Figured I'd do this and see what everyone thinks of the first true Mega Man game in 3D (no, I don't count Legends cause... well, it's such a radical departure from the main series, despite the fact that it's linked to the official timeline...anyway.)
For me, I shared that attitude a while back of "what the hell? Mega Man in 3D?" the very same as I did when I heard of Metroid Prime. But like MP, I soon changed my mind, deciding that this evolutionw ould be good for the series. And it appears I'm going to be proven right.
A quick rundown on what I know so far, from official sources, etc.
New character named Axl - fights sort of like X, but with a pistol gun. He also can destroy Reploids with a Copy Shot, and collect DNA Soul to briefly mimic that form. Sweetness.
Main plot of the game revolves around the young Axl being discovered by Zero, abandoned. Seems he ran away from this vigilante "Red Alert Syndicate" or, as Nytetrayn (from MMN) calls it, the "Red Alert Sigma-cate". And RAS is after him, as well. Zero interferes, claiming asylum for the young Reploid. With the Maverick Hunters and RAS at each other's throats for custody of the Reploid (anyone remember that Elian Gonzalez case? Lol...), Zero decides it's time for X to come back and assist with the investigation. But before he can, RAS launches an all-out attack with, yes, you guessed it, eight Reploids that rampage the cities.
Zero decides its high time for X to return now (by the way, the storyline starts you off with only Zero and Axl, since X has "retired from active duty" <-- remember, the old chap hates fighting, and he believes he's not helping anyway by constantly blowing stuff up). You in actuality have to rescue 65 Reploids before unlocking X as a playable character, but then, you battle through, iirc, 2 intro stages, 8 main stages, and four fortress areas before battling Red, who, guess what? Was under the influence of the all-too-resurrected Sigma and his malevolent Virus. So yeah, you fight Baldy again, and all is well. Sort of.
Anyway, the game is somewhat co-op. You take 2 characters into every stage, and can switch at will between them. The Armor system goes back to the single armor-get parts as you acquire them method (Yesssss!), and there's tons of other upgrades scattered about.
The game comes out tomorrow, so if you like Mega Man or liked how Metroid made the transition to 3D (or FPA, actually), try picking this title up.
