
Word, the voice acting for some of the longer clips, especially the description of what happened in Metroid 1, were a little awkward but totally awesome to hear after so many years, when I only have the original version.
