People who bought the 3DS before the price drop were given several free GBA virtual console titles today, Metroid Fusion is among them.

Just a quick play, I'm not far in, but based on the lack of the Stereo Save, so far this appears to be the NA version in its original state. No apparent changes at the moment. Sadly, GBA games cannot be suspended (but Fusion's sleep mode still works). Multiplayer or any functions requireing a link or GCN cable are not available. This is also further reinforced by the lack of easy and hard mode from the JP version.
Thread title:
What's stereo save?
if you set it to stereo, it'll stay that way
resets to mono on the na version
I just remember headphones vs no headphones.  Is that it?
Im assuming headphones is stereo then.
I didn't know that it was stereo/mono.  I thought it was some preset equalizer setting.  doh!

the GBAs had just one speaker, so it makes sense that headphones = stereo.
I just never thought about it before because I don't think I ever played it on a GBA.

about the only thing left to check is if the alternate secret message method is fixed or not (I doubt it)
Why would it be?

the games are straight rom dumps, just like VC releases.

nothing is changed on them, unless it is something controversial like the moon symbol in OoT.

Not always true, some Virtual Console games have been modified- in some cases it's legal issues, or Nintendo Censorship, or something else. Some games also have had more than one version sold (though not marked differently) and the only way to know which one you're getting is to play it.

There's been several different versions of metroid prime. Prime in trilogy is definitely not just a "rom dump-" it has changes from various different versions combined.

uhh, that was precisely what i said. does "controversial" have a different meaning that isn't legal issues or censorship?

and last i heard, trilogy isn't a Virtual console (VC) release.

No, but it's an example of old games getting changed in a re-release (not a remake) of what is supposed to be the exact same game.

Whenever multiple game versions exist, it's a fair question to ask which one is going to be used for the VC release.

For Zelda Links Awakening, they uesd the GBC version (and I heard there were some modifications), instead of the original GB version. For Donkey Kong on Game Boy, they could concieveably have used the super game boy colors, instead of black and white (and actually, there is a bit more difference than just the use of more than 4 colors).

Zelda II had some changes in various releases- though the one offered on 3DS is 100% the original NA release version.

No, it's not. They added motion controls.

The game world, enemies, mechanics, engine, etc are all pixel for pixel the same, except for the code to support the wii controls. It's not a remake, it's a re-release.

....

It's all beside the point. I was merely pointing out this release, and trying to determine what version was used and/or if any changes were made, because it's completely possible.

What moon symbol controversy in OoT?

The gerudo symbol on the mirror shield used to be islamic looking, and some dune coons complained about it so they changed it to the gerudo symbol.  Also, the original fire temple music used to have chanting in the background that was in arabic, which translated to "allah is great" and they complained about that, too.  They fucking complain about everything, and if you don't give a shit then they blow you up.  I fucking hate them.
red chamber dream
yeah, the one where they neutered the game to be politically correct because the japanese have no balls

I knew of the music change, not the shield.

And I'm gonna read that now. Looks interesting.

the shield was changed only in the Gc and Wii releases. the N64 versions all had the crescent moon.

also, some people determined that the game edits happened before the game was out because all the OoT versions have a compile date before the actual release (this is shown in the debug menu). so the reason these things were changed is something different and not muslims complaining (they could have complained either way since the first run had the original music).

that's a PORT, which is different than emulation(VC releases), a remake (stuff like MZM compared to NES Metroid) or running a rom using the original processors (the 3DS has the GBA processor within it so it can run the ambassador games perfectly. same with the Wii when it is in GC mode)
not knowing the difference between these leads to confusion.
I like turtles.
Playing through this again, it becomes painfully clear how much it needed a "skip cutscene" feature.
