I was playing Zero Mission this morning.  I always do 100% runs on this game, and for some reason I missed an item this time.  Rather than go back and get the missed item, I went to the mecha ridley fight.  The fight lasted a mere fraction of what it usually does.  I thought it was just me thinking it was different somehow, but it was bugging me so I did some reading online and found out something on gamefaqs that I never knew before.

I never realized that if you go into the mecha-ridley fight with 100% items collected that mecha ridley is 3 times harder than with less than 100%.  Here's an excerpt from the walkthrough by TheDuffMan:

"--- [100% Final Boss] ---

Requirements:  100% item completion
Found under:  Gameplay
Description:  This actually makes the game harder for you, whether you like
it or not.  If you have 100% completion in any mode, the final
boss, Mecha Ridley, is made 3x harder for you.  For example:
on normal, it takes 25 missiles to kill him (or 5 supers).
With 100%, it'll take 75 missiles to take him down.  Also, the
damage is increased by 50%.  This means that a normal swipe of
the claw that takes off 1 tank, will now take off 1 and a
              half."

Sorry if this is old news, I'm just excited about the fact that after all these years I actually learned something NEW about this game.

Uh, some of that information is clearly false. Iron Ted takes (if I remember correctly) 29 missiles to defeat normally. I just assumed his health doubled, so that info is probably inaccurate, too. As for him being harder, he's only harder than he is at 99%, but he's much easier than he is at 9%.

One thing he's probably right about though is that you do take 50% more damage. I thought it had been double, but I could be mistaken too, sometimes.

This is very old thing. We everybody here know this.

I'm sure not 'we everybody here know this'.  Some people here haven't even beaten the game.  I ended my post with 'Sorry if this is old news' hoping to avoid lame comments from metroid ZM masters, but i guess it didn't work.
Jagger ftw
I've beat the game many times... and This is the first time I heard of such thing..

Is this true?

apparently the multiples of how much harder he is aren't totally accurate, but yes it's true.
Jagger ftw
is there also something like this on parasite queen? because it always cost me 15 missile (on normal)...

I think she takes more damage in the mouth or something, doesn't she?

But no, she's not harder if you have 100% I don't think.

Yeah 11 missiles in mouth kill her.
How can you have 100% at parasite queen?  She's at the beginning of the game....

Add "what's the deal with pipe boots" to my list of IRC questions.

Iron Ted's glass takes 10 missiles
Iron Ted takes 18 missiles
100% Iron Ted's glass takes 30 missiles
100% Iron Ted takes 54 missiles

Not sure if I've run across any others (since I'm not about to search through the rest of my too-many-typos-for-my-tastes posts), but Monsieur (*shrugs*) P.J brought some perspective with the above (a clipping of a larger missle-count-to-death list).
Jagger ftw
I mean, in other speed runs I see, they only need less than 10 or around 10 missile to kill it, but for me, its always max or more...
Yeah I noticed that too. I did a 100% run and a 15% percent run, and the 15% percent only took 6 super missiles to kill him, while I quickly lost track of how many it took on the 100%.
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
He is right actually. Iron Ted starts off with 200 health, then when you've done the 200 damage, the glass breaks and his health goes up to 360. Both values are tripled when you have 100%.

And yes, he does do 1.5 times more damage to Samus with 100%. 100 damage to Samus becomes 150
OH ****!!!!
Since you have 100% of all items, wouldn't the fight just last longer instead of being harder? Because you have more energy tanks and missles so it should be an even match shouldn't it?
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
"Even match"? You can still kill him pretty quickly, it just takes another slash before he can completely be defeated. In fact, the 100% fight is loads shorter than it is in 9%. The only thing really that makes him harder is that he actually has (one) chance to use more attacks such as the laser.

Well, I still suck at not getting hit (though I am/had been getting a bit better at aiming/timing, though the adrenaline/pressure/whatever would likely screw that up anyway), so he can still pwn me.  Might be thinking of my 15% play, though...

BAH!  I need to find my game pak!
Its only -99% and 100% the difference? or he has many setups depending the % you have by the end?

Also, who's iron ted D:?
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
Mecha-Ridley IS Iron Ted.

Also, I've never gotten negative 99% before so I can't say for sure, but I believe its difficulty only changes for 100%.
sarcasm aside, i meant 99% or under >_>

jagger, are you moving my topics inside relevant topics? its freaky and I'm like "wtf happened to my topic" xd

is there any kind of special rules about posting in this forum D:?

Yeah it's preferred that you look through older threads before making fresh ones. It keeps the forum tidier so there aren't a bunch of the same thread sitting around.

I can ensure this.
99% is same as any-% so Mecha Ridley take only 6-SM to beat. Only after pick up 100% items boss are harder. Anyway
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
i found out about this the hard way when i did my first 100% playthrough.
i was puzzled and though i was sucking more than usual but after some fights i noticed he had more health. for hard 100% it was even worse since at the time my evasion skills were nonexistant and he killed me before i could kill him.

after that, it became average when i got better at running the game.

btw, i remembered i still don't have the 15% hard ending...
