First, I have not read through all of the Prime or Multiple Metroid section to see if this issue has been broached.  If it has, I apologize.

Where is Metroid Prime in the timeline of games?  I have some ideas, but I would like to hear other opinions first.
Thread title:
lol no way
It's officially between Metroid 1 and Metroid 2. Metroid Prime 2 comes before Metroid 2 as well, but, rather obviously, after Metroid Prime 1.

It's between M1 and M2, Nintendo/Retro has stated so, and there's plenty of supporting evidence.

Close enough. I belive ZM is supposed to completely overwrite M1, but whatever.

Actually ZM craps everything up, with that whole Gravity/no Gravity thing...

?
The Gravity suit, along with the Space Jump and Plasma beam, weren't found in the origianal Metroid, so we don't know which should be taken for canon.

Well... why would the additions of new items change anything? The items you have at the beginning of MP don't reflect either of the two games, so it's not like there's any sticking points?
Meh. All the items and upgrades and suits are really just gameplay stuff. Just like the whole energy-pop-up-from-nowhere deal and all that.

If ZM screws the M2 up because of the Gravity suit... well, wasn't M2 already screwy due to the lack of Varia, Ice Beam, Screw Attack, lots and lots of missiles and high-jump at the very beginning? And didn't Super Metroid screw that up?

Prime comes between M1 and M2 though, yes.

Actually, I was just talking about the fact that you just have Varia at the beginning of MP, not Gravity.  The other items I have no idea about though...  Demned plotholes...
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Items are above the plot.  Simple as that. :P
Eh. I was tired. I said the first thing that came into my mind. So sue me. Hey. Lawer dude. Go away. GO AWAY I SAID! *Runs away screaming*
lol no way
You spelled lawyer wrong.
Never mind the fact that you begin Prime with the Grapple Beam, which is never seen in any incarnation of Metroid.
... super?
lol no way
Any incarnation of Metroid 1.
That is correct :P
I think Prime takes place after Super Metroid.  Others have claimed that Retro and Nintendo support the above mentioned order.  I wasn't aware of that.  However, I think the game itself and the manual information suggest that it takes place after Super Metroid.  In the description of the space pirates in the manual, it says that after the first fall of their base on Zebes, the space pirates split into two factions.  One stayed and rebuilt Zebes, the other found Tallon IV.  This in conjunction with the space pirate data entry Fall of Zebes, leads me to think that Prime takes place after Super.  The space pirates would already know about the first fall of Zebes, so I think the entry refers to the one in Super Metroid.  For some reason, I think it makes more sense for Prime to come after Super and before Fusion in the timeline of the series.

I seem to remember this discussion being popular in the OLD old days, back when we were still MHQ, and Tim had fielded quite throughtly... but all his resources are gone now, and he doesn't come by very often anymore...
Weeell, Zebes is still there in the Pirates' interstellar holo-map. Zebes is basically pulverized at the end of Super Metroid, not updating the map seems like a silly thing to do. Also, wasn't Tallon IV found under M1's duration? I seem to recall something about the Phazon being found before the obliteration of Mother Brain... But it is true that frigate Orpheon was in orbit around Zebes by the time Samus did her first raid.

Oh, wait. The pirates split into THREE "factions". The one that started rebuilding the fortress on Zebes, and two frigates sent out in different directions, one of which ended up around Tallon IV.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Nintendo and Retro themselves said Metroid Prime takes place after Metroid but before Metroid II.  That's all the proof anyone should need.
