Before I start, may I explain what I mean by that. That is, get the Ice Beam at the latest possible point. It's "late", rather than "no", because you need to freeze the Metroids in Tourian to kill them, right? This may seem pointless, and it may be, because the current path is probably faster, but still, it might be fun to try.
Start your game, and go about collecting the first three items, get the long and charge beams if you wish. Once you get the bombs, go get the Varia Suit. (http://www.metroid2002.com/0/early_items_varia.php) You'll find out why eventually.
Go to Norfair and collect the Power Grip. Go back to the save room next to the elevator. Go back into to the elevator room and get a view of both of the rippers. If they are in perfect sync, go into another room and re-enter until they are out of sync.
This is tricky, and it takes some practice. You're going to wall jump up the mini-shaft, the one you have to freeze the rippers to get up. Once the bottom one goes in the opposite direction of the wall you're going to jump off of, somersault into the wall and start the jump. I can't really give directions from this point, just single wall jump up until you grasp the ledge. It's hard, but it's possible. If you get close to death, just let them kill you and continue, it's the fastest way to get your health back. Just keep trying.
Once you're up, go to Kraid, and continue like normal. Get the Hi-Jump (or not, your choice. Have fun fighting Imago). Go back to Brinstar (you're supposedly going to get the Varia, but we already got that) and get the early Super Missile tank there (http://www.metroid2002.com/0/early_super_brinstar_1.php). Get the Screw Attack ASAP (http://www.metroid2002.com/0/early_items_screw_attack.php).
Proceed to the Wave Beam. It looks icy at first, doesn't it? It's not. Charge it and you'll actually see it's purple. Just a little oddity, seeing what the wave beam looks like without ice. Shame you can't see the Plasma without ice. That was my original motivation for this run. :P
Get to Imago's cocoon. Keep in mind this battle is a bitch without being able to freeze the ripper, but then again, you have super missiles. Wall jump up until you're high enough. Go through Ridley and beat him, etc. In the room next to him, you can't freeze the little flying bugs that come from the pipe infinitely, so Infinite Bomb Jump up to the platform with the unknown item block. Shouldn't be a problem.
Once you're back up at Norfair, go to the room behind the two heads that fall in the elevator room and go past the broken Chozo statue. When you see the morph ball speed-thingy, screw attack through the wall and use it. Get to the and use the morph ball speed thing in the shaft. When you stop, you'll be pretty close to the door where the room before the Ice Beam is. Go and get it. Note you have Supers, and open the door that is probably supposed to lock but they put in a SM door (maybe because they intended this? It would explain the Wave Beam's look).
Finish the game like normal. Like I said, this probably takes longer, but it's a fun thing to try, and it's cool to see the non-ice wave beam. To add some more excitement, you should try skipping as many things as you can. Sorry that this is so long and also sorry if this has been posted before (likely).
