I researched on that, and arrived to this conclusion...

-The Screw Attack deals 1/4 to 3/4 life bar damage per hit.

-It seems to work only in Light/Dark heart.

-Changing Emperor Ing's heart from red to dark/light is possible with the screw attack. He must crouch down to allow you to do so though (he's too tall).

-It sounds like you can only damage him while he's in the air (jumping). He jumps sometimes to squish you and create shockwaves. You must screw attack him as he soars over you. That's the only way I could damage him with the Screw Attack.

You can bounce very high when you screw attack him as he swings his claws. High enough to reach the door. Though the door is locked.

Actually, you can hit it at any heart and there's no minimum damage (1/4): you can do less than that. I experienced a little bit more and found out that.

Nice find with the Screw Attack.  I tried it today with decent success.  I found it at times difficult to actually hit it since it's either the legs get in the way or you don't have enough height.

One thing I noticed is sometimes you're thrown up REALLY high in the sky if your screw attack is blocked.  I once got knocked OUT of the room and eventually landed back on the ground lol.

That probably explains why when doing some moonjump testing in the room, I found out that there is an invisible wall blocking you from entering the "alcove" by the door during form 3, but the invisible wall is not there during form 1(which made for a funny fight when I moonjumped up there).

Since you can't get up there by any "normal" means, they must have put the wall over the alcove in case you got knocked up there, so you couldn't shoot from a safe height.

You can actually land on an edge when you bounce high. You can shoot it from there. But safely, I don't know, because I fell down  :x !
