very hard choice, but i have to pick metroid ii over zero mission and the original. at least zero mission gives you a clock; metroid ii gives you an inaccurate clock, which imo is worse than none at all.
I gotta say that I really don't like fusion, cause it jumped from the original script of defeating the Space Pirates and Metroids, to taking care of a space station and its problems with the X. Sure, the X made things a little different, but I lost interest in the storyline right after the intro. See, most games have relatively decent storylines (enough to keep you interested), but make it a challenge to learn more about the story. Metroid Fusion was basically a quest-filled game where you run around to get this ability/weapon or defeat this creature... Another thing that gets me is the lack of a real challenge in getting through the game. I wondered about where I had to go in Metroid II and Super Metroid, and I could never remember where the High Jump Boots were in Metroid II. Fusion tells you where to go and what to get. Sure, some bosses were difficult, but it was more fun and challenging for me to try to figure out what I could do with my new ability and where I could go with it. Sorry, but I can't stand Fusion, and it disappointed me with a real challenge. BTW, WHY MUST RIDLEY BE IN EVERY METROID GAME (minus Metroid II) ?!?

Having to figure out a where to go with what ability is not really a challenge; most of the time it's either a matter of time, in which case it's boring, or it's a simple matter of logic, which is hardly a challenge. Beating Nightmare, Yakuza, Nettori, and Ridley on a 1% run is a challenge; the shinespark trick is a challenge; figuring out what the fuck to do with X item to advance is not a challenge.
