I'm confused as to how Metroids can evolve to Alpha, Omega, Beta Metroids and such in Metroid II: The Return of Samus...

....yet evolve to Hunter Metroids in Metroid Prime?

Can someone clear this up?
Thread title:
Hunter Metroids are made. The Space Pirates mutated Larva Metroids to Hunter and Fusion Metroids. The did all kinds of experiments on them and using Phazon they made the new breeds. I may not be exactly right, but this is how I always though it was done.
Mega Flare
One thing I pondered while watching a SM run... if, like ROS shows, Metroids evolve into the Alpha, Beta, etc., then why do the Metroids on Zebes in SM not evolve into those forms? Think of the larva in Tourian. It hasn't changed or evolved, only grown larger. That may be because the environment, climate, and atmospheric gases are not the same as SR388, so they simply grow larger instead of evolving...

Or it's just a damn game, and I need to shut up. Either way.
Superion's explanation seems logical. They became hunter metroids due to phazon exposure.

And I guess they become Fission Metroids due to extreme phazon exposure, the red kind. But it still leaves the question of how Prime came to be...

Perhaps it was a Hunter Metroid that evolved again due to extreme phazon exposure, and Metroid Prime is just a Hunter Metroid that went through many Phazon-induced evolutions...
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.

According to Fusion, Metroids need an SR388 like environment to mutate into Alpha, Gamma, etc.  Just what's in the SR388 environment that changes them is not known.

Ready and willing.
I remember hearing somewhere (canon somewhere) that it was the radiation given off by SR388's sun. Technically, all the Federation had to do was get some of that radation (it's not like Samus has blown up any stars... yet), but in Fusion Adam says that SRX is "perfect for creating Alphas, Betas...". So it's not the envorment that gets them evolving, but it was certainly a good idea for the Federation to emulate the enviroment too.
Hmm....

Then are hunter metroid a natural evolution or a phazon induced one?
Phazon. But also other kinds of tests and different technequies to mutate them further. Phazon is the key to their new growth, but how much and when and the distrabution are use to make them different.
Come to think of it.  :?

I am thinking what the Metroids would mutate into if exposed with the Dark World Phazon in Planet Aether.  :?

The Phazon in Aether might be way diffrent from the Phazon in Tallon IV.  :?

Just a thought.  :?
Its always possibal, Dark Would could cause them to grow of evolve at a faster rate or even nothing. Thats actually going to be a interesting thing to find out when the game comes out. Then again, there could be no Metroids period. (Excluding the occasional Metroid Prime)

There are Metroids in MP2.  They've been seen already (though in captivity).  They're red for some reason.
Hmmm... thats interesting. Its going to weird then too see where the story goes with te Metroids. I wonder if they will even have any importence to the game or not, like the should for old time sake.

That would be very strange in my opinion: A Metroid game without the creature it's named after?

Besides, even though they are in a video there is still more proof: They are mentioned in the scannable console/compupter things in the demo if I recall. (The room with the dark portal)

As to how they are involved with the game: Retro and Nintendo most likely came up with something clever, like with Fusion and the research lab. (Hopefully...)
I was just saying, the game does take place on a whole new planet during a war between to different life-forms and then the whole alternet dimention thing... there isn't much room to pop in a bunch of Metroids but they probably will pull it off.

Of course there is. The pirates found out about Aether, and where there are pirates, there are metroids. Can't forget that there's still two entire SP frigates out there with metroids still on them.

What game, or where, was this mentioned?

I thought it said this somewhere in Prime or in its manual, but I'm not sure. I do remember seeing it somewhere though.

Pirate Logs. And we're veering towards spoiler territory, so be careful.

Good point. Besides, we're kind of off topic anyway.

With the Hunters, doesn't their scan say something about them being Adolescent metroids? I don't think they're a stage between Larva and Alpha, but if they're something else, what is it?

I guess this is yet ANOTHER thing that can't be fully explained from what we know. (Hmm... much like the whole item thing between games  :?)
Look, Retro will probaly have a hidden world filled with metroids.
Maybe the SP's brought em to see what would happen if they exposed them to the Dark World, and that Metroid just got back before Samus arrived to kick @$$. :D
That red glow on those Metroids look really strange. :?

I don't like the look of what's gonna happen to them. :(

For all I know, they may very well mutate into something different from the Hunter and Fission Metroids. Shocked
I.. think... that SR-388's atmosphere or whatever it was allowed the Metroids' "natural" cycle, that is Alpha -> Omega... But without that environment they still have to evolve somehow, so that's where hunters come from. Fission metroids are a direct result of Phazon exposure, apparently...

And, of course, a Metroid that's been exposed to those whatever-rays that pirates use grows a lot quicker, but doesn't evolve.

I think.
Metroids. Dangerous creatures. They can suck the life out of stuff, and exposing them to beta rays replicates them.
Apparently, exposing them to Phazon mutates them into Hunter, or sometimes Fission, Metroids as well.

As far as Metroid Prime...
It creates the Phazon, remember? It isn't made with Phazon, as it makes all the Phazon to begin with! Unless Phazon was made first, and a Metroid ultra-mutated with it, and the meteor then flung out by some malignant race, Metroid Prime(s) need to have some other source for their creation.

As far as the red Metroids in MP2E, I heard that there's also some normal greenish ones. I'd bet that the red ones have had some experiment performed on them, perhaps with Phazon.
