Metroid: Other M Hands-on Impressions

I wasn't even considering the manga. I was thinking all of the Adam hatred was borne of the countless hours of our lives wasted while doing runs of fusion without ANY WAY to skip the dialogue. I'm willing to bet that I could get out a pen and paper and write verbatim and in chronological order every fucking line of crap he spews during that game. I estimate that I have played through the game at least 100 times (seems like more, though). I kinda go into a trance when I enter each navigation room so I can sorta meditate and not be totally present during the whole exchange lest I go fucking insane.

Well, I'm pretty sure all of the hatred for him comes from Fusion alone. (I was trying to say that my opinion of him is higher than it used to be after seeing him in the Manga, not that it affected him negatively.) With both the unskippable dialogue and the blocks he put up that prevented us from exploring where we wanted to, Fusion was the first time we'd come across those mechanics in Metroid to that degree, which was completely out of sync with the rest of the series.

Actually, I don't think Adam himself is the problem, just what he represents with those two issues. So yeah, as long as he doesn't completely take over like that again I'm thinking I won't have a much of a problem with him in the end. (Unless he ends up being an absolutely terrible character, but somehow I'm doubting that will happen.)

It appears that there is a variety of reasons to hate Adam. I've said more than once that I don't really mind the roadblocks that Adam erects in Fusion any more than I mind that you have to have super missiles to get to Kraid in SM. I just hate the fact that I have to talk to him about it !! Over..and over...and over...and over...and...over....yes...this lady...has some major objections you fucking piece of fuck shit !!! *screams, feces flyin'*

'Adam' downloaded him once it was made apparent Samus would follow his orders.

Wasn't it Adam all the way through, and Samus called the computer 'Adam' because of the similarities between the computer and her CO before discovering that it actually was Adam?

Woah...I never thought of it that way before. It makes WAY more sense than thinking that it was Adam all along. If it were Adam all along, then why was it conspiring behind her back? I like the idea that it was just some soulless computer program CO throughout the game, but then Adam's digital soul took over after Samus accidentally mentioned him.

That's a much more sinister view of the computer in Fusion than I'd ever thought of but to an extent it makes perfect sense. "Adam" doesn't know who Adam is when Samus calls it such, questions how Adam would act, has the whole behind the back thing going on...

I'm trying to approach Other M with an extremely open mind.

i don't think that adam just possesed the computer, it was him all along, he just dind't knew that samus thought about the whole mission and how she believed in him...

given that she somehow fucked up something on the past to piss him off and send her out of the army...

Like he said, the computer realized that by being adam, samus would follow his orders. The computer didnt know that by modifying its programming to include adam that the orders would drastically change. Two things happened during that dialogue: samus mentioned adam, and samus was being defiant. The computer simply deduced that activating the adam programming would make samus comply, not knowing that adam would take her side.

The part where the computer was saying 'How foolish...'etc was right after adam had assumed control and he was messing with her.

I'm not convinced. I don't think Nintendo would bother doing something so subtle and (apparently) ambiguous in the plot of a GBA game. Then again, look at Link's Awakening...

Exactly what happened during that part with adam is so unclear that I don't think anyone knows for sure wtf is happening. Maybe Other M will make it clear, but I kinda doubt it for some reason.
