Erm. Just want to throw this out: http://www.DS-Insider.com is like the best DS site on the internet... as far as I know. They update damn near daily, so I just set it to my homepage :p.
That's a bit of a harsh generalisation. If it sucks now, when didn't it suck?
Depends on the individual. For me, it started going downhill when the N64 and PSX came out. It sucked when the Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube came out. I've gotten/asked for more old games/remade old games in the last 6 years than new games in a ratio of something like 70+ - less than 10.
Lucid: Well, on the bright side, at least you don't hear as much about PS2's dying left and right like the PS1.
Quote from Lynk Former:
The problem is that we're all fanboys/girls of Nintendo here and we all think that Nintendo is god (so to speak lol)...
No, I'm not. I fell out with Nintendo with the N64 and GBA. Old Nintendo (which is actually the system, and not much of Nintendo's actual games when it comes to me) > > > > > > Nintendo after 1996.
What is this Nintendo "Revolution" being talked about?
Quote from Prime Hunter:
Like I said, it all depends on what games are released for each console, and if I felt like paying for an entire console for a handful of games (Yeah, right )
There's nothing wrong with that at all, as long as the games were enjoyable. I paid $230 for my Wonderswan Color to play FF1 and 2 portably, and I don't look back on that as a bad purchase even today (FF1 on FF1+2 Advance is pretty craptacular).
I paid $350 for my Japanese PS2 so I could get FF10 International, FF12, Dragon Quest 5, and Dragon Quest 8. I'm happy with it.
Quote from Syl:
Reggie just flat out said in public "The PSP has no battery life, what the hell can you do with only 2 hours of playtime? The DS is going to at leat equal or mirror the SP on our end"
Does that not mean that the DS might only have 2 hours of playtime? Why is no one moaning about that for the DS, and only the PSP? Oh..the SP not PSP. Oops.
Quote from Yoshi348:
Um... is backwards-compatibility really THAT important? It's great, but it's not the golden nectar of the gods... the PS2 has done fine even though they were retarded and only used two controller ports again...
Well, it is cool to play my JP PS1 games with faster loading. :o
AJ: PM me when they give a Japanese release date for FF3 please. :o :o :o :o
When I saw SP I assumed he was referring to GBA SP.
You can chain the multi-switch. Why would would it be a problem.
Backwards compatibility isn't such a big deal because unless they continue to support the Cube, who cares. So you have to switch the cables, how much energy can that possibly take
That's a bit of a harsh generalisation. If it sucks now, when didn't it suck?
It sucks now because it's too entrenched in profit and competition. I liked it when it was less about how cool the game was aesthetically, and more about how kickass it played. The casual gamer ruined gaming.

Hmm, this kind of thinking makes me sick. I seriously doubt that I stick with these boards long, which I'm sure nobody cares, but I hate message boards that are filled with people that think games nowadays suck and everything old was classic. I can't believe how much hate Metroid Prime and all the new Metroid games get, or new games by Nintendo in general.
i think it's very easy for young, inexperienced people to become jaded when they see ten games that suck, as opposed to older people seeing ten games that suck and thinking "wow, bad streak, huh," instead of "the sky is falling!" like the younger people think.
for example, i would really feel uneasy about the future of the metroid series were it not for metroid prime. the way you group the gamecube game and the game boy advance games in your post shows that you are talking to people who don't have much perspective, and so i beg you to reconsider your position.
even if all the current metroid games did suck, the series's time would come around again, imo ...
Huh... that seems to run contrary to your statements in the "Metroid 3" thread... with language like "They'll never have a team that could do it again"... now I'm REALLY confused. :?
Oh, and that-guy-I-can't-remeber-who-started-this-line-of-thought, believe me, if this board was filled with the kind of negativity you describe, I would NOT be here.

okay, as a bit of damage control:
Quote from I:
the inability to procure a similar staff in 2001 compared to what they got in 1993.
i never said it would necessarily suck, i just said it would probably suck. it could transpire that the porting team would randomly be the most respectful people in the world and would basically pull a retro in perhaps even improving the original in the port. but yeah, judging by fusion and zm ... that is not a likely assumption to be making at this point.

Ya know, i was pretty damn sure we owned that site... odd, very odd.

I never said games suck universally nowadays. I have several Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox games I love to death. I love Metroid Prime just as much as Super Metroid. In comparison, however, I'd definately say that the ratio of bad games to good games was much better way back when, wouldn't you agree?

not at all. there was a fuckload of shit for the SNES as well, its just not in your face at the gamestore so you can much easier ignore that they existed. The bad games got lost behind the times, go look at snes game lists on gamefaqs or something, theres a hell of a lot of stinkers you've never played.
Systems are remembered for the good, or for the occassional REALLY bad game. (Shaq-fu, superman 64)
The major difference here is that in today's age, there's not only the old style of bad games (low budget crapfests) and the commercial tie-in games(which used to come out AFTER the movie), but high-budget "cool" fests that actually have advertising power (think DoA Extreme Beach Volleyball, et al). And cool can sell.
That would only work if there was no regions right? Is PAL-NTSC an issue or is that part of the region thing, or have I completely missed something. That DS-Insider link earlier was putting the region thing as an unknown.
So why is it that the DS is shipping to different locations for different dates, if it's all the same, why not distribute everywhere for christmas? Instead of the very informative "Q1 2005" for Australia.
does anyone have any guesses? maybe it's taking them that long to work out the power adapter situation? i guess i forgot to mention that; you may need to buy a power convertor so you can plug the thing in and charge it, but that probably shouldn't cost more than a few bucks.
This sounds like a lot of effort for a month or two of waiting, I don't know if I'll bother importing, MP2 should hold me over until the Australian DS release, and seeing it's just after christmas and my birthday I should have plenty of spare cash.
yeah, that's the nice thing about this hella concentrated release schedule imo. too bad i'll look like a dope if i take advantage of it and wait to get one or the other. :P

Its simply a manufacturing process, they just quite simply can't make enough of them to ship everywhere at once. They aim to please the largest markets first.
Also, europe has much higher standards as to what languages the games have to be in, so the devolopers have to take more time localizing a european game. Also, the devolopers want to finish the american game first, as its the largest market and they'll get enough money back from the game to help localize for the european market.
Basically, America is the largest market in the world right now, the day after thanksgiving is the absolutely largest shopping spree on the planet, and they want the DS out for that, so that it will get spread around faster.
However, a word of advice: All of nintendo's hand helds systems have been completely region free.
