Ok, now after I finished the game for the first time and seeing the end screen, I saw the timer (and the time was baaaad :P ) I thought of something, that maybe someone of you might know more about?

When you play speedrun, on what situations does the timer work?
For instance, if I press pause (like in Metroid Prime) does the timer still count the time if the game is paused? Or does it stop, so I can just relax my fingers for 5 minutes? (Like in Zero Mission.)

Moments in which I don't know if the timer counts:

- Obviously the Pause Screen (viewing the map)
- Cut-scenes (the ones that you can also watch in the main menu)
- Cut-scenes (like when you see a Bounty Hunter or when an object is moved after you hit a switch)
- When you close the DS-screen
- When in your ship
- When you see the Alimbic Cluster screen
+ Info screen (after you scan something)

So, if anyone has info, I'd be happy to hear it Wink
(I've searched a bit on this forum but I haven't found anything, so if this is discussed before, I'm sorry.)

It's h ard to say. I'd say if it counted the time my DS was idle on pause, id have a cou ple more hours on my time. but I havent really tested

I dont think the movies (like flying to planets and boss enter / defeat / octolith aquire count. If MP is any indication, the ingame cutscenes (like when you press a switch or something) do count. But like I said, I ahvent really tested it..
Anywhere, everywhere
I have no clue how the timer works so these are just my guesses.

Pause Screen/map- no
"Good Graphic" movies- no
"Bad Graphic" movies- yes
Sleep mode- no
Ship- yes
Ambilic Cluster scene- yes

Once again, those are just guesses. Knowing my luck, I probably got them all wrong. Wink
i'd say yes to sleep mode cause i left my game on for 3 hours to record my giltch and it counted. Just like in the original prime the pause screen counts as well.
the pause screen doesn't count in the original prime.
Anywhere, everywhere
Uh... prime's doesn't count pause time but whatever.

EDIT: >.< simupost >.<
Kinda funny. A lot of people are speedrunning the game but there's nothing to find about when the timer pauses to save some time (ranging from minutes to seconds) Laughing

Anway, I think I'm going to test this in the weekend. I'll just go to Goria, beat it and remember the time I finish the game. Then, I'll go to Goria again, pause the game, leave the ds on the Pause Screen for (as example) 4 hours and after that, I continue the game and I'll see if the timer is 4 more hours than my previous time. I'm going to do this for the Pause screen, Alimbic Cluster Screen, DS sleep mode and when I'm on the ship.

I honestly don't know how you're supposed to know if the timer still counts in in-game movies or cutscenes like entering a boss chamber... :?

(All help is welcome on how to find this out btw. Wink )
I was wondering this myself. Also, do scans count? Like when you get the info from the scans, if they do, we'd have to hit "OK" as soon as possible. That's something else to look up.

You wait for Radix to officially time a run and find out that way. :P

Yup. I'll try this too. Sadly I only have Friday, Saturday and Sunday to test this, so after the weekend I should get some results.

And to Nate and Rekameohs: I thought that if you press pause in Metroid Prime the timer doesn't pause. I read this somewhere so it was always in my mind. And I always have done runs in prime without pauses, because I thought it would screw up my time. XD

Hmm, I think I will try one of them this night. I've just beat the game and roughly the end time was 2h:30m. Now I'm at Goria again (same game file, doh) and I only have to hit him 1 more time to kill him (I played just as fast as in my 2h:30m run). I paused the game, and tomorrow morning I'll finish the game, to see if Pause menu counts in total time.

EDIT: I left the game on the pause screen, then finished it. The end time said 2h:31m, so this means you can safely use the pause screen to take a rest; it doesn't count towards your total time. :D
Awesome, one timing question down.
awsome, i was a little curious if the pause screen added a time, but i never tried it out, that will help me in a ss, since i get lost in almost every room :p

Two now. I also figured out (same way as I did before) about the sleep mode: it also does NOT affect your time. So, only a few to go...

Edit: Make that three. I also found out that if you are in your ship the timer doesn't work. So it's safe to take a rest there too  :D

Now, I'm finding out about the scan-screens.
Awesome!

Maybe a SS isn't your thing.
How are you going to test the "good-graphic" cutscenes?

EDIT: Or any cutscenes, for that matter.
For the good graphics you could try once skipping the cutscene, and once letting it play. For the "bad" graphics cutscene, you couldn't really test it, but since you can't skip it, I don't think it really matters.
