Woo, first post.  Anyway, I'm Joe, aka wickedfour on IRC.  You might be wondering, "who the crap is this n00b?!?!".  Well, this may be my first forum post, but I've been working with Nate for quite a while on some extra cool site-related spiffiness(TM) that I think everyone here will enjoy...

Without further procrastination, I am pleased to announce that Operation Metamorphosis is complete and operational!  Just was is it, you ask?  Operation Metamorphosis is our code name for a smattering of new M2k2 web site designs to accompany the all too well-known red and black design that we're all familiar with.  You'll be able to browse Metroid 2002 in one of following ultra-spiffy design layouts:
    *Baby Sheegoth*Fusion Suit*Kraid*Metroids*Phazon Suit*Ridley*Varia Suit*Warrior Ing

Your preference will be saved with a cookie, and of course, you're still free to use the original layout if that's your thing.

Most of these are derived from Rachel's sweet desktops that you've already seen, but I've also designed an all new style, Warrior Ing, that I think everyone will really like.  Make sure you check out each design before you play favorites!  Also worth noting - a few more styles are on the way, among those being Meta Ridley, a darker version of the Metroids style, the Gravity Suit from Prime, and Suitless Samus from Fusion.  Chances are that we'll have your favorite Metroid character covered, but if you'd like to see one that isn't already available or on the way, feel free to request it in this thread.  No guarantees, but I'll see what I can do.

Unfortunately, all this goodness does come with a "price", one that both Nate and I feel was "worth" it to deliver these styles.  In order to use the new styles and, for that matter, the style switcher menu, you must use either a Mozilla-based browser, such as Firefox, available for many OSs, of course including Windows, or Safari on Mac OS X.  (Read: You will not be able to use the styles with any vintage of Internet Explorer, including IE 6.)  Why, you ask?  Well, these styles are built with CSS, which makes it ridiculously easy to switch the entire design of Metroid 2002 without touching any of the XHTML code.  As a few people might know, Internet Explorer's CSS support is just plain horrible.  Also, I am a Mac user, and as such I do not have access to a PC with IE 6, meaning that I cannot possibly figure out why IE 6 butchers these design layouts.  Nate and I figured that it simply wasn't worth the time to try and make the styles work in IE 6, so I apologize in advance.  However, if you do still use IE 6, I would heavily encourage you to switch to Firefox; it's simply great.  (Note: The site's default style still displays correctly in IE 6.)

Now that that's aside, I would love for you to post your comments on any of the styles in this thread, as well as any display issues you may come across.  This first day could have a few, so please bear with Nate and myself as we address any issues that may come up.

So how do we try them out?
Try going to any of the sections and I think you'll notice a slight difference.

Like the Metroid Prime 1 page and stuff?
soaking through
Nate, you broke the homepage.  What happened to having the navigation bar at the top?
no more. found it unnecessary ... can definitely bring it back if you think it aids navigation.
soaking through
Well, it did for me, but don't do it just on my account.  Maybe make a poll or something?
k, will do in a bit. any other comments/constructive criticism? i think we've just about gotten all of the major kinks worked out now.

For a second there I thought Nate had STDs. Go not reading properly :?.

Some of the styles are really sweet. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Fusion suit looks awesome.
Too many fangirls to count
Can you do that for the forum?
yes.

a more appropriate question would be: WILL we do it for the forum. ;P

and the answer: that remains to be seen.

I went to the title page and all the pages are now just white backgrounds.

Where's the tutorial?
hmm ... either your cookie is corrupt or you just need to hit refresh a few times.
I had the white background before I chose one.  After that, it worked for every other time I tested it.  I'm using Firefox v.8 and WinME (don't laugh, it's really not THAT bad).

Also, I just tested in IE (which isn't updated, since I never use it) and the box to change it didn't even appear.  I cleared cache and it still didn't have a box in any of the pages.  It's either because I have weird settings in IE or since I haven't updated IE in a while.  IE is version 6.0.2600.0000, if that helps.
Nice extra you added to the site, though I had the same "white background" problem as Red Scarlet. By the way, it's evil to put the eye blinding Ridley theme right after the dark Phazon Suit theme  :? .

Yeah, I get that too.  Try picking the style again, going back to the index page, and going to section again.  I haven't gotten the white background problem since, but I'll try to figure it out with Nate later.

See my first post above.  The style switcher menu will not display in IE because the styles will get horrendously messed up in it.  (Therefore, it's disabled  :P )
Whoops.  I guess I was in too much of a hurry to test it out that I didn't finish reading the first post.

Nice job on the themes.  I eagerly await the new ones coming.
joe, check out http://www.metroid2002.com/techniques_l_jump.php with the kraid theme in safari. do you see something wrong with the name of the technique?
edit: i changed stylesheets.txt so that it calls _default.css just "stylesheet" (not "alternate stylesheet") so that people without cookies or null cookies don't get all white (just persistent.css) for their style (they get the default now).

Well, some complains and comments on the styles here. :P

1. The background image for the Kraid style doesn't tile correctly. If you want, send me the image and I'll make it tile seamlessly.

2. The Fusion Suit style doesn't display at all in my Firefox 1.0. White background, no imagery.

3. The Ridley style is way too painful on the eyes, tone the brightness of it all down a bit. >.<

4. The Warrior Ing style text color blends too easily with the background, seeing as it doesn't have a table or overlapping layer of a different color to prevent this blending, thus making it hard to read.

That's all for now, I'll keep checking if I find anything else. :)
ah, good to see you here, d.zero. i'm sure joe will take those to heart. but, about the ridley style ... i like it that way. :(
直死の魔眼使い
...Fine, but if someone goes blind because of it and sues you, don't say I didn't tell you so. :P

About the others... Well, was that meant as a sarcastic comment? I can't tell because today I'm especially slow; besides, I just meant to help... Crying or Very sad
no, not sarcastic. i take this very seriously. joe has already seen your post, but he had too much homework to work on it yesterday. hopefully soon he will have time.
I kinda like the Fusion one myself (Even though Fusion Suit Samus is NOT anywhere near my favorite suit: Go figure  :?)
Yes, I feel that Phazon > Varia >>>>>>>>>>>>> Fusion in the game but I'm sticking to Fusion Suit on the site :P.

Can you make the normal, old style an option? I kinda prefer that.
