When you play Super Metroid, You had the option to go to the item inventory screen and switch weapons on and off. I wonder why nintendo no longer enables you to do that  kind of setting on the new Metroid games. It would be a challenge to try and get through areas, with certain weapons.
Thread title:
I've found the option not to turn some powerups off to be a nuisance.  I think there was this one missile expansion in Norfair where you have to freeze a geega with the ice beam to use as a platform.  It turned into a pain in the ass since every time I tried to get on the "geega platform", I'd screw attack the damn thing.  I messed around a little bit until I could straight-up jump to it and then spin jump to the expansion.

Another thing I'd like to turn off is the power grip.  Sometimes, if I'm trying to get through an area quickly I'll have to do a drop-down about-face from one platform to another and with the power grip, when I drop down and turn, I grab onto the ledge instead of just falling to the lower platform.

Also, the ice beam, it can be a curse as much as it is a handy weapon.  At certain times, I want an enemy to just die instead of going into deep freeze.

Though these are hardly significant problems, I still think they should have enabled the option. It makes the game a little more strategic (and can sometimes make things easier).
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
Faust, shoot your gun to get out of the Screw Attack.
Works like a charm.
